Schieffer: W.H. praying Trump, Palin get GOP nom

The Republicans may have to tackle a different kind of deficit problem heading into the 2012 campaign season, with the field of prospective candidates generating a notable lack of excitement among potential voters, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll.

The poll shows 56 percent of Americans are unmoved by the current crop of hopefuls.

Poll: GOP's 2012 contenders unknown, unloved

"Face the Nation" moderator Bob Schieffer comments on the lack of GOP excitement, the continuing influence of the Tea Party and why, at this stage of the election cycle, the White House is praying that Donald Trump or Sarah Palin wins the Republican nomination.

"Birther" claims force GOP leaders to take a stand.
They better start realizing that the "birther" thing is NO conspiracy either. Ten's of millions of GOP voters will turn their back on the party unless they challenge Obama on his Birth Certificate and stolen SSN#, SHARE THIS ON FACEBOOK WITH YOUR FRIENDS, DEMAND THE GOP TAKE ACTION NOW OR LOSE YOUR VOTE... GROW SOME BALLS!!!!

Then tens of millions of GOP voters are either bigots, ignoramuses or seriously mentally ill - or combinations of the above. It simply does not matter to them that the facts have been presented and have been verified by Hawaii. They will never accept a black man as President of the United States. That is how sick this country is. And the rest of the world is appalled at us.

Praying? That's a lie! Democrats don't believe in God, have no morals, support abortions (killing of babiies) Gays, and convicts. So praying, I think not. Obama never praid in Iran as a child.

S & P downgrade? Who cares. gold and silver screaming "give us something safe, anything". Today's, Obama moment of unadulterated idiocy, Obama asked his Attorney General (Oxymoron title for holder) to ivestigate oil speculators! Hmm, as Tyler DUrden says "Number of mentions of the one true satanic culprit for oil price explosion? Zero. For everything else there is scapegoating. And again. And again."
It's really not "birthers" as it is "Who-thers". That is , O.K. we were fixed up on a blind date by our Auntie MSM, she said he was such a nice guy, handsome, erudite, full of hopium, Trust me. Alright, now we have met, & nothing seems quite as it really is, Auntie, and you keep telling me to ignore the red flags, there's something wrong with those "clingers" , he's really the Bees Knees. Well, it seems Auntie MSM was a little too invested in the blind date and didn't really want to know all that much. Well, you see he has such a nice smile. Now, the date seems to be from Missouri and says to Auntie "show me". I'm a "Who'ther", as in Who is this guy? Why does he use a Connecticut social security card? Why is it that "just a guy in the neighborhood" most likely wrote his autobiography? Why did he get so many campaign donations from Gaza and the West Bank? Please let me know FEC. Why did his personal attorney Bob Cole replace the previous White House council, and Mr Cole's firm has been paid over 2 million dollars to prevent release if vital records? "Birther," not so much, just a "Who'ther", you know marriage can be such a destructive institution when masks are worn.

Barack Obama's better than either of those two, but that being said, he's really in over his head with the issues on the table - he's really not an outside the box thinker capable of bringing novel solutions to bear on complex problems, the way he made himself out to be when he campaigned.

I think the media loses points when the pick on the folly of the clowns on the right, without taking the time to point out the shortcomings on the left ... especially since it's the shortcomings on the left (because they're in power) that are giving rise to peoples desperation for somebody new on the right ... anybody ...

Short comings on the left? You seem to suffer from the right wing memory challenge that ails republicans. Republican delusional economic policies are the reason we are in this financial mess. That is the very defition of "short comings". Anyone on the right will try to put us right back like we were when this mess got started. They want to let banks and corporations go right back to the "business as usual" which typifies the way republicans do business.

Donald Trump is a Barrack Obama supporter. When Obama won the Presidency he was full of praise for him. He was also very strongly in favor of a single-payer health care system. Not only that but he was a strong supporter of gay rights and gay marriage. He made it very clear that he thought that Bush was a fool. Now he is creating havoc in the GOP. He is totally taking all of the limelight and having a disintegrating effect on the Republican base. If he does run and debates Romney and other Republican contenders he will make a mockery of the Republican primaries. He must be doing all of this as a way to insure that President Obama will have a second term. He may even have enough influence to make it possible for the Democrats to win back the House and strengthen their hold on the Senate. He is a Democrat dream and the Republican nightmare.

You may have a point there. In any case, Trump is a Republican nightmare, as is Palin. But I don't think there is a Republican contender or would-be contender who can beat Obama anyway. There's a lot of mob emotion so to speak right now, but come time to vote, I don't see the current crop of Republicans inspiring mainstream Republicans or Independents.

Of course I hope this is true, but I agree with you... I doubt the WH is "praying" Palin and Trump get the nomination. They've got better things to do.

Let's remember that Craig Ferguson needs new material every day and a Trump/Palin ticket would supply months of interesting comedy. Come to think of it, Ferguson would make a better candidate than any Republican I can think of.

Seriously, the Republicans have not mentioned anyone of value so far. My guess it that they are holding back so their followers don't have time to think about their real choice in 2012.
