Coulter: No "Post-Racial America" Under Obama

To some the election of 2008 signified that we were living in a "post-racial America."

But the events of this past week in which the Obama administration fired a black USDA employee for allegedly making racist remarks, and then apologized to her when it was revealed that a right-wing website had posted an edited video that took her comments out of context, indicate that is not quite the case.

As conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart defended his posting a doctored video of a black USDA official talking about race, conservative author and commentator Ann Coulter this morning blamed the Obama administration for making racially-tinged statements.

"I don't think it has been 'post-racial' for a second with this administration," Coulter said on "The Early Show."

"You had the president calling Sergeant Crowley [the Cambridge, Mass. Police officer who arrested Henry Louis Gates at his home] saying he was acting stupidly. Up to now you had them not prosecuting the New Black Panthers on the grounds that they won't prosecute a voting rights case against blacks. You had Sonia Sotomayor saying she was a 'wise Latina' and ruling against white firemen who didn't get promotions because of their race - I mean, it's been nonstop, nonstop, nonstop."

Coulter also blamed "liberal journalists, hundreds of them, chit-chatting about how to protect Obama.

"You know, they're openly saying, 'We're in trouble, we need to distract from what's going on. Let's just randomly call the conservative racist.' Liberals use this all the time to distract from what's going on," she said.

"Speaking of distractions," Democratic analyst Tanya Acker said, "I find it very ironic, I mean with all due respect to Ann, to get a lecture on race relations from someone who said that Jews need to be perfected."

Acker said the public should not be distracted from what happened, describing the issue as distorted reporting of a speech given by the USDA's former head of rural development in Georgia, Shirley Sherrod.

"The woman whose father was murdered by a white farmer - for which there was never any indictment, any prosecution - was telling a story about racial redemption," Acker said, before Andrew Breitbart and others ran an excerpt that made it appear she was speaking positively about discrimination.

"Look, I expect doctored journalism, I expect selective editing from the Breitbarts and the Hannitys," Acker said. "What I think is really problematic here, what you're seeing is that the mainstream press is sort of being cowed by this right-wing journalism.

"So you've got folks on the right making these things up, taking things out of context, and then saying, 'Gosh darn it, why isn't the rest of the media reporting on this?' And then people jump on that, and this poor woman was crucified for two days until we found out what really happened."

"These things happen on both sides - cow-towing to another side," said "Early Show" anchor Erica Hill. "How much of it is the fact we live in a society where everything is so immediate that people don't take time to check the facts?"

"I would contest that it happens on both sides," Coulter replied. "Things taken out of context? I never said Jews need to be perfected. I accurately described the New Testament."

With the issue of selective editing or "doctored journalism," Coulter listed "MSNBC describing 'white men bringing guns to Obama rallies' where they only show the gun[s], you don't see the black man with a gun," or a picture on the left-leaning Center for American Progress' website showing a self-proclaimed racist at a Tea Party rally that doesn't show him being rejected by other attendees.

Hill mentioned footage fun by Fox purportedly showing certain crowds at anti-adminstration rallies and Sarah Palin book signings, actually taken at different events to suggest larger turnouts.

Coulter countered with the incident, reported by CBS News and others, that black Congressmen were called the "N-word" as they passed through a crowd protesting health care reform in March. "That is a lie, that is a despicable lie, that never happened. Why hasn't CBS News apologized for that?"

[Earlier this year Andrew Breitbart defended a video he posted of black representatives at the Capitol, taken an hour after they say racial slurs were hurled at them, as being indicative that no racial slurs were used. that the lawmakers were lying, Breitbart said afterwards.]

When asked if there is any way the left and right can have a meaningful conversation about race, Acker said, "Certainly. It really depends on who's trying to have the conversation.

"I think there are plenty of well-meaning Americans who want to try to deal with the issue of race in a responsible way without the name-calling, without trying to defend racism on either side. It's a matter of having that conversation and the respectful and productive way and in a productive forum," she said.

