The surge has at best stabilized security for a short period of time only at great cost in American casualties. The whole premise of the war is bogus because it has proven to be a very huge drain on our economy. We are spending $10 billion a month while the Iraqi''s have an $80 billion surplus in the bank. The political reconciliation of the Sunnis, Shias, and Kurds is still not anywhere close to where it should be. Kirkuk could explode at anytime.

The surge is another example of pushing the American military to the breaking point so American oil companies can drill in Iraq. The US military does not exist to increase corporate profits. We hear today that Afghanistan''s war is failing by Sec. of Def. Gates and Admiral Mullen. The strain placed on America''s military is intolerable, suicides are way up, alcoholism, divorce, and tens of thousands of veterans have received little or no care for PTSD, and traumatic brain injuries. The Iraq war is going to cost $3 trillion according to Prof. Linda Bilmes. This is a huge price to pay to drill for oil in Iraq. Germany, Israel, Denmark are working on all electric plugin cars powered by renewable energy sources. Why are we still burning gasoline in the 21st century? You guessed it corporate special interests on K-Street divorced from the concerns of average people who pay the bills and send their children to serve in the military.

These issues obviously arouse a lot of controversy and differing opinions these days, but what I''m most struck by is that very few of the posters are able to write a coherent, properly spelled sentence! A sad state of affairs, and hopefully not indicative of the country as a whole (hope springs eternal!).

Like others have said, I SERIOUSLY doubt this windbag has "access" to "highly classified" "TC" or "SCI" info. With that being said, as for his "secret missions to locate, target and kill", they have been in place since the French/Indian wars with the beginning of "Rogers'' Rangers" AKA "unconventional warfare" which are the true origins of the Special Warfare Operators. I understand Bob did a whopping 4 whole years in the Navy, but after 16 years of honorable service, I feel it is a disgrace to my brothers and sisters in arms AND in harm''s way for people like this to trample on ALL the good they are doing around the world to sell a few books.

I have never seen Scott Pelley say anthing good about President Bush...Your politics shows on your facial expressions all the time. What Woodward said about President Bush making the decision to send more troops to Iraqi and having a secret weapon, seems to be working..so what happens Scott when the war is won, Woodward has made all the money on his book, and President Bush''s decisions are responsible for winning the war??? You and CBS would be congradulated for Woodward becoming a millionaire. Woodward plays it cool by publishing the book right before our election. Hoping to help Obama win the election. If he does win, whatever the two of you do, please do not complain about his "spending" or inexperience, or having solutions to our countries problems.. Too late for that..If anything should be learned in this situation, NO ONE should ever speak to Woodward on anything!!!No one Casey spoke with could ever be trusted to keep his comments secret!!

Woodward and any other person, news media or otherwise, should be tried for treason for this kind of story. I am ashamed of the media and their constant attack on the White House, the President, and any other person who is not out to further their own liberal agenda. You only make the war against terror more difficult and put our own soldiers in danger.

I hear that Woodward is going to be on 60 minutes, then I see the teasers on this website. I turn on 60 minutes at 7PM and its women''s tennis. Get real. CBS doesn''t preempt its high ratings shows for anything, but it just happens to today. What gives?

Woodward has access, so I cant imagine why he would be censored, but ok....so we know Bush is still a one-dimensional idiot, like all the morons who voted for him. His strategy in a war is to kill em all. Real deep. Yale University should be closed for giving him a degree.

All you right-wingers, elect oldguy and Caribou Barbie, noone cares. They''re gonna be sending all you yokel''s children to Iran, Afghan, and Pakistan after the election is over, and that will take a draft. Maybe they think they can do this war without a draft. Pretty amazing. I guess that new weapon, whether it''s an energy weapon, or guided bullet is so scary. Why then do they keep getting the wrong intelligence in afghan and killing civilians if they''re such great geniuses? Maybe we''re intentionally targeting civilians to get the blood up. We are a professional military murderer nation. What progress.

This country has gone fully off the rails. Time for people of means and brains to leave it.

Wittysummer, Obviously you are not aware of the First Amendment and the part that states, Freedom Of The Press. Do you really think that Bob Woodwood would repeat or put in print anything that would endanger our national security? According to the Freedom Of Information Act any citizen can gather this information on their own.

For exceptional insight into the war on terror watch THE WAR WITHIN, the movie. A great film about the radicalization of a young jihadist. It was one of the most controversial films made in America - ever.

wittysummer says he has lost respect for journalists for reporting facts and events and truths.

Wittysummer blames a journalist for telling America the horrors and mismanagement and lies of this war by this administration?? Just what do you think a free press is? Just what do you think a Democracy is based on? Just what part of the ugly truth don''t you get?
This administration is so underhanded they betrayed the puppet in Iraq that counted on some assurance of honesty to let the US occupy and destroy a country. He now knows what we know. You cannot trust this administration on anything.

I just listened to Bob Woodward''s inte3rview about his new book. I am sure he will earn millions from its sales but I am disappointed and angry that he talks so openly about things that should not be discussed, and that Scott Pelley presses Mr. Woodward to tell even more. The war is not over and whether you agree with the President''s direction or not, you have no business talking openly about some aspects of military operations. There are legitimate reasons why some things are classified, and I expect professional journalists to be more security conscious and not be so explicit about things that were never intended for public knowledge. My respect for journalists fell still further tonight.
