"We got outcoached." -- Tiki Barber in 2006, ripping Tom Coughlin

"That's football. It's not complicated. This is something that teams and kids and coaches do from 12 years old to college and beyond. It isn't rocket science." -- Barber ripping Coughlin again over not running the ball enough

"I don't know if he realizes how much $17 million is. That is absolutely ridiculous, to turn that down. He's already the highest-paid defensive player in the league. He's already making more than most quarterbacks. ... Michael is not thinking about the team; he's thinking about himself." -- Barber ripping former teammate Michael Strahan for a contract dispute in 2002

"His personality hasn't been so that he can step up, make a strong statement and have people believe that it's coming from his heart." -- Barber ripping former teammate Eli Manning in 2007

Just recently several players for the New York Giants were discussing their old teammate, Tiki Barber, and the recent controversy involving Mr. Gold Medal C--- himself.

In case you've been hiding in your closet from ref-battering Cuban Taekwondo fighters, Barber was discussing the Olympics with a woman co-host when it appeared Barber used an offensive word referring to the female anatomy. Barber has denied using the word. Oh, that Tiki. He's such a coot.

I mean, hoot.

Some Giants players got a huge kick out of the controversy, according to one person close to the players. Let's just say there are some in the Giants locker room not exactly sad to see Barber stuck in this predicament.

Apparently Giants fans also remember how Barber treated some of his teammates and coaches. During New York's preseason game against Cleveland at Giants Stadium this month, footage of Barber was shown on the scoreboard and was met with a raucous round of boos.

When Barber was a Giant he basically called Strahan greedy, Coughlin a grumpy old goat who took the joy out of football and Manning a gold medal runt.

How times have changed.

Coughlin has a ring and Barber doesn't.

Strahan has a ring and Barber doesn't. He's about to embark on a television career that could end up better than Barber's.

Manning has a ring and, well, you get the point.

This isn't to pick on Barber (maybe just a little). This is about good old-fashioned redemption, mainly in the case of Manning and Coughlin.

Barber in many ways was a catalyst, almost a leader, of the anti-Coughlin mob several years ago. He wanted Coughlin gone and played to a New York media that whined about Coughlin because he made their jobs more difficult. Upon retiring, Barber stuck his pitchfork further into Coughlin's lower back by saying Coughlin was a big reason he left football.

Your Turn: Reader Rip
JBANK: The Giants were not a better football team without Tiki. Tiki didn't say anything that horrible. He said, "We were out-coached." Yes, they were. Truth. He said, "We should run the ball more." Yes, they should have. He said, "Eli doesn't have the personality to lead us." No, Eli didn't. What is wrong with that? It is just looks worse because the media got a hold of it.

Mike Freeman: The problem, JBank, is that Barber should've taken his beefs to the players and coaches. Not the media. He threw his teammates under a great big bus in order to make himself look good to the media. Why should your friend Terrell Owens get ripped for similar behavior and Barber get a pass?

What Barber did to Manning was in many ways even worse. By publicly embarrassing Manning and portraying him as a clueless goober trust fund baby incapable of leading men -- an incomparable sin for an NFL quarterback -- Barber was, in this opinion, purposely trying to undermine Manning.

Since then Manning has undergone one of the more stunning transformations we've ever seen from an NFL quarterback. Manning didn't just prove Barber wrong. He proved many of you wrong and might likely continue to do so. It's entirely possible Manning ends up winning another Super Bowl within a few years.

There is nothing more gratifying than watching a player so many people (including an occasionally smarmy ex-running back) thought would fall on his pedigreed butt succeed in a major way.

What if Eli ends up winning more titles than his brother? It's definitely possible.

The younger Manning has come a long way since some awkward-looking photographs of him appeared on the Internet several years ago. In one Manning looked blitzed; not by a linebacker but by a number of tall cold ones. His eyes were barely open and he resembled a co-star from Dude, Where's My Car?

Now, Manning's starring in: "Tiki, Here's My Ring."

Where's yours?
