I have been a healthcare administrator for over 20+ years. Last year I lost my job as I was told to do something illegal. I was asked to forge doctor%u2019s names. I refused - and consequently I was given the choice, Sign - Or get out! I''ve been unemployed ever since. I left with only my integrity, but that doesn''t pay the bills. Now, I would be happy to send you copies of all the jobs I have applied for since last February. but I don''t think you''d have enough space.
I''ve lost everything, 2 cars, my residence. I''m now living in another state with family, where hopefully I can get another start. (Oh, by the way, this CEO that wanted me to forge doctors names. I have tapes from meetings stating how to get rid of employees, referencing these employees as....the weird IT person, some very discriminatory comments towards, blacks, Jews. And the speaker on these tapes references 60 Minutes, quite often - As to how to get rid of these people and Not end up on 60 minutes)
Andy-I respect, as I do my Father (Who''s in a rest home)that you''re from another world and with him I usually just walk away. But you hit a nerve this time and I can''t let it go. Please, if you''re going to stay at your job - do your homework! Your comments were so offensive and so out of line and so wrong.
I enjoy listening to your commentary every week and even have an annoying habit of hearing your voice when reading about fascinating albeit useless information.
However,
I was horrified when I saw this commentary. I was watching on Monday morning while getting for my first day of work. I have to get up at 2:00am to get ready and walk 2 hours to make my 5:30 shift.
I had been looking for work for 9 months before I got this job. I have been turned down for every position that is available (or not available as the case may be).
If you call any business in a 100 mile radius of my house, they probably have some form of my name, number and job experience written on something in their files.
And when I say every business, I mean it. Even now, I work in a commercial kitchen, 9 hours a day, 5 days a week at minimum wage.
I''m sorry that you get to live in the same place, with a steady job, and get to ramble about insanity every week. It just makes you that out of touch with the rest of the world.
I work one of the crappiest jobs in America (that you can do in the winter months). And I will continue to do this because unlike you believe, I am not a lazy American and I need to eat, and have a place to live.
So next time you are going to paint the American UnEmployed as too-good to work a menial job ... go to your local homeless shelter ...
You will learn alot ... I garuntee it.
I had a job working for nineteen years. I was pretty good at it. I was laid off this year, not because the local economy was bad but because the economy in New York was in trouble. At the end of March around 30 of us were shown the door with very little consideration for the quality of work done or the devastation it caused any of the families. I have diligently searched for a job ever since and not yet scored an interview. Not with anyone. This lay off was not isolated to just one location or division. In all about 1,000 lost their livelihoods. About a month later the CEO landed a $41 million deal. Enough to have kept everyone employed through whatever crisis the company was facing. Hearing you talk about how we unemployed are lazy was hurtful and callous. My former company is where you draw your paycheck. I always used to think you were better informed about how the world works. I was wrong about that the same way I was wrong about the intelligence of those who run CBS.
An apoligy is due. And I think you should go out of your comfortable office and do some REAL investigative reporting on what we the public are going through at this time. Foreclosures and the families are real and the apple should be stuffed in your mouth.
You%u2019ve done one too many stories by implying that all unemployed workers are not looking for a new job and lazy.
I bet there must be one unemployed TV reporter that could do your job. Why not fire yourself to find out.
Where did you buy that $.35 apple? You seemed to think that was especially expensive because you bought it in New York. Here is a news bulletin for you. Apples cost about $1.00 at the grocery store in most parts of the county. I have no idea what they cost in New York.

Time for you to get out of your office and take a road trip (to reality) across the US!
