Lohan in Denial about Going to Jail, Report Says

(CBS)  Tuesday's a big day for Lindsay Lohan.

As "Early Show" national correspondent Hattie Kauffman reports, it's when the actress is scheduled to begin her 90-day jail sentence for violating her probation in a 2007 DUI case.

But, reports celebrity website TMZ, Lohan is in "obsessive denial" about going to jail.

She's reportedly spent the last four days in a drug rehabilitation facility founded by her new, high-profile lawyer, Robert Shapiro. He lost his son, Brent, to a drug overdose five years ago.

Shapiro, the famous former OJ Simpson attorney, says he only agreed to take on Lohan's case if she agreed to report to jail and comply with the terms of her probation. In a statement, he says, "Ms. Lohan is suffering from a disease that I am all too familiar with. Hopefully, I can be of some assistance."

Analysts say his involvement may reduce her sentence. "I think," says former federal prosecutor Laurie Levenson," Shapiro will say to the judge, 'Look judge: You know how dedicated I am to rehab. Let's see if we can get her through rehab. That's gonna fix her and help the community more than just throwing her in jail." "

TMZ says, "Sources in the crazy world of Lindsay Lohan say he has not convinced her that she must surrender to a jail sentence. People who are interacting with Lindsay tell TMZ she has been in obsessive denial over her surrender Tuesday, when she must begin serving" that sentence.

"Lindsay is convinced," TMZ adds, "there is still a way she can avoid jail, even though Shapiro made it clear he would only rep her if she went to the pokey."

Kauffman says Lohan would be moving from her rehab facility to the confines of an 8-by-10-foot jail cell, where she'll spend 22 hours of her day alone.

Rehab experts tell CBS News jail CAN be the shock an addict's system needs to jolt them into recovery.

Says addiction psychiatrist Dr. Reef Karim, "A typical addict has a system of how they function in a pathological way. And jail can interrupt that process."

No matter how much help Lohan gets, from Shapiro, Kauffman points out, experts agree the person most responsible for getting Lohan to clean up her act is Lindsay herself.

On "The Early Show" Monday, board-registered interventionist Brad Lamm, author of "How to Change Someone You Love," addressed the challenges Lohan would face behind bars:

Prescription medication addict? Pleeeeease! She isn't messed up because mommy and daddy made her that way! That's just the half of it. No, it's obviously her undying desire to ALWAYS be the center of attention, for the obvious dismal career she has had as a so-called actress! I mean, let's face it people, she looks like she's on CRACK...and I for one hope she doesn't surrender for her 90 days in jail. I hope they have to tote the pretentious, Beverly Hills, princess wanna-be butt off to jail by force, in cuffs and in leg irons. Yeah, no doubt, probably kicking a screaming like the spoiled, little child she is! So, chew on that and "FKU" Lindsay! Now, whine and ball your eyes out over that a while. Clean your act up and get over yourself or kiss your high living lifestyle goodbye! Act your age and not your shoe size, because society is not much for supporting whiners who want to ball on their attorney's shoulder (like sniveling idiots),...and if that family of yours cared so much, they'd do an intervention (instead of enabling you) or maybe get into rehab right along with her. But hey, just check out these posts if this isn't intervention enough for you (Lindsey), because hate to burst your bubble honey, but you ain't all that sweetheart! It's just simply pathetic that people want to blow the chances they are given or far extend their time in the lime light, unable to recognize when it's over. So, just chalk it up to being a has been, because you've not got what it takes and people are way past sick of seeings your face in the news, in tabloids and on TV. Either that or choose a more productive and believable path, like some of those anti-drug campaigns, with a caption beneath your picture saying "This is your brain on CRACK!" In fact, maybe that's how Miss Lohan could spend her 90 days in jail, paying back taxpayer money for having to try her pathetically, ridiculous case - because For pete sakes, it freakin' ridiculous! So, I say enough with the special treatment for so called Hollywood fame, with all their stupid stunts. It's counter productive, in that it sends the wrong message to these known criminals and offenders! They never learn anything from it and they'll just keep on taking the system (and other people) for granted, AS IF they really are convoluted enough to think they are something all that special. So, have a nice 90 days Lindsey,..and I don't think I am speaking for only myself when I say,...sure wish it could be longer.

Okay Lindsey, maybe what you did THIS time doesn't earn you jail time. This makes up for all the times the book should have been thrown atcha :)

It's sad that this stupid little girl is so determined to throw her life and career away. Winona Rider did much the same thing. Even in Hollywood at a certain point the powers that be realize you are just too nuts to work.

The denial will become reality when the bars slam...

what a total piece of garbage- a waste of humanity. her attorney quit because she can't stand her. i hope this isn't her last trip to the pokey, i'd love to see her get a multi-year sentence for something, anything! now THAT would be entertaining...

LiLo needs a good haircut, shower and a long stint at Betty Ford, not jail in Los Angeles per se...just some structure and a long drying period!

I don't know who Lindsay Lohan is, but she is unpleasant to look at, and seems to be an idiot. Evidently she is a celebrity of some sort. Why didn't they throw her directly in the slam the minute she was sentenced? She doesn't want to go to jail? I despise these twits that cry in court and lament their lot in life. Too bad. Part of being a criminal is accepting the risk of punishment. 90 days is worth your dignity? Stop whining, loser.

Why is it so hard for this dumbcluck to understand reality?

I hope she either gets her act together, or at least gets the beating her parents so desperately needed to give her.

God I hate Hollywood. And I hate how most Americans would end up just like Lindsey if they had the same opportunties...there's such a dearth of character anymore.

A dose of reality won't hurt her. Why is it that she thinks or feels that she is so much above everyone else? And, more importantly, why is it that we have let her get to that point? She's just a symptom of a sick society and, if allowed to skirt her sentence, will only add to the moral decay of the country.
