Mass. family lost in corn maze calls 911

A family in Massachusetts got an unexpected adventure after getting lost in a corn maze.

Police got a 911 call from a woman who was trapped in the Connors Farm maze in Danvers, Mass., after closing time Monday evening.

She said it was supposed to be fun, but quickly became a nightmare.

On the 911 call, the woman says, "I don't see anybody. I'm really scared. It's really dark and we got a 3-week-old baby with us.

The operator replies, "Just relax, calm down. You husband's with you right?"

She replies, "Yes, but my baby --- "

The operator responds, "I understand. And a police officer is on the way."

"Early Show" co-anchor Jeff Glor reported it didn't take long for police to find the family and escort them out of the maze to safety. As it turns out, they were just 25 feet away from the exit.

1. This maze is TOO big.
2. Bringing a newborn in was a bad idea.
3. Don't the staff have to do a walk-thru to make sure all are out before closing??
4. Kudos to them for calling the police. They were scared and had the baby- they needed the police.
5. The police have been called for lesser "emergencies".

This story illustrates how completely HELPLESS some people have become in this society.

1) If these people would have walked in any straight line, they would have gotten out of the maze and into the open.

2) The police should not have responded to this call!

I actually had to create an account after reading the comment about "allowing them to have children". Are you kidding me? Furthermore, to all of you VERY critical people, were you not young and stupid at one time or were you born perfect unlike the rest of us? If you were, you should be ruling the world. Give me a break.

Why in heaven's name would you bring an infant into a corn maze to begin with? It's not like the kid will remember it as a memory but will have to carry the idiocy of the parents for doing so. A corn maze. Life threatening corn maze. We're lost. Oh no. One-adom-12...see the couple...see the couple. I would be soooo embarrassed if I had to call for that.

Well, thank goodness they are safe, and the child is safe. I would not classify them as idiots, because they were smart enough to try and get out before dark. And considering the safety of the child, they elected to call 911 as last resort, to spring them to safety.

Reading these comments, I do not see how this has a bearing on whether they are good parents or not. They may be great parents...at least they are together, not divorced, both caring for a child, and not just one.

This could have been a lot worse, but it wasn't...thanks to smart people like them to call assistance when assistance was needed.

What's the WORST thing that would have happened to these people other than spending the night like idiots lost in a corn maze. No one's life was threatened.

Ok people I normally just read and never post a comment. But this is a corn field. It's not a building or solid walls. If you get lost walk in a straight directions thru the stalks to you get out. Even if you have to walk around the edge to get back your still out. Still didn't have to call 911.

Walking through corn stalks can get you cut up badly. Smart people would not carry a baby through that.

Corn stalks are not razor wire. Anyone with 1/2 a brain would be able to get through without even getting dirty. Been there. Done that.

OK, first of all a circle or square is not a maze so the example is not valid. A maze always has a entrance and exit. The hand on the wall trick will work. Try it in your house sometime. Pretend your front door is the entrance and the back door is the exit.

most houses don't have islands in them. All large mazes will.

Newborns should not be exposed to the general population much less the outdoors until at least six weeks of age.

Outdoors is actually good for new borns, especially in country settings where the air is more cleaner than inner city. I will agree that newborns must not be exposed to the "general population" nonchalantly. A cough, a sneeze a burp or even a passing of gas can emit air borne bacteria and germs than their little bodies are not equipped to fight off, especially those 'cow milk' formula babies. Those that are breast fed tends to fight air borne bacteria more efficiently.

Hmmmmm. The temptation to call "Darwin" is strong, but...two adults stumbling blind through the corn in the dark sounds like fun. Two adults with a 3-week old infant stumbling around in the dark? Mmmmmmm, no, not fun at all.

Rural area, tall corn, and suddenly the LIGHTS GO OUT. (They were in there *after* closing.)

While I myself would not freak-I'm a woodsman-I can see how others might be just a wee bit put out. And if you look at the video, that's a pretty huge corn maze. An embarrassing decision, but a smart one, all things considered.

Bringing a 3-week old baby into a corn maze, full of dust and pollen. Great on those tiny little lungs...

I hope they have to pay the cost of their "rescue".

Jeez, these kinds of story and people this stupid really make me despair.
