New York Assembly passes gay marriage bill

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York's Democrat-led Assembly has passed a bill to legalize gay marriage and a critical vote by the state Senate could take place this week if that chamber's Republican majority brings the measure to the floor.

Assemblyman Charles Lavine of Long Island said Wednesday he believes his chamber's approval of gay marriage means that somewhere America's founding fathers "have smiles on their faces."

But Assemblyman Dov Hikind of Brooklyn said gay marriage is wrong in the eyes of God.

Gay marriage is legal in Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and Washington, D.C. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has shepherded the bill in New York.

Meanwhile, a federal judge on Tuesday upheld a gay judge's ruling that struck down California's same-sex marriage ban, saying his fellow jurist was under no obligation to disqualify himself simply because he was in a long-term relationship with another man.

In a 19-page decision responding to the first attempt in the nation to disqualify a judge because of his sexual orientation, Chief U.S. District Judge James Ware said former Chief Judge Vaughn Walker had no obligation to divulge whether he wanted to marry his same-sex partner before he declared last year that voter-approved Proposition 8 was unconstitutional.

Gay individuals are hurting people that hurt people. They molest children because they were molested and to give them freedoms to be wrong in their actions is not the answer they need counseling because their mental state has been compromised. They clearly see that they are men yet they put on women's wigs and clothing we see that something is terribly wrong with this picture. To accept this way is outrageous. They are individuals in need of help and instead of offering them the help they need you would rather leave them as they are corrupting society with their wrong stand points.
No to gay marriage because it is wrong God created male and female to multiply and replenish the earth.
Homosexuals and lesbians have deviated from the right way the Bible says in Romans chapter 1 men with men working that which is unseeming and receiving in themselves the recompense of their error which is meet and that is AIDS this is the true reality every gay person I know have AIDS they ask for prayer to be healed but do not want to let go of that sinful lifestyle (think people think) and shame on you for ever even thinking it's O.K. you do not want your daughter having sex with another female and you do not want your sons sleeping with males ..

Dr. Charles Socarides was a mega-QUACK if ever there was one.

This so-called "moral" doctor was married 4 times and himself had a gay son. His position on homosexuality was discredited by nearly every one of his fellow doctors. He may well have been a closet case unable to accept who he really was (did I mention his 4 marriages?).

The "good" doctor is dead now, and most of his badly outdated and wholly inaccurate positions belong 6 feet below with him...

Dr. Charles Socarides was a psychiatrist and a psychoanalyst. He "bucked the system' by claiming that homosexuality was a curable neurosis. He passed on a number of years ago. He represented one opinion. I've worked in the mental health field for the passed 46 years. I can tell you that homosexuality is in no way considered a psychiatric disorder. It's not even considered a symptom in and of itself. Dr. Socarides may have had an opinion but it was nothing more than that. This article is about the right for people's pursuit of happiness not about what's Normal in any one person's opinion.

The rights of citizens cannot be denied. Homosexuality has been a "right" since 1973 when the Association of Psychiatry voted that homosexuality was NOT a symptom of a mental disorder and was, therefore, deleted from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. In 1975, the American Psychological Association followed suit, and determined that homosexuality was not a psychological disorder.

It has been almost 40 years for the legislative bodies of the United States and the majority of States themselves, to follow the scientific and medical communities' professional opinions vis a vis homosexuality.

It is indeed a tragedy of major proportions, and likely illegal under the Constitution of the Federal Government and most State Governments, to disregard the scientific findings of both the Psychiatric Board and the Psychological Board, especially heinous because of the almost 40 year gap between the findings that homosexuality is not a mental disorder and, therefore, cannot be considered a "crime" under any law. However, the legislative bodies as well as the governorships, have not used the scientific method to arrive at legal standards in which the professional standard is used. Indeed, it is the bigotry, ignorance, and the majority of the populace that is being used to deny unalienable rights to this segment of the population.

The Founding Fathers of our country knew that the simple majority, without the checks and balances, cannot nor should rule the laws of the country. It's about time that most Americans figure this out.

Our country was founded during the Age of Reason, not the Age of Religiosity. That's one of the reasons that the U.S. has become the dominant player on the world stage. If we allow ourselves to devolve into a religious theocracy rather than a republican democracy, that will be the end of our benign dominance on the world stage. That would be the very last thing that our Founding Fathers would have imagined or have wanted.
