Did Gay Slur Prompt Justin Bieber to Punch Boy?

In just two years, 16-year-old Canadian singing sensation Justin Bieber has become one of the biggest stars of popular music.

But Friday night, "Early Show" co-anchor Erica Hill reports, Bieber was trying to be just a typical teen, playing laser tag at an arena in Vancouver.

Dylan Howard, of RadarOnline.com, told CBS News Bieber was attending a laser club with some 12 people as part of his entourage.

Then, at some point, the game of tag apparently turned ugly.

According to TMZ.com, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have determined that an unnamed 12-year-old-boy got into an argument with Bieber and referred to him with a gay slur.

Howard says, "It's alleged that the 12-year-old boy in question taunted Bieber and provoked him into assaulting him."

The boy is said to have cornered Bieber during the game, "shooting" him repeatedly. When Bieber told him to stop -- the boy may have used the gay slur -- and more than once.

The boy claims Bieber punched him.

It's the first time Bieber's world has spun off its carefully orchestrated axis since he broke on the scene in 2008, Hill notes.

His first two albums went platinum. His video, "Baby," topped Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" for the most-viewed YouTube video ever.

And now Bieber -- who is not gay -- says he plans to join the campaign against bullying and homophobia that has sprung up in the wake of several gay teen suicides in recent weeks.

TMZ says Bieber told friends he had no idea how hurtful such remarks could be, and plans to speak out publicly sometime next week.

you call others bigots and trolls
but in reality, you are the bigot, and you are the troll.
read your own comments. you're a troll. you're a huge bigot.

do you even know what bigot means? it means someone who rejects anything other than their own beliefs. that's what you are, isn't it? once again, read your own comments, you'll see that this is true.

and don't even think about trolling against me. i'm only pointing out the facts to you, since you seem to be oblivious as to how hypocritical you are.

This is stupid. Justin Bieber is NOT a martyr!!! He was just as guilty of evil as the other kid was. Justin Bieber was being an arrogant sore loser thinking he was all big hollywood. And the 12 year old was some immature kid who was being a bad winner and probably said something to the effect of "oh don't be gay" like some kids do as a comeback. I'm not saying that comeback is acceptable, but painting this kid as some evil little hate mongerer and Justin's this innocent little angel is ridiculous.

So, does this mean I can punch an anti-heterosexual kid, I can speak out against anti-heterosexuality to cover up my fault? Nice.

oh please, justin bieber isn't gay, and he was being made fun of for "being gay". No one makes fun of someone because they are "Straight", and it's never going to happen.
Dream on, but heterosexuals aren't going to be a group that is harassed.

It wasn't the best thing to do but most people are going to hit someone when they are harassed. Stop trying to victimize yourself when you aren't victimized. Typical bigot.

Justin Bieber getting bad press for punching a 12 year old during a laser tag game. Even if he was taunted, Bieber is enough of a celebrity to have known better. Now Bieber is talking about joining the anti-bullying campaign after he punches/pushes a kid? Not sure I'm making the connection. I don't care about Bieber or whether he is gay. If some kid is running his mouth and gets punched who cares? If he immediately goes to the press with it then I have even less respect for the little punk.

When will bullies be able to stop hiding behind the law? Verbal assault harms the victim just the same as physical.

other news.com outlets are saying the other boy and the boy's friends cornered Bieber and he shoved his way out of the corner. don't know much about Bieber but it sounds very much like a typical laser tag experience with one boy shoving another to get away. Of course, once it was learned it was Bieber, I'm sure the other boy's parents decided their kid had been "assaulted" and they've won the lottery. ah... the price for tween fame.

Justin Bieber exhibits all the body language of a homosexual. In fact it may have well been him and his flirting that caused a boy 4 years younger than him to be provoked into calling him out of the closet. Bieber committed a gay act of hitting a much younger person than himself.

Where is the time out?

Come on give Justin a break. Just because you think he exhibits the body language of a homosexual doesn't make it true.
The parents of this kid are trying to cash in and since I live in Vancouver, I say he doesn't have a chance in hell.
The Bieber is himself just a kid and I don't blame him for punching him.

that has nothing to do with being gay, troll. And his body language is NOTHING of a homosexual.

aren't this people accepted the stardom of this boy??? come on... get over it! if you don'tike him, then don't. no one's forcing you to listen to his songs or look at his face all over magazines or tabloids or everywhere. that is what being famous and what stardom is all about. besides, he is teenager who captured young girls.... a generation so free to choose and express what choice they made. so just move along.... love or hate him.... he'll still be there as long as his fans are there. and Gay or not? whatever he is.... the milions of fans doesn't mind what he is off-cam or on-cam.... get it?
