Clinton Wedding Site Rumors Point to Rhinebeck

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  In the one-stoplight town of Rhinebeck, New York, nestled in the postcard-perfect Hudson Valley, all signs indicate that Chelsea Clinton will marry fiance' Marc Mezvinsky here next Saturday. And the rumors are swirling.

The Clintons have not confirmed Rhinebeck as the wedding location, but the mother of the bride told CBS News Correspondent Elaine Quijano that she's thrilled.

"I'm very excited. I think she is a really responsible young woman," said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. "Her fiancée is a wonderful young man."

Mayor Jim Reardon believes the Rhinebeck rumor is true.

Asked what he thought his town might look like come July, Reardon said, the thinks "it's going to look like a circus."

The trickle of details leaking out has now turned into a torrent.

The wedding will reportedly take place at the $12 million dollar estate known as Astor Courts - 50 acres encompassing a five-bedroom beaux-arts pavilion - and owned by Clinton donors.

Just two days ago, the local paper, the Hudson Valley News, spotted a newly-erected tent on the grounds of the estate.

"Our sources indicate that it's going to be constructed in such a way that it's going to be all glass on the river side so the guests will be in there, air conditioned, with an unimpeded view of the Hudson," said Jim Langan, the executive editor of the Hudson Valley News

Wedding guests - including A-list celebrities - will reportedly stay at the historic Beekman Amars, where Langan says the owners have signed a confidentiality agreement.

The rehearsal dinner is expected to take place in a stone bar at Grasmere, a 525-acre private estate.

Gift bags will reportedly come from this boutique and will include wine bearing the Clinton name from a local vineyard.

Experts estimate the wedding could cost roughly $2 million - with guests, that's $1,000 a head - for catering alone.

Langan says the wedding plans even call for electricians on standby.

"They have been instructed by the wedding planner that they have to be attired in tuxedos so they blend in," he said. "hey don't want these guys sitting around in farmers jeans while passing the caviar."

Langan also drove CBS News to a purported top-secret location where the Clintons will be staying.

Did one of Prez. Bush get married while he was still in office?
Interestingly, our liberal media showed very little interest in her wedding.
Our liberal media does have a double standard when it comes coming national events. Really, how cares about a former president's daughter spend millions of $$$ on this event. How much $$$ does the Clinton's give to charity, to the poor?????

this union will fail!

This is an astonishing comment. Why would anyone in their right mind want a marriage to fail? Of course, this poster clearly is not in his or her right mind.

I am amused by all of this. Ms. Clinton works hard at a good job. She has an excellent education. She is a private citizen. Yet her wedding is fodder for a great deal of backbiting and gossip. Her parents are wealthy (as is Sarah Palin, private citizen) and she can spend as much money on her wedding as she wants. Plenty of other private citizens spend this much or more on weddings, and they do it out of the public eye. She should not be criticized. Get off her back. She has the right to do as she pleases. Let's be mature about all of this.

If this were a wedding of a Republican's daughter, the press would be screaming about the ridiculous expense and the inconvenience to the general public.

But the Liberal press always treats Democrats like royalty - which is exactly what the founding fathers of this country didn't want - and fought to get rid of in our government.

Liberals aren't "progressive" - they are regressive; harkening back to the dark days of kings, queens and tyrants.

It's their money. They can spend it however they like. You don't like it? Tough.

There is seriously something wrong with people who have an ounce of interest in fluff garbage news like this article, Lindsay Lohan, and other worthless information. But the Reality TV mentality is part of the reason people don't use their brains anymore and to prove it, look at the LOSER they elected president in the last election. Wake up, sheeple.

This boutique? Was I supposed to watch the video instead of read the article? And to think someone actually got paid to do this halfass job.

Chelsea looks great. Good luck. Who cares where they are going to be wed or how much they spend? It's a free country (?) Besides, I wasn't invited.

To me, with my earnings and savings, $2M would equate to maybe a $30,000 wedding. Still huge by lots of standards, and maybe better used giving the could a head start on their home downpayment.

For two hardworking parents like the Clintons, who have earned every red cent from their years of service, hard work, book writing, helping neighbors near and far, and again---still---all the hard work on behalf of the entire planet, whatever they want to spend on the large circle of family friends is just fine with me. Every parent should be so lucky to be able to do something like this for their loving, and much-loved, daughter; every child should have such loving parents.

We are all so lucky to have these three as role models. Let them and their many friends have a wonderful day, and may Marc and Chelsea enjoy and pass along the happy experiences to come for years and years.

Yeah, you're right the Clintons are such good role models. I think fidelity, compassion and justice are the primary virtues they hold so dear and exemplified those 8 years we were so blessed to have them in the White House. I mean, Bill Clinton was only trying to mentor and be a father figure to Monica Lewinsky. And he wanted to give Marc Rich another chance when he pardoned him in the middle of the night before leaving office. And Hillary wasn't using her position when they pardoned her own brother, Hugh Rodham.

Thanks for reminding us of what great people they are and how lucky we are to have them, they are truly national treasures.

Anyone who has been in Washington more than 2 terms should be voted out and chased out of the nation's capitol. We don't need legislation for term limits if the voters would only use their brains.

Who cares about her wedding when dams break, people are out of work and losing their homes and unemployment is at an all time high. If you care about this then you have no life. Get with it and care about your fellow American who has nothing. She is a rich litle girl and 2 million for her wedding would feed a lot of people. Time to wake up America!
