The Facebook co-founder's one-time dorm room project is set to go public, to make history in the IPO record books, and to create a whole lot of instant wealth. And today the social network's chief executive officer turns 28, an event that presumably will be marked with a flurry of birthday messages on his Facebook page.

Democrats to employers: Stop asking for Facebook passwords

(CBS News) Abraham Lincoln reportedly filed a patent for Facebook in 1845, at least that's what a viral hoax had the Internet believing this week.

Blogging consultant Nate St. Pierre decided to have a little fun with the Internet Tuesday by fabricating a story about how Lincoln was rejected for a patent in 1845 for a Facebook-like newspaper.

(CBS News) Facebook announced the App Center Wednesday. The planned applications hub may take a chunk out of Apple and Google's mobile market share.

To be clear, Facebook apps are not the same as Apple or Google apps. Apps developed for an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch need to be approved by Apple before they can be downloaded onto iOS devices.

Just like the current Apps and Games page, Facebook App Center will list apps that can be installed on Facebook. The biggest change, however, is the move to mobile.

(CBS/AP) Microsoft, which just bought patents from AOL for $1 billion, is now turning around and selling most of them to Facebook for $550 million.

Microsoft and Facebook said Monday that Facebook is buying about 650 of the 925 AOL patents and patent applications Microsoft bought.
