BEIJING - China has blocked the word "Egypt" from the country's wildly popular Twitter-like service, while coverage of the political turmoil has been tightly restricted in state media.

China's ruling Communist Party is sensitive to any potential source of social unrest.

Real-Time Updates on Twitter: #Egypt

A search for "Egypt" on the Sina microblogging service brings up a message saying, "According to relevant laws, regulations and policies, the search results are not shown." The service has more than 50 million users.

News on the Egypt protests has been limited to a few paragraphs and photos buried inside major news websites, but China Central Television had a report on its midday broadcast.

China's Foreign Ministry did not respond to a request for comment Saturday on the events in Egypt.

Sorry curse914. The bill to presidential control of the internet was put fort by Rep Joe Lieberman and Senator Susan Collins. These two fall into that "libz" category I'm afraid. Now, take your foot out of your mouth and turn off you're computer. You obviously have no idea how to use it.

How far the right has fallen. So an independent and a Republican are "libz?" Yes, and Jesus was a liberal in comparison to the Pharisees and that is why they oked his crucifixion.

True China does have a long history of killing free thinkers however if Bankers in China had created a world bankruptcy Bankers would find themselves in prison or come to an abrupt end.

Are you making a case for a totalitarian society; how neo-conservative of you. There are risks that come with a free society.

China has long been known for controlling what forms of media and telecommunications its citizens have access to. Mumbarak in Egypt did the same thing. Interestingly enough, our president complained about what Egypt did, while not saying anything about China, all the while hoping to get more egregious control of our Internet on a whim or perceived threat. Our president wanting this much control exceeds anything former President Bush wanted.

Oh, another fella who thinks it was "libz" who proposed the bill to create an internet "kill switch." Sorry Charlie, it was the usual dogmatic authoritarians who proposed such a bill.

The governemt of China is very thin skinned on any issues that are political in nature especially when it comes to freedom & democracy. The government fears it's own people & what it's own people might do if China becomes the next Egypt for social and economic reforms. Rise up people of China as Egypt has and know that your government continues to hold you captive as slaves for the communist regime in Beijing.

"China's ruling Communist Party is sensitive to any potential source of social unrest"

-------------------

Translation:

The leaders of China are terrified of their people knowing the truth about anything. If anyone figures out the truth, and starts spreading it around, the Global Elite would instantly cease having the power to control the masses. Truth is their biggest enemy.

Good translation. But I'm baffled why such a government is still cheered by many people living in the free world, such as the US...?

Well, Bush/Cheney had hided a lot of truth from American people too. That's another thing that baffled me ...
