(CBS)  A spectacular crash was caught on video by a police cruiser in Green County, Ohio.

A car police say was going 100 mph is seen hitting the center divider of a highway, then going airborne and slamming into an overpass.

The 19-year old driver survived, but is in critical condition.

I-675 was shut down for hours this morning as the crash site was cleaned up and medical helicopter removed the driver.

Police haven't said whether drugs or alcohol played a role.

He sped up, even on the grass, and even past a cop, which is just too unusual. One should wonder if there was a mechanical issue like a stuck accelerator involved, and not just assume recklessness.

Why is this article just a few sentences long? It give nothing insightful about the accident itself.

This kids' 19 now and was caught speeding at age 17 as well? I don't wish death by car accident on anyone however, too bad he didn't do himself in atleast it would have taken yet another dangerous teenage driver off the roads - mumsie and daddy could have then been so proud of the (I'm gagging here) great driving skills they gave him.

The only hope we have is that his pretty face is now scarred so that every time he sees himself in the mirror he can be proud of the damage he did - mumsie and daddy too.

I've never considered passing a police car at 100+ MPH to be a survival trait...

CBS Evening News reported that this 19 year old had just been released from jail 15 minutes before the wreck. It makes me wonder what other facts CBS doesn't get straight. The kid hadn't been in jail. He was parked in his car in the parking lot of a local business and the police had checked him out because it was so early in the morning. He was cited/given a summons for having some marijuana in his car. He had an unopened container of alcohol in his car. He passed the field sobriety test. He wasn't drunk, and he hadn't been arrested. And as to one of the comments, the Dayton, OH area doesn't have any HOV lanes.

Yes, he was actually arrested, but released since they didn't deem him a flight risk. So CBS was not off.

Here is quotes from the Beavercreek Police from the DDN.

Beavercreek police said Tuesday that they had arrested Eden at 6:13 a.m. Monday on charges including possession of alcohol, drug paraphernalia and drug abuse after he was found with a 15-year-old Beavercreek girl in the parking lot near the corner of Beaver Vu Drive and North Fairfield Road.

The officer approached the vehicle because it was in the parking lot of a closed business at such an early hour. The officer found an unopened can of alcohol, a trace of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the car.

The girl was cited and released to her father. Eden was given a court summons and released.

?It?s police procedure not to incarcerate people on a prohibition (charge),? Beavercreek Sgt. Jim Wuebben said. ?There was no reason to believe that Mr. Eden was a flight risk or that he would not appear in court.?

?Eden was cooperative throughout, and there were no indications of Eden to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest. He was released prior to 6:54 a.m.? Monday, Wuebben said.

The contact between the officer, Eden and the teen girl was not recorded on cruiser camera because it was not considered a traffic stop.

?None of this was captured on cruiser camera ... because this was not a traffic stop. In a traffic stop scenario the (cruiser?s) overhead lights are automatically operated,? Wuebben said.

Police do not anticipate making any changes in procedures or policies as a result of Monday?s incident. Wuebben said his department believes there was no connection between their interaction with Eden and his crash on I-675.

In November 2009, Eden was cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol for driving 90 mph in an 65 mph zone, according to records filed in the Fairborn Municipal Court.

This was plain stupidity. My good friend was one of the cars on the road right before him. He was lucky that the only person hurt was him and not anyone else.

I have total compassion for the driver depicted in the video who crashed into the bridge. I've been through that sort of thing and it was by the grace of regular people and authorities that it did not become even more awful than it already was. People who make ugly, vicious, demeaning statements base on nothing other than their own vile natures are only showing the rest of us how despicable they and the world can truly be. Make Peace, not war.

Well.... OK, I hear you, but, he was speeding radically. Its not like it was some mysterious and unfortuneate accident was it?

hey 'documents' - in your accident were you 19 yrs old? Did you have very lttle driving skills at the time? Did you just get out of jail? Did you have beer and pot in your car at the time of your accident? Somehow I'm betting not. Perhpas in your case, I feel for you - in this a**hole's case NOT AT ALL.

This kid needs a few more life skills and driver's training still but I"m not sure it should come from mom & dad and they clearly have none to give him!

The teenager will say that he thought he was in the HOV lane and that it suddenly ended.

Makes me think maybe the Dukes of Hazzard wasn't really based in reality.
