Enquirer: John Edwards, Rielle Hunter Engaged

The National Enquirer is reporting that former presidential candidate John Edwards is engaged to be married to his long-time girlfriend, but Edwards has denied the report.

"John Edwards says the story is false," a source close to the former senator told Politico.

The Enquirer claims Edwards proposed to Rielle Hunter three weeks after the death of his former wife Elizabeth, the mother of Edwards' first four children who lost her battle with breast cancer in December.

It was the Enquirer that initially exposed the affair between Edwards and Hunter.

Edwards had an affair with Hunter, who was hired to produce web videos for his 2008 presidential campaign. Edwards strongly denied the affair and, subsequently, that he fathered a child with Hunter before eventually admitting to both.

Another source close to Edwards told People Magazine that Edwards and Hunter's relationship is focused mainly on being parents to the child, Frances Quinn, who turns 3 next month.

According to the report, Edwards introduced his three surviving children to Hunter and their daughter Quinn during a holiday get-together at a North Carolina restaurant, expressing hope that they would all "become one big, happy family."

yeah, he did some nasty stuff, but, everyone deserves a second chance, and, no one knows the whole story. i'm sorry elizabeth died a horrible death, but, behind closed doors, you don't know how she was to her husband. i had heard that she talked down to him, criticized where he was from, etc. like i said before, so what? if he tries to go on w/his life w/this woman. people that are up against a wall do strange things... like denying paternity, and other stupid things... he's human like you and i.

Sorry to say that poor Elizabeth was devastated by the affair. It is my personal opinion that John & Elizabeth's young children should be in the care of their elder sister, who I am quite sure is capable of raising them for her deceased mom. I looked up to Elizabeth. She was a very courageous woman struggling with a horrendous cancer, that I too struggle with myself. I am a stage IV breast cancer patient; and my husband of "25" years has loved me "unconditionally" from the day we met. He has been to every doctor appointment, chemo treatment, and surgical procedure that I had to endure. He is my rock, my soulmate, the irrecovable love of my life. NEVER in a million years would he have ever done to me what John did to Elizabeth. It's just inexcusable!!!!

There seems to be no end to John's sickness in having his affairs validated. To expect to move her and the 'born out of wedlock surprise'
into the home Elizabeth and John built for their children seems bizarre
at best. What kind of message does this send to the youngest children of
John and Elizabeth? The oldest one at 29 has the burden to bring her
brother and sister up with some semblance of correctness and i expect her
to show them a good example rather than their father.

Imagine breakfast in the Edward's household. with Reille sitting at the
table with sunglasses on. Give me a break. Makes me sick for
Elizabeth's children and the worst case of "here's to you Elizabeth, look at me now, Love, John" !
