Jackson family's angst over Conrad Murray trial

Two years ago Saturday, at age 50, Michael Jackson died suddenly from an overdose of the powerful sedative Propofol.

His personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, faces manslaughter charges. The trail gets under way in September.

What's taking so long?

"Justice grinds slowly in America, and especially in Hollywood when there's a celebrity attached," says Diane Dimond, author of "Be Careful Who You Love" and a Daily Beast contributor. "The state took a long time to try to find a number of medical experts who were willing to talk about Propofol, its use and misuse, that wanted to be involved in a high-celebrity case like this. They didn't want National Enquirer reporters in their lobby, so it took them quite a while to get up the medical experts they thought was necessary. The judge finally said, 'Let's postpone this until everybody really gets ready."'

Dimond told "Early Show on Saturday Morning" co-anchor Russ Mitchell she thinks Murray has been "kind of struggling to figure out how to pay his bills. He not only has a wife and a home in Las Vegas, but he also has some other children and other families that he needs to take care of."

Jackson biographer and CBS News consultant J. Randy Taraborrelli told correspondent Priya David-Clemens, "The family is totally united in that they all agree Conrad Murray is responsible for Michael Jackson's death. ... It's tough. They really lost the heart and soul of the family."

But at trial, says CBS News legal analyst Trent Copeland, "Dr. Murray is going to go after Michael Jackson, his lifestyle, his history, every piece of evidence the prosecution presents."

Dimond says she's not so sure Murray will hammer away at Jackson, telling Mitchell. "They are going to of course going to talk about his past substance abuse. (It) came up during the criminal trial -- what he has done to his body, what he did to his body during life, not only cosmetically, but he was awfully thin, and he was dependent on drugs, and I think that will come up.

"But I think what they will try to do is say something like, 'Michael Jackson was gonna get this drug anyway. And Conrad Murray was there to help wean him off of it.' That was his very first early defense. I think they will paint Michael Jackson as someone who did this to himself, and Dr. Murray was there to try to help him. Of course, you don't help someone by using an illegal drug in an illegal way in an illegal location, in a private home."

Asked by Mitchell whether the family is concerned about the emotional toll the trial could take, if Jackson's name is dragged through the mud, Jackson family friend Brian Oxman replied, "You betcha. There's autopsy photographs which are going to be shown to the jury. Those are likely to come out in the public. It bothers Mrs. Jackson just terribly. It's very upsetting.

"Also, the attacks which are gonna happen to Michael -- they're gonna be very, very upsetting. One of the things we see in this trial is, 'Oh, well, Conrad Murray is on trial.' It is upsetting to this family that the rest of the people who are responsible for Michael's death -- and make no mistake, there are others -- the producers of this show (the tour Jackson was preparing for when he died) had Dr. Murray involved in it. They were pulling the strings, causing to happen what happened. And yet, nobody is interested in going after them. They're very upset about the entire process."

Can't believe this. If CBS really wants to make money they would be better off to raise ratings by appealing to MJ fans (I am one)instead of disgusting them. I was planning to follow this trial and pray for justice. Now I may just tune out until there is a verdict (hopefully a fair one.) I say boycott CBS. Does anyone know of other networks who will cover this trial?Maybe from another country perhaps? It is especially horrifying to think of what MJ's family will be experiencing throughout this trial, and that they will be further insulted by a poor excuse for journalism. Boycott CBS.

Dobie: I would like for you to go to your doctor and DEMAND 500 Oxycontin, and a list of other narctotics and see if he gives it to you becaue you DEMAND it. My guess is he will discharge you as his patient. A doctor that has professional ethics, will not give into patient demands, nor will he or she prescribe something they know is dangerous to the health of their patient. PERIOD. IF Michael Jackson demanded propofol, the doctor should have said "no way" and quite. At the every least, he should have monitored his patient and had the proper equipment to do so. He was completely negligent. They have the proof he was talking on his cell phone to other patients, a woman in whom he was interested, etc. while Michael Jackson lay dying. A person under anesthesia is NEVER to be left unattended. Michael Jackson would be alive today if it weren't for the negligence of the doctor he entrusted his life thinking that he could take the proper care of him.

Please consider not using Diane Dimond for your Conrad Murray trial coverage. Conrad Murray is on trial, not Michael Jackson. Thank you.

I don't know Diane Dimond, or have ever seen or heard her, but even after reading so many negative comments about her, like Nancy Grace, I shall try to be magnanimous. She obviously seems to have psychological, emotional issues too, so surely cannot be able to give an unbiased, fair and accurate judgement. CBS should be careful on, say, the upcoming trial of Conrad Murray into the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson. She seems controversially tarred with the same brush as those NoTW tabloid journalists who assassinated characters, 'monster' reputations with defamatory reports which prejudice trial outcomes and pervert/distort the course of justice, and destroy lives. Like Nancy Grace, she will be in her element on her soapbox over anything connected to Michael Jackson, dead or alive, it won't matter to her bitter and twisted reaction over him, whatever the reason. I hope you and HLN and CNN read this and take note. Two questions: Lying vicious words are dangerous. Public attitudes are changing, people are becoming much more aware. If you want to boost your ratings and the search for truth, do not use Diane Dimond; find reputable others as has been suggested. Michael deserves no less. I am not sure I agree with support for Jane Velez-Mitchell, either.

CBS, I disagree with letting Diane Dimond is a consultant of yours. That's just not right. nancy Grace for CNN already is giving MJ a bad rep and also Casey Anthony for that matter. Don't let her be your consultant. Also, Dr. Murray needs to die or be imprisioned for killing Michael (whom I am a huge fan of). Other people know Michael much better than Diane Dimond and J. Randy Taraborrelli, whom made a big huge false MJ book 6 weeks after Dr. Murray killed him. They aLso said the amount of probofol in MJ's body was enough to kill a grown elephant. For that reason, I think Dr. Murray killed Michael. I do respect other's opinions, like La Toya Jackson's, but I think he killed him. His trial I cannot wait for, and am going to watch every second of.

