Gingrich showered with glitter by protester

MINNEAPOLIS - GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich and his wife Callista were hit with glittery confetti by a protester Tuesday during the couple's appearance at a book-signing.

The man approached the Gingriches during the signing at a downtown Minneapolis hotel, dumped a cracker box full of colorful confetti on the pair and said, "Feel the rainbow, Newt! Stop the hate! Stop anti-gay politics!"

Two Associated Press reporters witnessed the event. The man was quickly pushed out of the room by an event organizer as the Gingriches brushed confetti out of their hair and laps.

Newt Gingrich smiled as he brushed confetti off the table, and said, "Nice to live in a free country."

Although authorities couldn't immediately confirm the man's identity, he appeared to be Nick Espinosa, a prankster who has disrupted at least two other political events in Minnesota, including one in which he dumped a bagful of pennies in the lap of a Republican candidate for governor last year. In that prank, Espinosa — who has also used the name Robert Erickson — told reporters he was trying to highlight immigration issues.

Espinosa emailed reporters later Tuesday and attached pictures of the confetti attack. He said it was a protest against a proposal to amend Minnesota's Constitution to ban gay marriage.

Newt Gingrich confronted over Paul Ryan comments

Newt Gingrich was due to give a speech at the event sponsored by the Minnesota Family Council later in the evening. It's just the latest in a string of problems for Gingrich and top Republicans are now saying his campaign is in jeopardy, reports CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford.

It started with his appearance on a Sunday talk show. He was rolling out his presidential campaign when he suddenly took aim at Republicans, specifically Congressman Paul Ryan's budget plan.

"I don't think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering," Gingrich said. "I don't think imposing radical change from the right or the left is a very good way for a free society to operate."

Leading conservatives went ballistic, saying Gingrich had hurt the party and all of those Republicans who were supporting the Ryan plan.

There was also embarrassing news on Tuesday for Gingrich that came from his wife's financial disclosure form, which revealed that they recently had owed American Express between $15,000 and $50,000 dollars. He also owed between $250,000 and $500,000 dollars to upscale jewelry story Tiffany's - not a good message when voters care most about the economy and how they are going to make ends meet.

it is incredible, how warped and twisted your view of things are.

They ask, not take, money from the people for the upkeep of the church buildings, schools, programs, foreign missions and charitable works......helping the homeless, pregnant mothers, the poor, poor in other countries....the list goes on and on.

But in your warped atheist view, they are Tony Saprano, committing racketeering.......if it wasn't so sick, it would be comical.

How do they "help the homeless"?

The homeless shelters aren't ran by the churches, nor are the soup kitchens.

How do they "help pregnant women"?

By protesting planned parenthood so that women are forced to carry unwanted children to term?

I've heard the stories of the women being raped overseas by the "missionaries", but I'd be absolutely delighted to hear about these "programs and charitable works" that you claim exist.

nevermind.

Now churches are Bernie Madoff and Tony Soprano.

Have you ever stepped foot in a church or inquire about what goes on in a parish ? or did the walls weep blood, and the crosses flipped upside down, when you entered ?

Yes I have, and I've ALWAYS heard these claims of "helping the community", yet I NEVER see any of these alleged donations or charitable events.

Hint: TAKING MONEY FROM THEIR PARISHIONERS in exchange for "eternal salvation", is NOT helping their community, anymore than paying Tony Soprano to prevent him from having your legs broken is.

Or are you considering all of the bribes to the victims of the rapist priests, to be "charitable donations to the needy"?

I am a Christian and I think churches should be taxed for everything except charitible services -- especially any church that ever makes a political contribution or espouses political opinion.

Why in the world would they remove tax exemptions from churches ? Churches are non-profit charities, that help people in need......wow, your atheism is extreme.

Just wait, the larger painful cuts are coming shortly.....but if these tiny cuts create such crying by the democrats, they don't have the stomach to do what's necessary to get things in order.....they just don't.

If they're "non-profit entities", then so is Bernie Madoff and Tony Soprano. It's NOTHING but a ponzi scheme where the money is funneled to the top.

The "larger painful cuts are coming"? You mean gutting grandma and grandpa Medicare isn't enough, and they're going to cut even more?

Why is that - do the rich need MORE tax breaks?

Hmm so your saying the 80% are not to unions?

I asked YOU to back up YOUR CLAIM that the ENTIRE 80% went to unions.

Your first claim about the 20% going to Pelosi was VERY EASILY debunked, so I'm sure this will be too. So here we go:

http://www.hhs.gov/ociio/regulations/approved_applications_for_waiver.html

Of all the waivers granted to date:

Employment-Based Coverage: The vast majority - 712 plans representing 97 percent of all waivers - were granted to health plans that are employment-related.

Well THAT was certainly easy, now wasn't it? It took me all of 10 seconds to google it and click on the first link that came up.

But by ALL MEANS, keeping guessing and lying. Why let facts slow you down now?

Get back to me, when unemployment is around 4.5 %, like it was in May 2007.

Then you might be able to say, things have improved.....without everyone in America saying...."yeah, where have they improved"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that 4.5% rate AFTER the Bush regime started counting 30 hours per week as "full time employed", even though they're really "part time"?

That was the same directive that had the DOL start counting burger flippers at Burger King as "production workers", wasn't it?

stop devauling the dollar, and inflation will go down, so there is a direct connection to the monetary policy of this Administration.

The value of the dollar dropped like a rock under the Bush regime, when compared to other currencies, and that's how they artificially kept inflation low.

Fact check it: the dollar is worth MUCH LESS now than it was in 2001, when compared to the Canadian dollar, the Euro, the Peso, and especially China's Yuan.

What cuts ? you failed to notice your party crying about the smallest cut in spending, that has been introduced by Republicans ??

You seem to prefer the "status quo" and have the systems (Medicare/SS) fall by the wasteside......I understand, that getting elected is MORE important, and bashing republicans is what's important to your party, then having the courage to fix what's broken......I get it......just like the Iraq war, where getting elected and undermining the war, was more important than winning it......It's effective, to say the least.

AGAIN: what "cuts"?

They haven't proposed ANYTHING except for "cuts" to ideologically opposed ideas. Cutting funding for planned parenthood for one.

They won't touch defense or other departments that they use to funnel BILLIONS to their districts, but they ARE going after ideologically opposed policies.

I don't see them attempting to repeal tax exemptions from churches, do you?

Dimwit the other 80% are going to die hard democrat union members who also supported the healthcare plan but will never have to join along with democrat politicians who voted for it.

Oh and filthy rich "Liberal" Pelosi can simply nullify their city law and JOIN the big socialist orgasmitron obamacare plan.

Why not? Cuz it sucks and everyone knows it, LOL Where can I waver me? Simple just move to a fat cat democrat district.

You have a source for this 80%, or is this just another guess as to what's really happening?

Since when do members of congress have the unilateral ability to nullify existing law - on ANY level - federal, state, local, etc?

You certainly DO NOT need the waiver. You apparently need ALL THE HELP YOU CAN GET!! Especially "mental help"!!

The waivers are all temporary. They are necessary because it is difficult to make one level playing field in this diverse country. Playing politics with people's ability to receive health care is despicible, louiville. You do need some sort of healing and I don't think a doctor can give it.
