Modern-day fable "Internet Story" is so riveting
Internet Story from Adam Butcher on Vimeo.
(CBS) - I discovered Adam Butcher's "Internet Story" when I was stumbling this morning. I was instantly intrigued by the short film's description: "A fast-paced and experimental film told through fragments of internet videos, animations, blogs and news articles... A series of shocking events unfolds when a young man creates a public treasure hunt for his own amusement and a video blogger decides to pursue the riddles across country." I decided I'd commit to the nine-minute journey. I hit play and didn't regret it one bit.
The movie is narrated like a fable, but incorporates the Internet. The interesting pairing kept me at the edge of my seat. I wondered - where is this going, what will be the conclusion and what's the moral of the story?
I don't want to spoil all of the fun for you... Watch it above before you read on.

Tech-savvy baby can't figure out a magazine
(CBS) - So okay, the baby in this YouTube video didn't actually say, "a magazine is an iPad that does not work" (as stated on its headline), but she might as well have.
From watching this clip, it's apparent that tech-savvy infants and toddlers (as in, those who have had plenty of experience with iPads and iPhones) will not know how to - uhhh - flip a page in a magazine (you know, in the literal sense).

Video explains how to make a time machine
(CBS) - Are you watching "Terra Nova"? I am and I may just get hooked. In the show, "future" people leave a deteriorating Earth to live life during a time when dinosaurs roamed and the planet's natural resources were plentiful. It's interesting, however, the idea of time travel has been a big question mark for me. I know, I know - it's only a TV show, but I've seriously been trying to wrap my head around whether or not we (or our kids, grand kids or great grand kids) can go back in time. Sadly, my brain has not been successful at figuring this out - I got a C in physics, after all.
Then, I came across this video from one of my favorite sites ever, New Scientist, and it blew my mind.

iMessages gives all iOS users a universal IM platform for sending text, photos, videos, links, and even locations.
/ Donald Bell/CNET(CBS) - With the rolling out of iOS 5, one of the updates to the operating system to be really excited about is iMessage. "iMessage adds a new way to keep in touch and a way to circumvent your carrier's monthly allotment of messages," says CNET.
iOS 5 reviews from around the web
More than two trillion text messages are sent every year in the United States alone. And most of those texts are not the free kind. Some carriers charge as much as 20 cents to send and another 20 cents to receive. In fact, they have generated $20 billion in revenue for mobile businesses like Verizon and AT&T.
Apple's iMessage: What to expect, good and bad
Soon, companies making all of those dollars may see a drop in revenue as Apple launches iMessage, a service that will allow iPhone owners send messages with text, photos and videos. iMessage will send messages over a Wi-Fi or cellular data connection and is part of an update to Apple's iOS, reports New York Times.

iPhone 4S to hit the market tomorrow
Instagram
(CBS) - See the photo above of the iPhone 4S? No, it's not mine, gosh darn it! It's Instagram user trealog's new mobile device. The caption: "iPhone 4S EARLY." Show off.
So where is mine, you ask? Well, my boyfriend and I got up early like the rest of you on Thursday, October 6. We called AT&T, our service provider, to get two phones around 7:30 a.m. (We could've ordered online, but we figured we may run into issues since we were also upgrading to a family plan. It would've been a complicated order.) We waited about 45 minutes until we actually got a human on the phone. The ordering process took about another 45 minutes. It seems, they were having technical difficulties. To make a long story short, they had accidentally charged my boyfriend's credit card three times. Oh, great.
Even still, we remained calm - we will dispute the charges later if they post. We just wanted to get the call over with, pre-order and move on with our lives, that's all. Around 9:15 a.m., we were done with the phone call, and assumed our new iPhone 4Ses would arrive within a week.
Putting iPhone 4S' Siri to the test
Tomorrow marks that day. We've been skeptical since we didn't receive an order confirmation in our emails. What gives? My boyfriend called AT&T to follow up and discovered our orders - for whatever reason - have been delayed. It seems we're not getting our iPhone 4Ses tomorrow after all. Instead, a note in our emails told us we should expect our shipment within 21 to 28 days. Oh, the horror!
Incredible stop-motion video of our favorite '80s toys
(CBS) - From Hot Wheels to Legos, this stop-motion video created by French web designer and animator Micael Reynaud provides such a wonderful trip down memory lane.
The two-minute clip entitled "The King of Lego Land" is simply brilliant. And, I'm ecstatic the Magic 8 Ball made it into the roundup, along with Nintendo games, transformers and of course, legos.
How many of these toys did you play with as a kid?
Putting iPhone 4S' Siri to the test
(CBS) - Voice recognition technology has been around for years, but many are hoping Apple's Siri will be even more sophisticated than its predecessors. In the video above, Jason Snell, MacWorld editorial director, put the feature, which is available on the iPhone 4S, to the test.
Hands-on look at iPhone's new voice assistant
At first, Snell demonstrates what the iPhone 4 can do, such as provide weather updates and play songs from your music library. "What's the weather like today?" Snell asked Siri. "What's the weather like in Chicago?"
Then, the he told Siri he wants to have lunch. Siri suggested eateries nearby. After that, Snell asked Siri to be more specific. He wanted to see suggestions for places downtown. "How about downtown?" he asked. Siri didn't quite understand. "I want to have lunch downtown," Snell followed. Siri still didn't quite get it, but Snell pointed out that it once worked for him.
Anthropologie stuff gets mocked on blog
Anthropologie
(CBS) - We love the boho chic fashions Anthropologie is known for. Those fancy scarves are to die for. We can't get enough of the hippie-like skirts. And don't even get us started on the frilly dresses. The price tags, on the other hand, we don't love so much.
So we're not surprised why the clothing and home-decor store is being mocked.
Anthroparodie, a site started by a blogger in Boulder, Colo., pokes fun at the products at the earthy-yet-pricey store.

