Lawyer: Returned Russian Boy Back in Orphanage

(AP)  An attorney for an adoption agency says a Russian boy who was sent back to Moscow by his American adoptive mother has been placed back in an orphanage.

Larry Crain, who works for World Association for Children and Parents, said the 8-year-old boy was put back in a Russian orphanage this month after his adoptive mother, Torry Hansen of Shelbyville, Tenn., sent him back in April. Crain said he did not know the name or location of the orphanage.

Hansen sent him with a note saying she didn't want him any more because he had severe psychological problems.

The incident created an international uproar and new adoptions by U.S. parents in Russia virtually stopped.

Crain has filed a court petition saying another Tennessee woman is willing to be the boy's guardian.

Before everyone is too judgmental on this poor "mom", we need to be more Understanding. She did not buy into having a mentally challenged child with potentially life long problems, and nor would anyone, knowing all the facts. At the end of the day, she did what was right for her, and who can criticize that in anyone ? As a society, we are all too willing to vilify women who try and step away, whether it be from work responsibilities , school, car pool duties, or this. The episode is about freedom, not about hate.

This is all just so horrible. My kids, at one time or another, have screamed, yelled, made threats, thrown and broken things, you name it. One has temper issues. The other has mild Asperger's. I, like any parent, have wanted to strangle them for a second a few times. I don't doubt that boy had challenging problems. But if there is one truism about being a parent it's that you do not give up on your kids no matter what. This horrible woman seemed to view this poor boy as some piece of merchandize that didn't end up being as advertised. Hey, you know, Madonna adopted some kids from somewhere, didn't she? It was cool. But unlike a gadget or a car, a kid does not come with a warranty or a money back guarantee. This is yet another example of the onrushing flight from responsibility I see in this country. Everybody talks about their rights to free speech, gun ownership, and to themselves most of all. But you don't hear much about our responsibilities do you? And poor innocent kids like this one get stuck in the middle. Pathetic.

I feel so sory for this little boy - he must feel so unwanted and so unloveable. I pray he will be adopted into a loving family.
