Billboard Linking Obama to Hitler, Lenin Removed

A billboard created by an Iowa tea party group comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin has been removed.

Kent Beatty, the general manager of the company that owns the billboard, says a North Iowa Tea Party representative called Tuesday night and asked that the sign in downtown Mason City be removed.

Beatty says his company replaced the sign Wednesday morning with a public service announcement.

Billboard Linking Obama, Hitler Draws Complaints

The original sign showed photographs of Obama, Nazi leader Hitler and communist leader Lenin beneath the labels "Democrat Socialism," "National Socialism," and "Marxist Socialism."

Some tea party members criticized the sign, and North Iowa Tea Party co-founder Bob Johnson acknowledged the pictures overwhelmed the intended message of anti-socialism.

The North Iowa Tea Party began displaying the billboard in downtown Mason City last week. Beneath the photos is the phrase, "Radical leaders prey on the fearful & naive."

The co-founder of the roughly 200-person group said the billboard was intended to send an anti-socialist message. "The purpose of the billboard was to draw attention to the socialism. It seems to have been lost in the visuals," Johnson said. "The pictures overwhelmed the message. The message is socialism."

I totally 100% agree with this billboard. About time someone did something brave. We need more demonstrations like this.

There's no point getting upset about it, or trying to wipe someone else's opinion out, because it will usually have the opposite effect of adding validity to that opinion!

I was wondering how long it would be until the cockroach crawled out from under his rock. And here you are. First, there was no black person who was beaten by Obama supporters. If there was please offer your proof. Second, to say that Obama "is put on equal grounds with two white leaders" is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. And you use that as "proof beyond a doubt that the Tea Party is not racist." Watch out roach...here comes a guy with a bottle of Decon!

This is pretty funny, and just the kind of freedom of speech expression that was made popular during all the years that Bush was being attacked. To not respect this is to not respect free speech and the constitution.

Anyone remember Bush's 'free speech zones' and 'staged' crowds and the folks that got tossed out of these places because they had on the wrong shirt. Imagine had they carried guns to these same 'rallies'? OMG, they would still be in jail branded as terrorists. I agree with Barney Frank -- these folks should thank God the Constitution is BIG enough to allow for their selfish small minded prejudices and selfish short sited visions.
