Report: Favre Admits Sending Sterger Voicemails

When Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre took the field Sunday night against his old team -- the Green Bay Packers - a report had surfaced that he'd admitted to the National Football League what many already suspected: It was his voice on suggestive messages left for cheerleader-turned sideline reporter Jenn Sterger in 2008, observes CBS News National Correspondent Jeff Glor.

The report came from Fox Television's Jay Glazer, who didn't name his source and said the league isn't commenting.

Earlier this month, sports website DeadSpin.com said Favre invited Sterger to his hotel via those voicemails when both were with the New York Jets.

"I'm going back to the hotel and just, just chill. … Love to have you come over tonight," one voicemail said.

Deadspin also reported that lewd, below-the-waste photos were sent to Sterger from the same phone as the voicemails.

Favre, who is married with two children, reportedly denied sending those photos.

Sterger's legal team is still deciding whether to talk to the NFL.

At issue? "What the parameters would be. Where would it be? Who would she talk to? What would be the questions?" says CBS Sports analyst Charley Casserly.

If Sterger decides not to cooperate, there would likely be no discipline for Favre, Glor says.

Of course, there's more at stake for the future Hall of Famer.

Favre makes an estimated $7 million to $9 million dollars a year on endorsements.

And this past weekend, "Saturday Night Live" took a shot at his ads for Wrangler jeans, particularly one in which he says he loves the open-fly types.

There are reports that Favre and Sterger are negotiating a cash settlement.

But Casserly says - not according to what he's heard. He tells CBS News, "There have been absolutely no discussions about any matter with anybody from Brett Favre's camp."

On the field, Favre wasn't at his best Sunday night. In a 28-24 loss to the Packers, he threw three interceptions in the second half, including one that was returned for a touchdown. And on another, Favre injured an ankle.

After the game, he didn't talk about the scandal.

Now the question is -- will Jenn Sterger?

If she does cooperate with the NFL, Favre could face disciplinary action -- a fine or suspension. But first, the league would probably have to prove he did in fact send those lewd photos, Glor says, and that could prove difficult.

Sunday night's was Favre's 290th consecutive game -- by far the longest streak in NFL history. If the league finds that he is behind those photos, that streak could wind up being broken -- by suspension, Glor points out.

Hmm - where are all the posters who insisted it wasn't his voice on the voice mails, she hired someone to impersonate Favre, etc. etc? They say the photos came from the same phone number, but I doubt there's any way to prove that now. Didn't hear his wife say, "Nope that's not his!" If I were Favre, I wouldn't claim those photos, either, lol.

Leave the guy alone. This is no one's business but his, his wife's and the lady in question. Why should a great football player be anything but a great football player? Why does he have to be some kind of castrated saint?

That's your excuse for possibly sexual harassment?

Favre did no one any favors, inc. himself. But, having seen (unfortunately) some rather bizarre behavior by various folks (e.g., ex-HP) -- what is it with older guys and semi-anorexic women with a more than a little cosmetic enhancement? Too many Barbie dolls around when they were young? Since when did this configuration become attractive?

If a Jet's employee released Sterger's cell phone number to Favre as alleged, which resulted in workplace sexual harrassment, she has a lawsuit against the Jets. If they tried to squelch the situation with the two other women, they have lawsuits as well. That would be a remedy I would suggest to any woman who was unwillingly placed in her situation. She's gotten unwanted attention by boorish, unethical and possibly criminal behavior. If she makes money off this, more power to her.

You really don't get it, do you? The Glee photos are controversial because they're supposed to be high school girls. Even though the actresses are in their 20's, they posed them as young girls, causing parents to see red.
