The Feed's Friday Music Round-Up: Girl power edition
(CBS News) Friday means music here at The Feed. It's a really wonderful given each week. But this particular one also happens to be a major birthday milestone for my younger sister, Allison. So in honor of her special day, I'm going to dedicate this Friday Music Round-Up to her and go with a theme of "girl power", starting with a band that aptly has half of that empowering phrase in their name. I'm, of course, speaking about the one, the only: Cat Power! (This is where you click play to take in the epic awesome that is their brand-new music video for "Manhattan" above.)
Continue »Time-lapse travel to Yosemite and Sierra Nevada
(CBS News) Question: On a scale of 1-10, how happy do you think it makes me when we are submitted great original content to post up on The Feed? Answer: Potato! It makes me so happy that it goes from being a number to an irrational number to an irrational word as an answer. So on that note, I'm feeling very "potato" right now, and you should check out this majestic time-lapse of Yosemite and Sierra Nevada submitted by a fan (because we are too cool for school!).
Continue »The Mario theme song played on a human piano
(CBS News) You know how it is. You want to learn how to play an instrument, but it's apparently a "skill" that takes "hard work" and "effort." No one has time for that! Instead, have you considered just stopping hundreds of people on the street, filming each one singing a single note and then editing the resulting footage into a cohesive melody transforming them into some kind of fleshy human piano?
Continue »Unique music made with leaves and a turntable
(CBS News) I mentioned in a post earlier (and was almost completely unrelated to the content) that music can come from anywhere. Luckily, what I wrote then actually applies now to this latest work above from an amazing sound designer and composer who has been featured on The Feed quite a few times now. So make like a tree and "leave" my writing for a bit to check it out.
Continue »Take a moment to have some stop-motion fun today
(CBS News) No matter who you are or what you do, it's important to take a moment each day to stop, relax and "smell the roses" (or watch viral videos!). Which is exactly what The Feed is here to help you do. So take a minute to watch two items that fit with this idea of stopping perfectly through the medium of stop-motion, starting with a variation on the classic game "Tetris" above.
Continue »The Feed's Supplemental Friday Music Round-Up
(CBS News) Hello, and welcome to The Feed's Supplemental Friday Music Round-Up. Our first video is a cover of Leonard Cohen's love letter to Janis Joplin, "Chelsea Hotel No 2," sung by my favorite human Instagram photo, Lana Del Rey. (Just kidding, we totally love you, Lana!)
Continue »The Feed's Friday Music Round-Up: Roller coaster ride edition
(CBS News) You're probably asking right now: why is this Friday Music Round-Up called "roller coaster ride edition"? And I'd respond by gasping, and then asking why you don't trust me after all this time together. (I thought you loved me!) After a lot of crying and consoling, I may explain that in terms of the music today, I'm going take you up, then down, then up, then down and finally end things on a "high" note. (The definition of that term left open to interpretation). So hand me your ticket and let's start the ride with Nikki Williams' new music video for "Glowing" above.
Continue »Absolutely stunning time-lapse of Aurora Borealis
(CBS News) I have birthday coming up soon, and have been doing a bit of reflecting on life, love, work, the universe (and everything in-between). While there are so many things to be excited about, there's also a multitude that have me a bit on edge. And then I watched the video above and felt a calmness wash over me. So what I'm basically saying is that I highly recommend you click play and check out this absolutely stunning time-lapse of Aurora Borealis. There is a set-up of the context you should see, but the actual time-lapse kicks in after the 1-minute mark.
Continue »Illusion with reconfigured tiles will astound you
(CBS News) Okay, this is one of those videos where I have a theory on what's actually occurring, but am not certain. So what I'm going to do is ask is that while you watch the video above (which should totally astound you!), think over what is happening and how it's happening. M'kay?
Continue »Excellent music mashup and homage to video games
(CBS News) Do you love music? Do you enjoy video games? (And do you hate written, rhetorical questions that you can't really answer?) If you said "yes" (and probably even if you didn't), then you're going to absolutely love this music mashup that pays homage to both above.
