Harold Camping doomsday prediction record: 0-2

In the waning hours of May 21st, there was no sign yet that a much-ballyhooed end-times prophecy is coming true.

CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy, on the doomsday watch, reports that there have been, and probably always will be, many predictions about when the world will end.

Hollywood has been obsessed with the end of days for decades. Mankind has struggled with the implications for centuries. Some claim to have seen the signs. Others worry they don't even have the time to think about it.

You may have seen one of the 1,200 billboards that are the work of one man: 89-year-old Christian preacher Harold Camping, owner of the Family Radio Network.

"You and I are living at the time of the end of the world," Camping said recently.

His followers have spread the word of the world's end all across the globe, using donations to pay for it.

"There's going to be a big earthquake that will make the one in Japan seem like a Sunday school picnic," Camping said.

He says it will first strike Fiji and New Zealand, then work its way around the world. But it appears to be late. By Camping's own estimates, it should have hit there already, and it certainly has not.

Camping arrived at Saturday's date using a complicated mathematical formula based on biblical numbers, but he still has gathered a host of doubters.

"It doesn't say anything about the Bible. It says a lot about their imagination," said Rev. Michael Seiler with St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. "I just think it's a bunch of - baloney."

The Mayan calendar famously calls for the end next year. The Bible itself is pretty clear on this: Matthew 24:36 says, "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

As for Harold Camping, he previously said the world would end in 1994. It appears he is now 0 for 2.

nine7one...you missed my point. and i can't understand your point either. the point is a new heaven really meant a new heavenly central government under God. i do not mean about matterial things. many unexperienced christians lack the knowledge of the truth and often be fooled by false teachers.but first i want you to know that i'm not a christian. i'm buddhish. we do study christianity. some agreed some don't. as far as i had studied, rapture is a false doc. the bible really a book that implied a new type of human government under whom jesus is an elected governor right here upon our planet earth. and, the heaven realm of God become a new heaven( another form of federal government with God is the President and jesus as vice president).it unlike what we are seeing upon earth because it should be a sinless kingdom or a perfect kingdom in the other word.there are still both good and bad people, but because it under christ, so there might not be any kind of human conflict around.however,when this will happen, none of us knew.but, we do know that some great trouble times and great test of faith are coming.China is the last beast according to the book of revelation,and,WW3 probably will follow which might result of the collapse or discontinue of the United Nations according to the book of revelation.( i might wrong to this point).and,the great great final test of faith is the battle of armageddon.unlike to any past human conflict, it is a direct insult against the Almighty. because it is Satan's last attempt to resist the coming power of the christ.He will deceive many politicians of many human governments and blindly joining his secret plot, and,we are the victims who will be enforced probably under " national order",in which hard to disobey. i will hold on on this armageddon matter,it not the right time to reveal the truth of what armageddon really is.Being a Buddhish, i do know Buddha is not God, and we do know there is a God in heaven,and jesus is another transformed Buddha.So we do respect him.we take his seriously with precaustion.i know people might agree or disagree for this our belief. it is okay. we do agreed disagreed.PEW! at least there were not 200 millions people on the missing list of American Most Wanted after the rapture.Harold Camping is a fool. i feel sorry for people who gave up all they had ready for the rapture,but didn't.Luckily,I'm a Buddhish.
