Free Wi-Fi Given to San Francisco Public Housing

SAN FRANCISCO - San Francisco has finished installing free Wi-Fi in its public housing facilities as part of a citywide housing improvement initiative.

Mayor Gavin Newsom and the San Francisco Housing Authority announced Tuesday that 33 developments are now equipped with wireless broadband.

Newsom says expanded Internet access will create job and educational opportunities and improve quality of life for residents.

The city has committed $95 million to overhauling infrastructure and upgrading services at its most distressed public housing facilities.

San Francisco has more than 6,500 public housing units serving very low-income families, seniors and disabled city residents.

The "best" thing society can do for the lower income folks (those who are at least able to work) is to stop outsourcing American jobs. These Americans need to get back to work rather than providing them with "free" broadband service at home or "free" anything else!

Food, clothing, shelter and medical assistance is one thing, but free broadband service? Come on man! What's next...free flat screen TV's, free Play-stations, free cars? Electronic gadgets are NOT a necessity of life. Besides, there is no "free". Somebody has to pay for it and it's usually the rapidly dwindling middle class.

These Americans don't need to be home surfing the Internet...they need to be working and productive. Then they can buy their "OWN" broadband service like the rest of us.

Nice to see the Holiday spirit is alive and well. Some of those people are disabled Vets or Elderly who lost their homes because of the Fat-Cats in Wall street who caused all these difficult economic times. Yet they are still rich and still doing unto others. Most people in those places would love to have a decent-paying job or their life-savings or 401ks back but that's not going to happen is it?
