Powell Demands Answers over WMD Informant's Lies

Colin Powell has called on the CIA and Pentagon to explain why they failed to notify him of unreliability of a key source who claimed knowledge of Saddam Hussein's bio-weapons capability, reports The Guardian.

U.S. secretary of state during the Iraq invasion, Powell said U.S. agencies involved in compiling case for the war should be questioned in response to the newspaper's revelation that the source, Rafid Ahmed al-Janabi or "Curveball" as his handlers called him, admitted to fabricating evidence of Iraq's secret weapons of mass destruction program.

"It has been known for several years that the source called Curveball was totally unreliable," Powell told the Guardian . "The question should be put to the CIA and the DIA as to why this wasn't known before the false information was put into the NIE sent to Congress, the president's state of the union address and my 5 February presentation to the UN."

Al-Janabi told the Guardian "it's great" Powell is demanding that the agencies should be questioned. He also thinks people should know the truth.

Then CIA head, George Tenet put a statement on his website in response to the admission, saying, " The handling of this matter is certainly a textbook case of how not to deal with defector provided material. But the latest reporting of the subject repeats and amplifies a great deal of misinformation."

I don't see where "being lied to and misled" can be construed as being "naive and gullible".

If he was lied to many times by these people, and repeatedly fell for the same lies over and over again, then your claim would have merit.

One doesn't need to meet Lindsay Lohan in order to figure out that she's a pretty messed up chick, just as you didn't have to meet Bush in order to form an opinion about Bush's leadership ability. I'm not sure strawman applies, but it's close.







Well if you watch the news and see video of Lindsay Lohan being arrested for something, then you can form your own opinion.

Bush led us into two wars, allowed 9/11 to happen on his watch, allowed big business to write their own rules which sent the economy into a death spiral, and then sat idly by waiting for the "market to correct itself" as our economy was in dire needs. His "leadership" is questioned by the results that we were - and still are - forced to deal with.

Under Obama several "attacks" have been thwarted, the wars finally have an end in sight, the recession is over, unemployment is falling, and the overall economy is improving.

I'd say that we are much better under Obama's "leadership" than we were under Bush's, and just because Mort heard Limbaugh say it, doesn't necessarily mean it's true. And THAT is why I called him out on it.

I thik that powell is honorable and loyal to a fault. He thought that it was unthinkable that Bush's staff would play him for a fool and set him up in a way that would seriously damage his repuatation. I suspect that the cabal running the iraq war knew that he was being briefed with false information, He was bascally setup to communacate phoney information so that a group of necon chickenhawks could start a war. His failure was in being too trusting. He made the eroor of assuming that Bushes National Security staff would never mislead him. Not only did they mislead him; they lied to them and helped start an unecessary war. A special prosecutor should be considered for Doug fieth and the rest of those who minipulated the country into going to war

Its like putting a private just into the Army in as commanding general. How in the world do we know he can lead?

Obama has shown that he is uncomfortable leading. Being in the military for 21 years, it becomes very evident who has trouble leading and who doesnt.