My husband is Jewish. Over the years,I have watched as he heard people make either overt anti-Semitic remarks or insensitive remarks. He never gets angry. He never takes issue with them. I asked him why he says nothing and his attitude is, "Once I see who they really are, they aren't people I want to have anything to do with going forward. I see no reason to try and "reason" with people I wouldn't allow in my home or around my children." I think that's how we should view people like Dr. Laura. Tune them out. Ignore them. Give them no press time or "thought" time. Pretty soon they will shrivel up and die...at least from public attention. Dr. Laura said what she said to get attention and it worked. And her listeners are like her and they don't care that she's racist, because they are too.

Sorry....Ann is hot, she is sexy, she is intelligent, informed, and in shape. Unlike so many bloated liberals. She may appear hateful, but that's because you liberals are highly detestable pigs. You've spent, regulated, taxed and coerced us into oblivion. What we conservatives remember about the liberals is how they were unable to see that Hitler was who he was. Libs were the ones walking around saying...'you know, that Hitler is a nice guy. He won't invade.' Problem is with liberals....you can't tell a stupid person they're stupid, because their only frame of reference is from that standpoint of being stupid. Stupid is what stupid does. In the case of the liberals, you've got your moron prez saying last week in his televised address that the Republicans were going to kill jobs, add trillions to the debt, wasn't going to blame Bush for anything, unemployment wasn't going to go above 8.5%, no one making under $250,000 would see a dime of tax increase, blah blah blah. The guy hates whites, hates freedom, hates personal responsibility, hates wealth (unless it's his)....and you liberals can't see him for what he is. Kinda like Jeffrey Dahmer....there were people who said he was a nice guy. Didn't mean he wasn't going to eat them. Just that he seemed nice. Just because this ******** of a prez tells you he is for you doesn't mean he is. Look at jobs. Amazing that you libs blame Bush for the lack of jobs. We're all in a heap of trouble because of the uninformed liberal. The ONLY solution is to have two parties in this country. Let the liberals tax each other to death, regulate themselves into oblivion....and let the conservatives/Republicans have their own space where they lower taxes, only regulate that which really needs to be regulated, and let people have their freedom back. Anyone care to guess who would end up the more prosperous? Oh yeah...the liberals hate capitalism and wealth (except their own of course)...so this is a no brainer. But no....they want to push their irresponsible and careless agenda on all of us. N-O-V-E-M-B-E-R.

LOL...ROFLMBAO....

Your first problem is that you say Ann is hot..sexy...! She needs to be part of the Daily Double at Turfway with a competent jockey on her back. That horse faced race baiter is by no means hot or sexy.
If she's hot, it's because of the heat wave we're experiencing on the coast.
She's always been a hate filled race baiting self righteous hypoctite.
How dumb can you be..? You also probably think that Palin is the next coming of the Republi-Christ too. Your comments sharply underscore how lost and out of touch with average every day Americans the Rebuplican neocons really are. Really, really pathetic.

I caught Ann Coulter on your show this morning. What is wrong with CBS? I rarely watch anything except C-Span in the morning. I am so disappointed with CBS!!Anne Coulter lacks credibility. She only wants to fan the flames of diviseness. She should not have a voice on a respected TV station like CBS. I grew up listening to Rather and Cronkite. I don't think Harry would ever have had an interview with her over a situation like this. Also, why isn't the media asking Breitbart for an apology?

Want to upset a Conservative, tell them a lie. You want to upset a Liberal, tell them the truth.

Here is the problem, Coulter is a Conservative commentator. She doesn't pretend to be anything else. Just like Hannity, Rush, O'Reilly, etc. On the flip side, Matthews, Olbermann, Smith, Stephanopolus, etc, are Liberal commentators pretending to be journalists.

The question is, why are conservatives proud to be conservative but liberals have to lie about being liberal? Makes people wonder.

She is absolutely right! the very fact that we are here arguing about this is proof of how bad things have gotten. From the time that Mr Obama entered the primary insults of racism were immediately hurled at anyone who was critical of him in any way. Since then, race is in the news constantly and there is a seeming anger from many who just want to address issues, yet are being called racist because they don't have a PC skin tone.

I watch CBS because I don't have to see Ann Coulter there. She spews venom wherever she goes. Yet, as your show started there she was being given a platform for her venom.
Please NEVER have her on CBS again. She is a large reason America is so divided... and it's sad ANYONE gives her a voice. If she is on again, I will stop watching CBS Early Show too. Don't want to worry she will be on.
