"Early Show" Co-Anchor Julie Chen Steps Down

Julie Chen will step down as co-anchor of "The Early Show" to devote time to co-hosting a new daytime talk show on CBS this fall.

Though Chen will continue to have an important on-air role with "The Early Show" once her new show begins, she no longer will be one of the daily co-anchors of the broadcast.

Chen has been an anchor of "The Early Show" since October 2002. Chen spends her summers doing double-duty between "The Early Show" and hosting "Big Brother," a reality series that began its 12th season on CBS in July 2010.

On the new CBS show, Chen will join a panel of moms from all walks of news and entertainment life who will take a look at the news from their unique viewpoint. The daily, one-hour series will be co-hosted by Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Chen lives in New York and Los Angeles with her husband, Leslie Moonves, with whom she has a son and three stepchildren.

This is one of the best moves CBS could have made. Julie is a people person and she really has a sense of humor if you listen to some of the things she says or view her facial reaction. I will watch this progrm because I've followed her since Day 1 of Big Brother! Have you seen the ratings for this show? Highest in 12 Seasons and the houseguest for this season are shall we say little immature and big liars! For those who are constantly bring up the fact that Julie is married to Mooves...and your point is? Even if that is the case, it takes us viewers to make her and posters such as us who keeps the spotlight or her! Whether you like her or not, you are making her name a household name. I wish her luck with this endeavor and I will watch it! CBS.... smart move! Jules......"You Rock"!

What a joke....she was on leave for 6 months and then returned to the show for one segment after 9am a couple of times a week. I will be THRILLED not to see her pop on and off the show when she wants. Guess Les had to create her a show just to get her off the early show. Now if he would send Erica Hill back to CNN the show would be worth watching again!

Well, I can't believe it! While watching the segment on the Presidential Kid in the Public eye, you had a guest comment that Chelsea had "come from Arkansas, and probably didn't have makeup", while showing a picture of about 9 year old Chelsea, with thick lenses in her glasses looking like all gawky 9 year old pre-teen girls look.

Apparently, the producers in New York are not aware that we in Arkansas in fact, do have makeup. We have a Maybelline plant about 10 miles from the Governor's mansion in Little Rock. We also have dental care, and we can speak fluent English. Not all of the "tornado survivor" cuts that make the nationl news segments protray accurately life in Arkansas.

Do we have some hicks and gawky 9 year olds? Yes. Do you in New York? Yes, you do, too. Maybe the "gawky" picture of Chelsea should have been proceeded by one of the many "geeky" pictures of Hillary Clinton in her early days as the First Lady in Arkansas. I sat next to her on an airplane to D.C. once and was disgusted by her lack of personal hygeine. The people in Arkansas were always put off and embarrassed by Hillary's "geekiness". Study the photos...she was made over for Bill's first presidential run. Before the commercial re-packaging of her, she was as homely as can be! Some of us in Arkansas could actually sympathize with Bill to a point for all his extramarital expoits, given the way she presented herself back then!

I'm not surprised that people who have never actually been to Arkansas would ignorantly make the assumption that we are a third world outpost down here in Dixie, but I am consistently surprised that your producers and editors would go out of their way to edit the interview so that it is so insulting to us.

To the lady who commented that Chelsea had "come from Arkansas, and probably didn't have makeup": How about lets see a picture of you when you were nine and pre-makeup?

To the editors and producers of this segment: Shame on you for being so provincial and ignorant that you would air this. Apparently there is a profound knowledge gap in your studio. Maybe some of you should get on an airplane and explore the rest of the world. You'll find some of the most articulate, educated, and yes, beautiful women in the world in Arkansas.

Plus, Sharon Osbourne is so over-exposed, I'd never watch anything she's in. She needs to take a year off from being on every blessed show in the world.

I too don't believe this new show of Chen will last but then she is married to Moonves..I didn't care for her on the Early Show and I truly dislike the Big Brother show. We have too many talk shows now and absolutly too many "reality shows"..(that are not all that real but a lot of acting)..We have been buying up old DVD's and VHS tapes to watch but TV has gotton so rotten. Some of the commercials are truly terrible, especially the one from a bank that picks just one kid over another. I think this ad should be pulled because it speaks to being cruel to children. Also, ads where one person hits another are terrible and we boycott any products that these ads try to sell.
Watch PBS, Animal planet, History channel and this is enough for us with this crazy world we live in. Want some entertainment, go to your local library and read some books. Many libraries around the U.S. are hurting because people don't read script anymore. I think we like the comment area because we get to read what others have written and their what their thoughts are, not some news anchor who only reads what is written from a teleprompter.

If people don't go to libraries and read script anymore, who were those 758 people who came through my library's doors yesterday? Most stores would be thrilled to get 758 customers in a single day.

It is about time that Big Brother resigns. That was stupid to have her interview someone important to the news program then have her hoist Big Brother holding company.
