this is a complete lie, an intentional lie. ny times/cbs news should be

called out on this garbage. amazing dishonesty and liberal activism.
rush also says the nytimes sent out alerts last nite to highlight this
garbage. Every american should be outraged that supposed honest media is actually completely fixing polls to taint and lie to fit an agenda.

I think the question of whether a person "either works for a union or is related directly to someone working for a union" should have been asked. After all, it's only logical that a person affiliated directly w/ someone whose benefits may be changed is going to be "for unions." Personally, I worked in the private sector...I only have a 401k and PAY INTO MY RETIREES' MEDICAL for myself and separately for my husband.
I agree that the union packages have to be reigned in...they're out of control...ALL PUBLIC union pkgs., that is.
I also think the rich should have to pay more for taxes though.
I also think COLA's should be given to either...a person's social security OR their pension...but NOT BOTH.
I agree w/ the person who said only one pension payout for peo. who worked for more than one government job.
How come I never get called to be polled?

This poll was taken of 984 adults by random calling - both land and cell lines. With a poll like this, you could be sampling the same person twice (cell and land) - however, it is unlikely. The number don't tell where the majority of the people were living. Most could have been from a strong union area. Below is another poll:

Rasmussen poll: Feb 25, 2011:
"Thirty-seven percent (37%) say, in terms of its impact on the nation, it's a good thing that most teachers belong to public employee unions. Forty-six percent (46%) disagree and say it's a bad thing that most teachers are unionized. Seventeen percent (17%) are not sure."

The CBS poll is not the whole story. Most people are for teachers. However more Americans believe that teacher public unions are NOT good for the nation, than those who do.

I THINK AVERAGE JOE CITIZEN UNDERSTANDS WE HAVE GOVERNMENT BUDGET ISSUE.

THE PROBLEM EVOLVES WHEN WE DIFFER ON HOW TO APPROACH IT. PROBABLY MANY WAYS...CUTTING PUBLIC EMPLOYEES BENEFITS IS ONLY ONE PART OF THE WHOLE.

ANOTHER CRUCIAL PART IS INCREASING TAXES ON THE TOP 1%. NO LONGER ALLOW CONGRESS TO VOTE THEIR OWN RAISES, ABSURD, BUT TRUE. NOT ALLOW MORE THAN ONE GOVERNMENT PENSION TO BE COLLECTED BY ONE INDIVIDUAL. MANY MORE WRONGS ARE BEING COMMITTED EVERYDAY, BUT I'M TIRED.

HOW WERE THE DEMAGRAPHIC AREAS PICKED FOR THIS POLL ,MOST PEOPLE I SPEAK TO THINK WE HAVE A HUGE GOVERMENT DEHT PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED WITH BUDGET CUTS. THATS WHAT WE HAVE TO DO IN OUR HOUSEHOLDS , THATS WHAT WE HAVE HAD TO DO IN OUR BUISNESSES .THE MAJORITY OF WORKERS IN THE USA PRIVATE SECTOR DO NOT HAVE A PENSION OR HEALTH CARE SUPPLEMT TO RETIRE WITH ,WE HAVE 401K PLANS THAT COME NO WHERE CLOSE TO THE NEEDS WE WILL HAVE DURING RETIERMENT AND THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THEM ARE GREAT(THE SPX VALUE IS LESS NOW THEN IT WAS 11 YEARS AGO IN 2000).YOU CANNOT EXPECT THE AVERAGE PERSON IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO KEEP SUPPORTING AN INSTITUTION (GOVERMENT )THAT HAS BEEN IRRISPONSIBLE WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS .MOST OF US TOOK A BIG FINANCIAL HIT IN 08 WHICH WE WILL NOT RECOVER FROM INTO RETIERMENT (THOSE OF US OVER 50 ) THE FED IS DILUTING THE DOLLAR (QE2)WHICH WILL CAUSE INFLATION. YOU CANNOT EXPECT THE PRIVATE SECTOR TAX PAYER TO PICK UP THE TAB ANYMORE IT WILL CAUSE MORE ANGER AND RESENTMENT

There is also one important question the pollsters failed to ask. This question is even more important and indicative than the respondents' political affiliations. The question they need to ask to categorize the responses is..."Do you or anyone in your household work for a government at any level?" I would not be surprised to find that 50% or more of those they contacted actually work for some form of government. It would be natural for anyone who receives their bread and butter from the sweat of the taxpayers' efforts to support tax increases over any reduction in pay or benefits for their brethren public workers...after all they could be next. There have also been polls done that show public workers receive higher pay and better benefits on average than their private sector counterparts. What people do not realize is that we have a public sector pandemic. By this I mean that we have reached the tipping point of what the private sector can support and there is no stemming the growth at this point because it is highly possible that the public sector (all levels from local, county, state, to federal) now represents between 1/3 and 2/5 of all jobs if not more (yes it's my speculation, anecdotal to be sure). I'd like to see some real numbers generated regarding this situation. What people likewise fail to realize is that government workers contribute nothing to the tax base in reality. What is listed on their pay stubs as taxes withheld merely represents a small savings to the real taxpayers (the private sector employees) in the form of government money not spent on their salaries. Another viable question to ask is whether the private sector workers polled primarily do work on government projects...while this is an improvement over direct public employ, it still costs tax dollars and government is still the ultimate source of the income. We really need to just return to our beloved Constitution and get rid of 95% of all government. It was never meant to be this way because our founding fathers understood that large governments are by nature corrupt and create an elite political class of people.
