If your company has a salary scale, there may be a reason why they use that word.
A new study reveals that thinner women -- and larger men -- tend to make the most money.
"Early Show" Contributing Correspondent Taryn Winter Brill reported new research from the University of Florida (pdf) finds that, for women, corporate America is just like a catwalk -- the smaller your waist -- the bigger your paycheck. But if you're a man looking to snag that corner office, don't worry about skipping dessert. Thinner men actually make less money.
According to the study, women who weighed 25 pounds less than the group norm earned about $16,000 more per year. A woman 25 pounds above the group norm earned about $14,000 less. Thinner men, on the other hand, made almost $9,000 less than their average male co-worker.
When we took the findings to an expert, she wasn't surprised.
Debra Shigley, a career expert, said, "I think women are judged by their appearance in the workplace…Women are expected to be thinner and men…the standards are a little more flexible for men."
For more expert opinion, check out what CBS News Medical Correspondent Dr. Jennifer Ashton and "Early Show" Contributor and child and adolescent psychologist Dr. Jennifer Hartstein had to say on the broadcast about what this study means about health and Americans' mentality toward weight.

Honestly, a college kid works his ass off, may not even have enough money to eat or drive in the middle of winter yet still turns his work in because he knows he will make more in the future if he suffers now... and what is mighty CBS and all our scientist so eager to find out, how much the fat guy makes.
Well congradulations CBS I hope you choke on that artificial ground beef cheeseburger laced with that "make you come back for more" medicine. Honestly I'm ashamed of this, you think this motivates me to invent the faster computer or the longer lasting light bulb. No it makes me want to go to the fat guys corner office throw him through the window and jump out myself. Tell me is there a cheese burger on his death bed? huh? is mickydes going to pay for his oversized coffin. I'm a 27 year old ruined professional because someone thought a priest touched me, looking at this...
Your losers, your idiots, sit up there at CBS and say what will make millions of people watch us hmmmmmm... I know fat guys and skinny girls. But whatever you wanna keep paying the pigs it's your world... most definitely NOT mine, nor anyone I ever want to associate with.
This did what the media always does for me, makes me regret being alive long enough to react to it. Just like all those rich druggies who shake their ass on tv and make industries...millions...your discusting, your disappointing, to me, to yourselves, to your families, and everyone who's ever said your name.
At least I can die with a smile on my face knowing the good lord didn't cheat me haha catch ya later on down the line
Women may be skinner and successful not just because they are attractive. The business world still pigeon holes woman by shape. Shorter and fatter women are more "motherly." Skinner and taller woman are close to the male norm in business. Woman are more likely to be judged by appearance than men.
