Senate Dem Leader Drops Bloated Spending Bill

Democrats controlling the Senate have abandoned a 1,924-page catchall spending measure that's laced with homestate pet projects known as earmarks and that would have provided another $158 billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Nevada Democrat Harry Reid gave up on the nearly $1.3 trillion bill after several Republicans who had been thinking of voting for the bill pulled back their support.

GOP leader Mitch McConnell threw his weight against the bill in recent days, saying it was in his words "unbelievable" that Democrats would try to muscle through in just a few days legislation that usually takes months to debate.

Reid Wants Spending Bill Passed Despite Earmarks

McConnell had earlier quietly backed the effort to produce the nearly $1.3 trillion bill. McConnell also obtained $85 million in so-called earmarks for Kentucky.

Reid said he would work with McConnell to produce a short-term funding bill to keep the government running into early next year.

So gamblin' Harry was just bluffing and folded, unable to sneak through their (hopefully) final bid to sabotage the incoming Congress and Senate. If he would have succeeded, then the finding for Obama Hellcare would have been provided thereby preventing the new Congress from being able to prevent funding. Not to mention all the parting gifts these losers tried to scam. Ladies and Gentleman, the job is only half finished and the next election phase we need to get rid of even more of fungus that refuses to go away.

If there was ever proof of these people caring for their own self-interest more than the state of the nation, this stunt was it.

The new Congress should pass a bill ending all future lame duck sessions of Congress. When you win your in when you lose your out period end of story and it goes for both parties fair enough. I would say the only tax they should ever support for the American people is the Fair Tax.

It's about time Reid got some sense. He is the most hypocritical man in Congress.

These people are playing poker with our tax dollars. They treat it like a game, an additive game. The only way taxpayers can deal with this Congressional additive spending is by letting their money source dry up, and by cutting up the China credit card.
