Iran: Cheap Qurans from China filled with typos

TEHRAN, Iran - Iranian publishers are complaining that cost-saving plans to print Qurans (Korans) in China are yielding embarrassing results: A slew of typos.

The head of Iran's Quran oversight office says some of the Chinese-printed versions of Islam's holy book are littered with spelling errors.

Ahmad Haji-Sharif is quoted by Iran's semiofficial Mehr news agency as warning consumers that lower-cost Qurans may have mistakes in the holy verses. He noted earlier this week that Iranian-produced Qurans carry a higher price but have passed a careful inspection for any flaws.

Officials are now discussing a ban on Chinese-printed Qurans.

The Qurans that are in use in Iran often have both Farsi and the original Arabic.

Haji-Sharif didn't say whether the misspellings prevail in the Arabic or Farsi segments.

So what? Fiction is fiction & a few words difference is nothing big. Loook at our people like Palin inventing and abusing words all the time. They are told what it says by their mullahs and how to interpret it even if they can read. How many of our evangelicals would notice the difference in a few typos? Same story.

Stop saying muslims when you are referring to Extremists, not every Muslim is extremist and not every Christian or Jew is peaceful, for example the christian terrorist from norway and the fact that I went to Irael (I am a reform jew) and A lot of the Orthodox dont even acknoledge you are there

...and our God gave a new covenant in the New Testament, in His son Jesus where this was no longer the law. Our God didn't want people to stay locked into stone-age thinking and progress in thought , culture & rights to women....too bad Islam won't finally "walk upright " & do the same....

So what? I remember a long time ago when a zillion green and gold rain ponchos were ordered from either China or Japan that all said "Green Bay Rackers". Now THAT is a problem. Quran typos....who cares?

Perhaps the publisher was relying upon the high illiteracy rate in a country such as Afghanistan to conceal the shoddy workmanship. While Iran has a more educated population, the Arabic edition was probably available to other countries. Simple capitalism. Know many Christians unable to read their personal bible, but like their Muslim counterparts they have memorized it. Typos are irrelevant.
