SAN DIEGO - San Diego police say a boy throwing rocks at vehicles was struck in the abdomen by a crossbow bolt fired by a passenger in small sport utility vehicle.

Officer Dino Delimitros says the boy and a friend were throwing rocks in the Linda Vista neighborhood Monday afternoon when a passenger in a black Toyota RAV4 pulled out a crossbow and fired.

The boy was shot in the abdomen and was taken to a hospital. The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper says his injuries are not life-threatening.

His name and age weren't released.

Nobody has been arrested.

This is a classic case of Natural Selection. The dumb kill the dumb, then the dumb get locked up. It's a beautiful thing.

Sticks and stones may break your car glass but arrows will never hurt me.

Well, I guess he wont be throwing rocks at anything anymore. Did this kid know the idiot that pointed a laser at aircraft a few months ago?

I think John Lennon would have called what happened to the rock throwing boy instant karma. Where was the boy's mother, who should have been supervising him? If every action's consequences were as immediate as this one was, the world would be a better place. Go crossbow guy!

Kids were throwing rocks at me in the city when I was about 30. I called the police, and they told me I should have thrown rocks back, which I disagree with personally, but it may save these kids from much worse down the road if they realize there are people just as crazy as them that aren't in the mood for bs

I find it hard to believe the number of people who feel it's ok to discharge a lethal weapon from a vehicle. If the guy in the car had popped off a few rounds from a 9mm, or a .45, and hit the kid, all the anti-gun morons would be going crazy about how guns kill people. A crossbow is every much as deadly a weapon as a gun.
If the shooter was in fear for his life, then the situation would be different, but the article gives no indication that the rock even cracked a window on the car.
If you choose to carry a deadly weapon, you should know when it is appropriate to use it and be held responsible for misuse, just like the kid throwing rocks should be held responsible for his actions.

And rocks are lethal weapons too, including when thrown at cars.
