I have an 11 year old son. Children in this society need to be radically informed about sexual predators, and that if they are ever kidnapped, THAT THEY CAN ESCAPE ON THEIR OWN, OR REACH OUT TO ANYONE NEARBY TO HELP THEM ESCAPE. Children have to be taught before hand, that if this happens to them... they must break free at any given opportunity. My child has been trained in self-defense karate since age 5, his instructor has conducted STRANGER DANGER classes where the children are approached by abductees. Children need to be schooled on NOT BEING SUBMISSIVE TO CAPTIVITY!! THEY HAVE THE LEARN TO FIGHT FOR THEMSELVES IN TIMES OF DISPAIR!! My son is 11, and I cannot imagine him not running at any given opportunity. He is not a passive child, he is strong-minded and willful.... I DO UNDERSTAND THE MANIPULATIVE CONTROL PEOPLE GET OVER PEOPLE, BUT WE HAVE TO TRY TO TEACH MEN, WOMEN, AND CHILDREN BETTER SURVIVAL SKILLS!!! HOW TO FIGHT AND SAY F__CK YOU TO PREDATORS!!

Shawn, I am so sad everytime I hear about these situations Please know that you are being prayed for and God Loves You and I believe that God has a very special plan for your life. He uses all our hurts. What the devil means for evil God uses for the Good. God Bless you!!!

Shawn,

I hope you find true love and lasting happiness in your life. You have risen above adversity and like you said, have made a point to look ahead and not back. Blessings to you.

Shawn - you are an amazing man ! You exemplify courage, caring and dignity and your ability to articulate your feelings has influenced thousands of people. I guess it has a lot to do with your parents, who, in your childhood years, instilled you with their love and strength - and in this wonderful time since your release have reacted with understanding, great love, intelligence and the kind of hopeful faith that sustained them for over four years.
Thank you Shawn, for teaching us all so much.

I have known the Bequette family for nearly 40 years and up until 2 years ago, Todd had been disowned by his family. I know he has or at least had a wife and kids that supported him over the past 25+ years. I would just like to say to Shawn's family please stand behind Shawn as Todd's family did not. He needs the support of a loving family. Todd had a very strong wife and kids and they were all very close from what I saw. I just wonder why it is that Nellie days her mother died from this. I was there when she died of cancer and she refused to see Todd. He was ordered to stay away from the funeral but attended any way. If I remember right, Todd's father-in-law attended the funeral with Todd, his wife and a least one of their children. I'm sure Todd's wife and kids know more about what Todd has been through tha a sister that was not around and ridiculed him any chance she got. I hope that Shawn's family can learn from the Bequette's to support Shawn and not turn their backs on him as Todd's family did. It seems they will be there for him since they are getting him the help he needs unlike Todd's family. Good luck to Shawn and his family. Love eachother and God Bless you all.

Shawn Hornbeck is truly an angel. I hope that he can erase all of the pain and suffering hes been through. I wish him and his family the best there is in this world. To the justice system: This creap deserves a slow, painful death. He is not worth taxpayers money.
