Video Surfaces of Tyler Clementi Playing Violin

CBS News has obtained new video of the Rutgers freshman who killed himself by leaping from the George Washington Bridge after his intimate encounter with another man was streamed on the Internet.

The video shows Tyler Clementi playing violin.

Tyler Clementi Suicide Result of Hate Crime?

Clementi's violin teacher of five years spoke to "The Early Show" exclusively.

Khullip Jeung said of his pupil, "He was a quiet person, but when he picked up his violin, it was a different story."

CBS News National Correspondent Jeff Glor said authorities announced they had identified the body they found in the Hudson River as that of Clementi. Now, more details have emerged about the online events that led to the tragic end of his life.

In online postings believed to be from Clementi on September 22, he is thought to have written, "I texted roomie around 7 asking for the room later tonight and he said it was fine. When I got back to the room I instantly noticed he had turned the webcam toward my bed."

Police say it was the second time in three days that Dharun Ravi streamed, online, a sexual encounter between Clementi and another man.

Clementi said, "I haven't even seen my roommate since Sunday when I was asking for the room the first time ... and him doing it again just set me off. ... I turned off and unplugged his computer, went crazy looking for other hidden cams..."

Later that day, Clementi took his own life, police say.

On Thursday, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres spoke out, saying, "This needs to be a wake-up call to everyone that teenage bullying and teasing is an epidemic in this country -- and the death rate is climbing."

New Jersey governor Chris Christie was visibly upset as he addressed the tragedy.

Christie said, "As the father of a 17-year-old, I can't imagine what those parents are feeling today. I can't."

Christie says he won't tell prosecutors how to proceed with the case against Ravi and his friend Molly Wei, who so far are only charged with invasion of privacy. But, aluthorities say, that may change if they find evidence of a bias crime.

Whatever the charges, Clementi's family and friends are mourning the end of a promising young life.

Glor added Clementi was scheduled to perform with the Rutgers Symphony Orchestra on Saturday night. Officials say his name will remain on the program.

I think it's so funny that Bible thumpers like to pick and choose which laws in Leviticus that we are to follow. I am so sick of fundamentalists throwing Lev 18:22 in the faces of homosexuals! Isn't it supposed to be all or nothing? For instance...

Chapters 1-7 has rules about the different kinds of offerings and sacrifices that were to be made in preparation for worship. Chapters 8-10 has rules for the priests regarding offerings, sacrifices, and other priestly duties. Chapter 11 has rules about clean and unclean foods. For example you will find that pork and shrimp are abomination but it's OK to eat beetles, locusts and grasshoppers. Chapter 12 has rules about purification of a woman after childbirth and the circumcision of males is a must. Chapters 13-14 has rules related to skin disorders from leprosy to scabby stuff like dandruff, eczema and zits. Chapter 15 has rules about purification of women after their period and for men with seminal discharges. Chapter 16 has more priestly rules Chapter 17 has rules about not consuming blood. Chapter 18 has rules about sex. Chapter 19 has rules about dealing fairly with others, crossbreeding of animals and crops is not allowed (No tangelos allowed and Tropicana twisters are a synthetic sin). Mixed fabrics are a no-no! (no polyester or cotton blends), no cutting of sideburns or trimming of beards, when you plant a tree you are to avoid eating its fruit for three years. Chapter 20 has more rules about sex...if a man has sex with a woman on her period they are both to be cut off from the people and that if a couple commits adultery they are both to be put to death. Chapter 25 has rules about not lending money to a country man with interest, and we are not to sell food at a profit.

The list goes on and on... So if you are gonna judge others and hold your fellow brothers and sisters accountable then by God we should follow ALL the laws. So is it all or nothing? No, you want to pick and choose what you want to throw at whom you choose to judge.

My point, These laws are out dated.

Now lets all go out for some bacon wrapped shrimp after church Sunday!