Dear CBS, if Diane Dimond is seriously your choice of commentator on the Murray trial, I will seriously boycott your station although I enjoy many of your shows and often end up watching your news just because I'm already there AND I say up late watching David Letterman. I feel so strongly about this that I am willing to sacrifice my little comfort routines so as not to be a hypocrite. She is definitely wrong for this. The only expertise she has as regards Michael and the Jackson family is in lying about them. Please, don't give her a platform. I have confidence that you can do better!

I agree and she teamed up with Nancy Grace from CNN who's already giving Michael and his family a bad reputation. The only person from CNN that is giving Michael a good reputation is Jane Velez- Mitchell.

rhea7: I agree completely with a boycott. I have always believed that CBS News stood head and shoulders above other news organizations and media outlets when it came to fair and professional reportage of the news. If I see a person such as Diane Dimond reporting for CBS I would have to reconsider my thinking. Diane Dimond is no professional reporter. CBS would do well to find someone of a higher caliber than Diane Dimond.

CBS you are making a HUGE mistake reporting anything about Michael Jackson using Diane Dimond. Even after his death she is still trying to destroy his name. Do you own homework on her and you will discover that the comments about her here are the truth! I noticed that she is "pairing up" with her friend Nancy Grace on CNN during the Casey Anthony trial and that spells double trouble!

As a CBS viewer, I'm deeply sadden and extremely disappointed in your choice to allow such people as Diane Dimond, J. Randy Taraborrelli, and Brian Oxman to commentary, contributor or consult in anyway. These people should not be allowed on the news at all, Specially to anything pertaining to Michael Jackson. I urge to reconsider your decision. And above all things to have Diane Dimond as your commentator. Diane Dimond is nothing but a tabloid reporter and a bad one at that. She has trouble distinguishing her own personal beliefs and opinions from actual fact. She has no business covering anything Michael Jackson. Diane Dimond built her career out of trying to destroy Michael Jackson, going as far as fabricating evidence. Michael Jackson brought a law suit against Diane Dimond for slander and won. She always brings up her tabloid trash book, Which is so bad, dehumanizing, biased, and full of disgusting lies that it only has a two star rating on amazon. She will put Michael Jackson on trial, instead of Conrad Murray. And of course, she will constantly bring up the 2005 trial to which, she always bases her opinions on people who were proven to have perjured themselves. She will even dismiss autopsy report and medical facts. Not to mention, She had and still has a vendetta against Michael Jackson, "If someone calls me in another ten years and someone tells me they're going to raid whatever house he lives in then, I am there."- Diane Dimond. I actually warn you CBS that Diane Dimond will not get you ratings or money. People, Including myself will change the channel. We are tired of her, disgusting lies, abuse/bullying, cognitive dissonance and narcissism. I would suggest using fair, unbiased, journalist like Matt Semino.

Also, please do not use J. Randy Taraborrelli and Brian Oxman as a contributor or consultant either on anything pertaining to Michael Jackson. J. Randy Taraborrelli has lied about Michael Jackson's appearance and skin disorder numerous times. He also refers to Michael in a very offending and derogatory manner. How about using another contributor like Charles Thomson, or Joe Vogel? Also please stop, referring to Brian Oxman, who was fired by Thomas Mesereau from the 2005 trial. Brian Oxman has also been known to make false statements about Michael and drug use. When In-fact, Michael Jackson was not a drug addict or an alcoholic, all one has to due is look this truth up in the autopsy report. Brian Oxman is also an unethical lawyer, who was involved in an eight year long scheme, according to the Star Bar of California's filing, to hijack another client's estate worth more than $500,000. He has since been suspended. If you want someone to speak for Michael, please refer to Michael Jackson's appropriate representation his attorney Thomas Mesereau. Thank You for your time. I hope you 'make that change' and stop, the bullying/abuse of Michael Jackson and his legacy and give him the appropriate media representation, this great artistic genius deserves.

Dear CBS,
I want to warn you if you use Diane Diamond as your mouth piece for the Conrad Murray trail. Your viewship will go way down. As it is a well known fact that Ms. Diamond does not state facts but her own beliefs. She will not be fair or unbiased. Her commentary is more like if she is working for News of the World. I suggest that you would pick someone with intelligents and can provide us with facts not speculation. I would like to see someone like Mr. Matt Semino. What I look for in a news source is one that provides me with facts and intelligent remarks. If I wanted to get tabloid trash I would go and watch TMZ.

Thank you,

Josephine

I as well as everyone else was very disappointed to hear that CBS had agreed to let Diane Diamond be a consultant during the Conrad Murray case. The decision show a lack of sound judgment. I understand that this has more to do with ratings than real journalism, something Ms.Diamond would have no earthly idea about. CBS has been third with their news programs for some time and this is just a ploy for ratings. Why not get someone who will rub everyone the wrong way and stir up a lot of sensationalism? The same lies that have been told by this woman will be brought up once again. Ms. Diamond was sued by Mr. Jackson back in the '90s and she has held an unending grudge against him every since. As if Mr. Jackson committed some crime by suing her for reporting lies. This woman is desperate to be legitimate. I'm so sorry for her. She will never be considered a "real" journalist and CBS has assured itself to remain at the bottom of the ratings. There are enough real journalists out there who could do a better job. She has shown in the past that her reporting can be mean spirited and just plain old false when it comes to Mr. Jackson. I hope CBS reconsiders their decision, but I feat that the desperation for ratings will continue to cloud their minds and their common sense.
