As One Of Vazquez's Younger Cousin It Hurts Me To See This But Honestly People Need To Know What Soldiers Like My Cousin May He Rest In Peace Are Going Thru. I Miss Him Dearly And I Agree Awareness Needs To Increase To Get All Those Mothers,Fathers, Brothers, Sister, Daughters, Sons, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, Grandson, Granddaughters,Uncles, Aunts,etc.. Out Of The Middle East. Too Many Soldiers Have Died For What Cause & Purpose. All This Leaves Behind Is Emotions Unexplainable to Anyone. Although We Are Proud Of All His Awards & Medals None Of That Will Ever Bring Him Back. I Miss Him Dearly Happy 25th Birthday Jason(May17th) I Will See You In Heaven

On this very video, this piece with Lara, my youngest brother climbs a mountain searching for a weapons cache and then jumps up in a cornfield to aid a wounded soldier. He''s the medic in this unit and from the sound of things he does this climbing and patching every day. It''s one thing to know the soldiers are in Camp Wilderness and are fighting, but it''s a completely different thing to see it happening. To see him, to hear his voice with a gun fire backdrop and to watch him walk a known mine road. I watched this with my heart in my throat. God be with all our soldiers, whether you agree with why they''re there or not...fact is, they''re already there. Let''s support them all we can until they come home, and be thankfull when they do.

My son was part of the "Surge" in Iraq...Fantastic. Now can we have a "Surge" in the ''Stan ??? A friend of mine is a retired Navy Chief whose son has just spent 15 months there. BTW: Nick Ranstad has the Army record for the longest sniper shot...1.3 miles..1 shot 1 kill.

Godspeed to these soldiers !!!

Even though they are doggies ;-)

My son KIA 21 June 2006, Afghanistan. He also served one year in Iraq prior. He believed in the Afghanistan mission but was frustrated with the limited numbers of our troops on the ground in brutal conditions. Afghanistan is not a "sandpile". It''s mountain terrian that goes on forever. Areas our troops are become deep in snow and bitter cold during the winter. The complications created in an environment of "tribal" villages, living in almost biblical conditons are beyond imagination for us who have not been there. We have but heard only second hand from our loved ones serving. Few Americans apply themselves to researching the conditions and war in Afghanistan. I pray to God that before anyone elses loved ones life is lost our military gets and provides our troops what they need to be safe on the ground. "It''s not about the war, it''s about standing behind the troops who stand in front of us." When our military is sent somewhere they need to be sent in adequate numbers with the tools required to protect their lives while they do the job. The American public at large needs educated on Afghanistan. My son demanded respect for his "Commander in Chief". We all are due a lesson in what it means to give respect to our Leader so he can do the job to protect our Troops. I think 60 Minutes did a very respectable job with this piece. I have much admiration for the soldiers and upper command willing to be honest in telling their "story". God Bless them all.

What''s with the stupid right wing comment? Does this signal that you''ve finally decided to stop watching Faux News and think for yourself or are you just proud of showing everyone how ignorant you are?

im not sure why people cant remember why we fight in Afghanistan, I guess all the people that died in the world trade center shouldnt be fought for i wonder what would of happened if people would of decided to pull out of asia and europe during ww2 because the people that died in pearl harbor where not worth the money the government paid to avenge there deaths. I feel the Afghanistan is worth fighting for Al-Qaeda did this to themselves this is a just conflict.

i really wonder why army keeps fighting there in this land and what the purpose, i advise our government to pull them back and save money, there are many fields we can spend billions on health, education elc. instead of waiting long hours in ER for help and die at the end its worth to care about our lives Mr.Bush

Kudos to 60 Minutes, Lara and the crew for taking the risks to bring this report to American TV. Amazing footage from the front-lines. Be safe and keep up the good work.

I am thankful to the producer, the camera man and to Lara Logan for going into that mess over there to show the world what my husband and the rest of those amazing soldiers over there are doing and the struggles they are facing. It is their reality - and I am grateful they were able to portray it to the rest of the world. Of course it is scary for us to see, but we know what goes on there each day and our pride should overshadow our fear. I think those guys deserve every bit of glory, attention and hopefully assistance they receive from this piece! I will never complain about seeing a few dead bodies on tv if it helps raise awareness and possibly leads to them being supplied with the resources they need. And it sure was nice to see my husband on there after 7 long months - even if they were getting shot at...

Thanks for taking the time to cover Afghanistan. Iraq receives so much more attention. Our soldiers need more support and better resources. Please continue to cover this story.

Part II:
We''re going to win both, as long as we don''t stupidly pull out of Iraq on 1st and goal, and as long as we increase troops, maintain the Afghan govt and get more from the weak Nato allies like France and Germany who up to this year have tried to avoid all fighting in Afghanistan.

Part 1: We''re going to win in Afghanistan just like we''re winning in Iraq post-surge.
We''ve fought two wars in the War on Terror. One small one in Iraq and one very small one in Afghanistan. The small Iraq war, which was originally not a terrorist war but became one when Alqaeda-in-Iraq forced it on the Iraqis and the US troops there, has swung decisively in our favor and remained there for over a year now. US deaths in Iraq are going to drop this year from 900 in 2007 to around 350 for 2008, which will make it by far the lowest year of that war for US soldier deaths. Similarly, Iraqi civilian deaths have dropped drastically and remained low. The terrorists in Iraq are increasingly impotent, fractured, ineffective, and diminishing.
Afghanistan is a very small war, which in this "increase in violence" is now up to about 1/8 the casualties that soldiers in Iraq faced between 2004-07. Also civilian deaths in Afghanistan are a fraction today of what Iraq was at its worst. We will eventually move more troops into Afghanistan and win there, doing a surge as in Iraq. Reports are already coming out of Pakistani tribesmen fighting the Taliban and Alqaeda which is what we first began hearing in Iraq in 05 and 06 with Sunnis turning against Alqaeda, which was a huge part of AQI''s failure in recent years.

This is the reality of war.People are wounded and people die. Our family, friends and loved ones. What you should ask is Why. The person they are hunting for isn''t even there. Load them up for Pakistan or bring them home, ALL of the Troops!

The reason why we are over there is to forward the goals of the Unite Nations one world government.
You can not win an occupation.

to finish my last comment, i am apalled that cbs has shown pictures of our soldiers, lying on the ground, shot...close ups of faces...my husband serves with vasquez, and is a friend of ours. it is not only disturbing to see his face and wounded body on television, but ignorant of the cbs channel to think that he does not have a family here, watching that happen. and also, to show a humvee of soldiers killed, their bodies lying lifeless on the ground, does cbs not think that is over-the-line?? if it were their family member, im sure they would have much more understanding of our feelings. I am positive i am not the only one with this strong feelng, but then again, my husband is serving..and alot of my friends husbands are as well..

support our troops..AND THEIR FAMILIES!

I found this episode not only very educational for the civilians on the USA, but disturbing to the ones who are married to those soldiers. I speak for myself, others may not agree. This special was done on my husband''s unit. Although my husband is not in the same troop as the one at wilderness, he is near by,doing the same type of work as those men. I found it disturbing to watch friends of ours on tv, hurt. But it is also good to show the Americans what is TRULY going on in Afghanistan. I think it is important for people who do NOT support our troops to realize what they are doing and how they are putting their lives on the line everyday for our country. As for myself, having a husband at war, for not only once, but twice..I am scared for him and his surrounding soldiers. But I will continue to support them, I will continue to bake cookies every few weeks and send over, to remind them of the love back home. I hope this special was an eye-opener to many of the Americans sitting at home, lazy.

Remember...Even if you do not support this war, you can still support our troops.
