(CNET) Samsung Electronics is looking to press its momentum with the Galaxy S III smartphone.
The Korean electronics conglomerate said it will offer up to $300 for an existing smartphone if you switch to one of its phones. You can check out the offer here.Samsung has emerged as a dominant player in the smartphone business, taking the crown away from Apple. While Apple has its limited iPhone lineup, Samsung has been able to take the lead on the back of a wide variety of smartphones. But its flagship Galaxy S III has proven to be a blockbuster around the world.
Apple and Samsung were awaiting a decision on what U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh would do about a spat between the two companies stemming from excluded evidence Samsung sent out to press. Apple had drawn concern about the issue, saying it might taint the jury.
Koh put that to rest this morning. She dismissed Apple's request to punish Samsung's attorneys and instead brought jurors out one at a time, asking if they had heard any news about the trial, and re-affirming that they could be fair and impartial.
Most jurors told Koh they hadn't heard anything about it.Continue »
(CBS News) Rumors that the next Apple iPhone is coming on September 12 are beginning to look closer to reality. An executive at the Japanese electronics company Sharp may have let the cat out of the bag.
Screens for the iPhone 5, which will be made by Sharp, are shipping this month, according to the company's president Takashi Okuda.
"Shipments will start in August," Okuda said to the press during an earnings briefing Thursday. Sharp is one of three suppliers, along with LG Display and Japan Display, to make Apple screens, Reuters reports.Continue »

Amazon has updated its cloud music player to mimic Apple's iTunes Match, but is offering 10 times more storage space for the same price.
Apple's iTunes Match is a service that works in conjunction with iCloud to put all of your music in the cloud for access anywhere. The service will scan your music library and match it with songs in the iTunes Store.Continue »
(CNET) International Apple TV owners are complaining that they have been blocked from Hulu Plus.
According to The Next Web, which has obtained images of an error message displayed when users try to stream a show or film from Hulu Plus, those with an Apple TV and U.S. iTunes account are able to browse Hulu's selection of titles. Upon choosing one of those titles, however, a "Geo Restriction" pops up, telling them they cannot access the particular video.Continue »
