Police: Missing Mich. Mom's Body Found

Friends and family held out hope that Amy Henslee, a mother of two young children missing since Monday, would be found alive, but late Thursday, her body and that of another woman were found on a property just a few miles from where Henslee disappeared, authorities say.

The property is in Bangor Township, about 60 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.

"Early Show" co-anchor Jeff Glor reports the local sheriff says both women had been shot multiple times and their bodies buried.

CBS News correspondent Cynthia Bowers reports Junior Lee Beebe, 34, a cousin of Amy Henslee's husband, James, was taken into custody and labeled a suspect.

Glor reports Beebe will be arraigned on two counts of murder today.

B.J. Beebe's uncle said, "All I know is they said they're going to take him to a warmer spot and said they that he was cooperating and that they was going to talk to him."

Henslee mysteriously vanished from her home Monday after putting her two young boys on the bus to school. Beebe reportedly showed up at her house between 9 and 9:30 -- something the authorities focused in on.

Cody Tanner, a neighbor of Beebe's, said, "It's pretty scary for something like this to happen right across the street. You know and I feel for the family. In a small town this, you just don't -- you hear it all the time, but you don't think it could happen here."

At this point, police are trying to determine a possible motive in the murder.

Bowers noted, on a Facebook page dedicated to Henslee's memory, condolence messages were left for a family preparing to say goodbye to the devoted wife and mother.

This is a very sad report, and I want to express condolences to the family and friends of Amy Henslee.

It is tragic that so many Americans, and indeed people of every nationality, are reported lost or missing around the world each year. In my opinion, more needs to be done by political leaders to assist families in locating missing people. Here are just a few measures which might be helpful in the US: (1) expand the "Amber Alert" system to also report missing endangered, disabled or senior adults; (2) fund a national database for mandatory reporting by all state and local authorities of missing persons and utilize technology to expedite this process and eliminate a lot of duplication and unnecessary costs; (3) make sure that every child attending school in the U.S. has a current photo and, with parental permission, a DNA sample on file in a computerized database in order to expedite identifying missing children (for example, if a predator snatched a child and someone eventually took the child under a different name to a clinic or to another school, the DNA sample could be used to identify the missing child immediately); (4) require the federal government, like many foreign nations, to establish a web site to post missing person notices for citizens missing overseas -- there are over 3,000 Americans missing abroad every year in nonmilitary capacities reportedly and this measure might be of great assistance. No doubt there are many other steps which may improve this situation also, but the ones listed here would hopefully help many people re-establish contact with loved ones.
