Man Finds Dead Mouse in Loaf of Bread

(AP)  It was hard to explain, that dead mouse baked into a loaf of bread.

British officials have released the photo which proved that Stephen Forse wasn't kidding when he claimed to find the wee creature while making sandwiches for his children.

Forse, who bought the bread from a supermarket in 2009, said Monday he first thought a dark spot in the bread - branded Best of Both - was some poorly mixed dough.

Then he noticed it had fur.

The case wound up in court. Premier Foods pleaded guilty to violating health laws, and was fined 16,821 pounds ($26,470) on Friday.

Forse says his gruesome discovery made him feel ill, and he felt sick again when health officers noted that the mouse's tail was missing, perhaps already eaten in a sandwich.

Health standards have to be maintained but isolated incidents like this are inevitable in addition to being remarkable for their rarity. Decades ago, I found a rat's hind leg in a (national brand) can of lima beans. I threw out that nasty "concoction" and bought another brand of canned lima beans. Went on with my life: didn't need a lawyer, didn't need "compensation" for my brief feeling of "illness."

Far more people get real illnesses from restaurant food. But few people sue the restaurant, they most often just report the incident to the restaurant because: most restaurant owners are driven to protect their business which means protecting their customers. People sue: COMPANIES because they get the idea that they can be compensated for even minor discomforts.

In this story: at least the baking company got off with a "wake up call" fine and didn't (yet) get sued for a pile of money.

So what's the problem? Fur is a good source of fiber.

Imagine if it was a loaf of white bread passed off as rye.

"Forse says his gruesome discovery made him feel ill, and he felt sick again when health officers noted that the mouse's tail was missing, perhaps already eaten in a sandwich."

...So he got sick...and then got sick again...redundant?

Seems like he felt sick, started feeling better, then felt sick again after the tail comment.