Facebook's iPad app is finally here
Facebook
(CBS) - C'mon, iPad users, you know you're excited about this one. Regardless of the availability of third-party iPad apps for the social network, it's just not the same (you say in that whine-y voice). So yay for the long-awaited Facebook iPad app, which was just released today.
This afternoon, Facebook released an updated version of its iPhone app designed to fill out the larger screen of the iPad. The Facebook iPad app is finally here! Glorious! By the way, it's free. Perfect!

iPhone app to help improve your vision
istockphoto
(CBS) - It's no secret - as we age, our visions deteriorate. Over time, our eyes tend to lose focusing power on nearby things. I know, I'm affected - I'm farsighted.
I've always been told that my poor eyesight is unavoidable and unfixable. But today, there's hope thanks to an iPhone app developed by Ucansi. It's called GlassesOff, and it "can help you achieve over 80 percent improvement in vision acuity," according to the company's site.

Are you suffering from "text neck"?
istockphoto
So what is "text neck"? Chiropractors warn that your use of cell phones and tablet computers can be causing the condition. (Oh, you mean, reading?)
"The affliction, caused by flexing the neck for extended periods of time, can be a forerunner of permanent arthritic damage if it goes without treatment," says a science correspondent from The Telegraph.

Weezer's Mikey Welsh may have predicted death
Twitter
(CBS) - Ex-Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh passed away yesterday in Chicago. The father-of-two was 40 years old and is suspected to have died from a drug overdose.
We are saddened by this news. It is yet another story of a talented individual going too soon.
Welsh was visiting Chicago to see his old band Weezer headline and play at the Riot Fest. While police do not suspect foul play, they believe narcotics may have been the cause of death, reports The Chicago Tribune.
Creepily, Welsh may have predicted his demise on Twitter. "On September 26, he wrote: 'dreamt I died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). Need to write my will today,'" reports Daily Mail. Then, he added, "correction - the weekend after next." He mentioned the premonition on his Facebook, too.

The best free phone apps for runners
Endomondo
(CBS) - The holidays are right around the corner - less than two months until Thanksgiving and three months until Christmas and New Year's. That means, you'll be marathon-eating everything in sight, including dessert, and don't even get us started on all the sugary cocktails.
For family's sake, join in the fun, of course. Don't deprive yourself of all of the generous helpings the kitchen and bar will provide. But if you're worried about maintaining your fabulous figure, it may be a good idea to keep up or begin a running routine.

New iPhone 4S disappoints, but maybe it's not so bad?
iPhone 4S may offer plenty of new features and improved but a few key upgrades are missing.
/ AppleThere's no iPhone 5. Boo!
"Let's Talk iPhone" Apple press conference live blog
But, the iPhone 4S, which comes out October 14, is still better than no update, upgrade or improvement at all. Right? (Help me convince myself, here.)
A buyer's guide to the new iPhone 4S
At a glance: the iPhone 4S vs. older iPhones
In creating the new iPhone 4S, Greg Joswiak, vice president of iPhone product marketing, had asked, "How do you improve on something that's so extraordinary?" This video sums up the new iPhone's improvements, as well as Siri, a new way to interact with your iPhone using just your voice.