Five gay teens have committed suicide as a result of bullying in the last TWO WEEKS. RIP Asher Brown, Seth Walsh, Billy Lucas, Tyler Clementi, and Raymond Chase. We failed you. We failed you by allowing messages of hate and intolerance towards gay people to flourish in our society. Please think about this folks: You don't have to understand or approve of homosexuality. That is your right. What is not your right is to treat gay people as something less than human. Straight or gay, God made us all. And straight or gay, everyone deserves kindness and respect. We all need to speak out more often against this type of intolerance. We are all someones child, grandchild, sister, brother, friend...how would you feel if this tragic loss was one of yours?

Dharun Ravi's watching secretly his roommate making out with another person is not right, Ravi's tweeting about it and broadcasting it to the world is totally outrageous. May Dharun Ravi receive his just punishment. The world do not need someone like him.

I hope the creeps that caused this young man to commit suicide gets what is coming to them,it is not only invasion of privacy, it is just plain WRONG for them to tape him and put it on the internet. Young people and people in general have enough to deal with in this world, without others complicating things. I hope they get charged with the highest charge they can be charged with. I want to say what I would charge them with, but I have to watch what I say in here too. I am sorry for his loss, gay or not, there has been bullies for other people that were not gay and they committed suicide too. I pray for his family!

I am saddened beyond words by the loss of Mr. Clementi's very young life. Yet I am equally saddened by the actions of his roommate.
As technology has continued to advance, (reaching at one time only imagined prospects in our culture) has humanity quietly taken a nose dive downward in the opposite direction?
I was born in 1956. I vividly remember watching THE JETSONS cartoon on our Black and White television and observing that in one episode they could simultaneously see and talk to someone, who was miles away, on a video screen, just like a phone call. And I thought that I would never live to see such a cool thing exist. Today there is SKYPE.
So many awesome advancements lay before us.
Yet what about basic human respect? I do not believe that one need be religious to recognize the universal truth of "Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You."
I don't pretend to know the full and personal intent of Mr. Clementi's roommate's decision to videotape and download on the internet a recording of his engaging in a private, personal act. But I am a human being and my heart continues to ache for what seems to be a pervasive sense of entitlement and self-centered "Me-ness", that does not seem to have a conscious regard or understanding of what is necessary to co-exist with other human beings-who may be different from you.
Is it too much to ask that we can agree to disagree with folks who are "different" from us? Can we actively be respectfully of one another?
Or have these formerly assumed beliefs become old fashioned and passe, as our world continues to "advance"?

People gripe about the internet having too much information. There are so many Facebook members sharing every intimate detail. Hmm, I wonder why everyone knows their business? Could it be because they are putting it out there for everyone to read? Could it be that's why there are so many perv's just waiting for the chanch to ruin someone's life? I think so. If you don't want it out there, don't put it out there. Keith Bodine

What we need are laws that protect every citizen regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, financial status, gender identity, etc. Bullying is wrong of any kind. I think it can only get better if we start with educating those that are in fear of diverse people. We want the same as you do, to live a life loving who we want to love, going to work everyday,l to the store, raising a family. The only thing that differs is who we choose to sleep with, and to me, if that does not hurt anyone, why should gay people be hurt. Why should people of diversity have to put up with this. Diverse peoples are no different than heterosexual, white coller, american people. We just want to live, love and be happy. This man was betrayed his privacy no matter what he was doing. If he had taken a video of his female roommate and put it on the web, you can be sure he would have been suspended if not thrown out of school or worse. It is a matter of privacy of things that in general should be left to privacy. This is very bad. People, schools, hospitals, law enforcement all need to be educated about this stuff . And LAWS NEED TO BE IN PLACE FOR THIS KIND OF STUFF.

This piece is the Bruch Violin Concerto no. 1. While this is not the footage from that concert, he performed this piece last May at his final high school concert. It was the most beautiful performance I have ever heard, and it was an honor to play it with him. There was not a dry eye in the audience that night.

cb484... would you happen to have a clip of Tyler playing the Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1. It would be a nice way of remembering Tyler. Thanks.
