I think this case could be best described as a case of tunnel vision for the cops. They said Kevin wanted to taint the crime scene when he tried CPR on Nona, but yet what if he had of done nothing. He would be labeled cold and uncaring, and yet still a suspect. I have only one question, "how is one supposed to act after someone you know and love is murdered?" Everyone grieves differently. I never saw one tear from the parents during this interview, so are they guilty? The stepdap used her cellphone after Nona was murdered because he is a "cheapskate." That's odd to me but certainly doesn't make him guilty. And why didn't the parents vow to find Nona's murderer! They suffered from the same tunnel vision as the cops did! It took the defense team and the Jones' family to look at other suspects. That's what is so indicative of this case. The justice system is now "guilty until proven innocent." Thank God Kevin had a rational jury that looked at the evidence and found it lacking. Maybe someday the real murderer will be caught, and Kevin can be vindicated. I hope that Nona's family will find peace and maybe one day apologize to the Jones' family. Both families lost someone they love and that was the beautiful Nona. May she rest in peace!

Wow. Here is an investigator's guide on what not to do. Small town police department over their heads. In almost all situations, the immediate family wants to see blood - immediately! The lack of emotion with the mom is for two reasons; much time has passed and she is on national t.v. living her "15 minutes" of fame. I wouldn't go so far as to say the stepfather is an idiot but he's certainly a flake. My bet is that it was the first cell phone he's owned and it was free! The P.D. investigator giving the evidence back to him was a major screwup. Finally and unbelievably, it seems like very little groundwork was implemented by the investigators. How could they miss a neighbor, that had a history of assault and more specifically, sexual assault? The neighbor was out on parol and had previously attacked a female jogger on a running trail. Even if his official residence wasn't listed as his mom's house/apt, wouldn't one think that they would do a quick canvass of the area's violent offenders and persons on parol? This is a perfect example of a lazy investigative (barely) force committing "Tunnel vision." DNA was Kevin's saviour on this one.

scary stuff...sloppy police work can ruin a persons life. Detectives are sometimes blinded by a determination to solve the crime.

Wow!!!! its so nice that people didn't believe Kevin was guilty, I thought I was the only one that thought that way. Thank you to ICEEColdCherry and miguelle1. You both put into words that I couldn't do. Thats one really weird mother and same goes for the step father.

I think Nona's mother is totally annoying and a weirdo! Who smiles while they're talking about their brutally murdered daughter. The mother of the boyfriend seems more distraught than the actual victim's mother. Plus, who in the world doesn't know their daughter is being molested by their husband? This whole family seems crazy on Nona's side. And what about the step-father? Who in the world takes their daughter's cell phone and uses it because he didn't want to buy another one. He's either an IDIOT or guilty of something!! CRAZINESS!! Not to mention the fact that the officer gives the phone (key evidence) to the weird step-dad. For all we know, the ditsy mother may have continued the cycle and re-married someone just like the biological father who may have abused Nona as well. He seemed so strange and unemotional. I think they need to look at him too. Had I been a juror, Kevin would have gone free without hesitation just because of the shottiness of the police department. You can't send anyone to jail on this botched investigation anyway. Whew!! Very disturbing story....That police department better get it together or the real murderer will never be caught. I believed Kevin was guilty for the first 5 minutes then changed my mind immediately after that.

I find it odd and very suspicious that Nona's stepfather wanted to take back the cell phone, a key evidence. I also find it odd that both nona's mother and step father was smiling w/no sign of sadness during the interviews. The whole entire episode of this I felt that the boyfriend was innocent. Lie detector tests are not evidence and not 100% accurate. He was also voluntarily taking all these tests. It's not right for cops to keep making assumptions, labeling it "a motive" and calling it evidence. I could think of a "motive" for every couple out there too.. rarely or no relationship is "perfect." I really hope justice will finally be served.
