Willie Nelson Charged with Pot Possession

A U.S. Border Patrol spokesman says country singer Willie Nelson was charged with marijuana possession after 6 ounces was found aboard his tour bus in Texas.

Patrol spokesman Bill Brooks says the bus pulled into the Sierra Blanca, Texas, checkpoint about 9 a.m. Friday. Brooks says an officer smelled pot when a door was opened and a search turned up marijuana.

Brooks says the Hudspeth County sheriff was contacted and Nelson was among three people arrested.

Sheriff Arvin West didn't immediately return a phone message left at his home Friday, but he told the El Paso Times that Nelson claimed the marijuana was his. The singer was held briefly a $2,500 bond before being released.

Nelson spokeswoman Elaine Schock declined to comment when contacted via e-mail by The Associated Press.

I agree they should just leave Willie alone!!!!I also lose respect for law enforcement with these stories they need to concentrate on the murderers, rapists, and cracck/cocaine/heroine the stuff that causes death!! Any citizen of the United States who has attained the age of sixty-six, 66,,shall be able to drink OR smoke whatever they choose. At that age, most will know better and handle it! Leave the nelson man alone and tell your mayor, senator and all you know this is the Aardvark way.

i a user of marijuana have used pot since i was 12, I think this gov. is wasting money trying to bring down the pot industry if they just legalized it they would actually be bring in money. Since California legalized it they have bought 12 billion dollars into their state. think how much money we would bring in if all the states did. in the 1930's hemp was the third cash crop in are country. For gosh sakes are founding father George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin all grew hemp and smoked. i say we should from a group and help LEGALIZED it you in!

Weed is one of the least harmful things we can use and the government could make a mint in taxes from the sale, a lot more than they get from arrests and tickets and law enforcement can project their services towards the real criminals out there, the ones that are causing the real problems in daily life--theives, murderers, rapists, abusers(child, domestic violence etc..) and the hard core drugs, the legalization of weed could help the economy. I think pharmacuetical companies are against its medicinal use too, it would take away from their sales.

So They found POT on Willies Bus. Like no one knows that Willie nelson smokes POT. So what? The US spends so much,probably hundreds of millions of dollars fighting marijuana. We should just legalize it and tax it. Think of how how much the crime rate would go down and how much our country could save.

This is particularly true in cases of domestic violence, sexual assault, and date rape. Marijuana use, in and of itself, is absent from both crime reports and the scientific literature. There is simply no link to be made.

Anybody out there want to launch a campaign for the re-prohibition of alcohol? Didn't think so. The answer, of course, is responsible drinking. Marijuana smokers, for their part, have already shown (apart from that little matter known as the law) greater responsibility in their choice of drugs than those of us who choose alcohol.

Ask any police officer how many times they fought somone who just smoked pot they have never had to fight a marijuana user. I then ask: When's the last time you had to fight a drunk? They look at their watches.
