Beheadings increase in Saudi Arabia

CAIRO - Amnesty International is condemning what it says is a sharp rise in beheadings in Saudi Arabia and is urging authorities in the kingdom to halt executions.

Amnesty said in a Friday statement that the kingdom has executed at least 27 people this year. That's equal to the total number put to death in all of 2010.

At least five of those executed this year were foreign nationals.

The rights group says more than 100 others are on death row. Many of them are foreigners.

The group highlighted the case of two brothers sentenced to death in 1998 for murder and at "imminent risk of execution." Amnesty says they had no access to lawyers.

"However strongly the Saudi Arabian authorities support the death penalty, they must at least recognize that no one should be executed after such problematic legal proceedings and commute their death sentences," said Philip Luther, Amnesty International's Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed - usually with a sword.

If 27 criminals beheaded in Saudi Arabia in a year, it means the total number of murder and rape in Saudi Arabia only 27 per year.

There are more than 16,000 murders and 90,000 rapes in US every year. Total 106,000 crimes. Compared to 27 crimes in Saudi Arabia, then Saudi Arabia with the severe crime more peacefull for peacefull citizens don't you think?

For comparison, the population of Saudi Arabia = 27 million people while US =300 million people.

CRIME AND SOCIETY

INCIDENCE OF CRIME

The crime rate in Saudi Arabia is very low compared to more industrialized countries. An analysis was done using INTERPOL data for Saudi Arabia. For purpose of comparison, data were drawn for the seven offenses used to compute the United States FBI's index of crime. Index offenses include murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. The combined total of these offenses constitutes the Index used for trend calculation purposes. Saudi Arabia will be compared with Japan (country with a low crime rate) and USA (country with a high crime rate). According to the INTERPOL data, for murder, the rate in 2000 was 0.71 per 100,000 population for Saudi Arabia, 1.10 for Japan, and 5.51 for USA. For rape, the rate in 2000 was 0.14 for Saudi Arabia, compared with 1.78 for Japan and 32.05 for USA. For robbery, the rate in 2000 was 0.14 for Saudi Arabia, 4.08 for Japan, and 144.92 for USA. For aggravated assault, the rate in 2000 was 0.12 for Saudi Arabia, 23.78 for Japan, and 323.62 for USA. For burglary, the rate in 2000 was 0.05 for Saudi Arabia, 233.60 for Japan, and 728.42 for USA. The rate of larceny for 2000 was 79.71 for Saudi Arabia, 1401.26 for Japan, and 2475.27 for USA. The rate for motor vehicle theft in 2000 was 76.25 for Saudi Arabia, compared with 44.28 for Japan and 414.17 for USA. The rate for all index offenses combined was 157.12 for Saudi Arabia, compared with 1709.88 for Japan and 4123.97 for USA

Given that the Saudi courts may be convicting innocent men and women, I would hardly refer to these beheadings as "swift justice". Perhaps not "justice" at all.

Not as long as there are those of us who exercise our 2nd Amendment rights. It'd be just like some stupid 3rd world 7th century-minded idiot to bring a sword to a gun fight. As the ranch hand said to the muslim scholar, "We haven't played Cowboys and Muslims yet, but I do believe it's a-comin'".

We scream for swifter justice. We complain that death row inmates get 25 years years of appeals. The Saudis don't have that problem. Justice is swift, little time is wasted on appeals, and the punishment is permanent. The recidivism rate must be very small.

What a goofy world we live in.

Isn't it nice to know that the U.S. Military Industrial Complex sells this country, Saudi Arabia, billions of dollars of military weapons.

Isn't it weird that we invaded Iraq considering all of the 9/11 terrorist were Saudi Arabians except one.

Isn't it funny also that we continue to sell these psycho nut cases arms when the head of Al-Qaeda, Bin Laden, was from one of the country's most wealthy and influencial families.

We are our own worst enemies in America.

Part of the Military Industrial Complex is to keep threats alive so they can continue to sell arms all over the world. Peace would mean the end of arms manufacturing as we know it. That's lots of taxpayer $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Take 2 minutes and 30 seconds to watch President Eisenhowers warning about the Military Industrial Complex in his farewell speech Jan. 17th 1961.

They have it and we want it so we can go and take it? So colonial of you, we may be dependent (note spelling) on it - but does that make killing for it and making excuses about why we do it right? You would have fit right in with the colonial British.

Aren't there any civilized leaders in the Middle East.

Apparently they are all barbarians justifying their way of life by claiming it is part of their religion.

According to statistics, a relatively small portion of oil imported into the US comes from these countries.

Cut them off.!

Stop buying oil from these countries and let them kill one another.

Saudis don't want any interference in the way their leaders operate, but they screamed Help! Help! when Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait.

The US respondedimmediately and had Americans in Kuwait for at least two years putting out the oil fires.

Troops were also stationed in Saudi Arabia, and if I am not mistaken they still are, to prevent another invasion.

Ask any military personnel how they are treated by the Saudis.

When they leave thei base, they are spit on, called infidel dogs and must follow the laws of the country.

Female personnel are not allowed off base without a male escort and must wear scarves over their heads or they can be detained.

It's hot as hell in Arabia, but American women are forbidden to show any skin other than their face and hands.

Immigrants from these countries come to the US and want to continue to follow the laws of their country and religion.

"Honor" killings happen all the time, but you rarely hear about.

Once established in the US these people want us to change our way of living, to remove God from our currency and stamps (they have already succeded with the stamps, change our traditional holiday greetings and displays etc. because they are offended by them.

If the Saudis don't want any interference with their way of life; as far as I'm concerned, they do not have the right to come to this country and ask for "politically correct" changes to our way of life because our ways and traditions offend them.

They can be offended till the day they die for all I care.

As an American citizen, I am offended by their very presence here
when they start trying to take over the US.

"Yankee go home" was once a popular expression.

Now we need an expression "Arab go home" if you object to our way of life and traditions.

I doubt anyone will miss you.
