NAACP Says Tea Party Tolerates Racism

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  The Tea Party tolerates racists, says the NAACP, and they point to signs allegedly made by Tea Party supporters are proof. Members of the civil rights organization passed a resolution at their annual convention calling on Tea Party leaders to "repudiate those in their ranks who use racist language in their signs and speeches."

"The Tea Party as a political philosophy is to reverse what civil rights did, and that is say the federal government must help people," said National Action Netwook president Al Sharpton.

The NAACP also claims activists shouted a racial slur at congressman John Lewis during a health care protest last march, reports CBS News political analyst John Dickerson.

NAACP Passes Tea Party Racism Resolution

On her Facebook page, Sarah Palin, a supporter of the movement, called the charge "false, appalling" and a "regressive and diversionary tactic."

Organizers of the anti-tax and anti-government Tea Party movement such as Freedomworks president Matt Kibbe say they have already made it clear they do not tolerate racism.

"We will not tolerate any kind of hate in our groups and that if you see it in the community you need to call them out," he said.

Sometimes it's the community's leaders who go too far. The Iowa Tea Party purchased a billboard in downtown Mason City comparing Barack Obama to Hitler and Vladmir Lenin. The group has since covered it up, saying it was "counterproductive."

Partisans comparing a president to Hitler is not unique to the current president - George W. Bush has been compared to Hitler - and Tea Party activists say the NAACP is making this incendiary charge for political reasons.

"They're trying to mobilize voters in an election that looks very bad for Democrats," said Kibbe.

The core supporters of both political parties are now in a battle with each other over one of the country's most sensitive subjects: race. Now an already contentious election year has now gotten more contentious.

Where was this so-called patriotic tea party to complain when the Republicans were in office and many things were clearly not good for the country. A highly-qualified African-American becomes president and all of a sudden all the inner bigotry comes to the surface. The tea party does have some justified complaints,as does the NAACP, but if they really want to call themselves patriotic and American, they should start by kicking out anyone who has the offensive signs and language that we have seen. If they don't, they don't have a right to call themselves Americans. A contributing factor to all this animosity is that we really need to stop listening to the opinion talk shows (that are full of biased commentators)on both sides such as Glenn Beck,Hannity from Fox News and Keith Oberman,Chris Matthews from MSNBC and start listening to real facts. All these pundints are doing is pitting Americans against Americans. Our true enemies abroad must be laughing at us probably saying "look at them fighting against each other while we plan their destruction. "It is truly sad!

Funny how the Democrats racism is Aaaaaaaaaaaaaa OK right? That is if an African American running for the Tea Party isn't wanted by the Democratic Party. Where's the NAACP and NOW when you need 'em. That isn't really too often.

Sorry, no sympathy for the Tea Partiers, whether they are racist or not. They had a chance to denouce the posters that were so prominently displayed during their rallies. They had a chance to reudiate them, but chose not to.

Could you find a reputable news source and not these leftist rags to quote from. @heavynne. They may only get $500 a month average but that doesn't include the $300 for foodstamps (EBT card) or the $1400 a month portion section 8 pays on their $1500 a month rent.

So, I guess only the blacks get these benefits, huh? I am positively sure there are more whites riding benefits than anyone else. Blacks only make up 13% of the population, and not all of us or on welfare. Whites make up the majority, so who is benefitting more off your tax dollars. Don't try to claim Immigrants and blacks are the only offenders since you are not racist, be honest about it.

First off, I did not make up the reverse discrimination thing, I heard it from the lawsuit like I said with the firemen incident. You may want to look that one up. Second, where I work, it has been used by whites who felt they were discriminated against and gained them promotions at the job. By the way, I work for the government. Facts, not lies.

It may be used for legal purposes but it is an ignorant term because it doesn't matter the race of the person being discriminated against it is still discrimination.

Wow, you seem to know a lot about this, don't you feel after all of your investigating into this family that it is your duty to report it to social security? Or are you just making your own assumptions? How would you know what the father paid to social security over his lifetime, or have you known him all of his life? See what I mean, you have made nothing but assumptions about your neighbors. And as far as the reverse discrimination, it does exist, remember the firemen who filed reversed discrimination charges over the test that the black firefighters said was geared toward whites for promotional purposes. Where you? In a coma. LOL!!!!!!!

I know a lot about them because they live right next to me and do not have the dignity to keep personal information personal. Everything I said about them is fact. There is nothing made up and there was no investigation needed. They have been reported to welfare, section 8 and the homeowners association. There is no point reporting them to SS because SS has the record of what the dad paid in but that doesn't matter. The law allows for the kid to collect the SS payments because his father died. And no there is no such thing as reverse descrimination. Descrimination is descrimination no matter the race being descriminated against.

So the NAACP resolution cites the supposed march incidents where one congressman was spit on and another was called a certain racial name. It has been shown that the "spitting" incident was actually a case of incidental spittle and the the congressman that was supposedly called that certain word refuses to confirm the incident happened and despite a $100,000 reward offer noone has been able to come up with audio or video. So basically the NAACP is using lies to base it's calims and resolution on.

I didn't hear anyone yelling racist when black people said derogatory things about Bush. Wonder why that is? Maybe because derogatory things said against white people is not considered racist? No I

Now you are really making things up, when did black people ever come out publicly and say anything about Bush? Black people would not have been able to protest, organize or anything else without being arrested. More lies, as if the rest of us were not around. WOW!!!!!

If you are talking about TARP, Yeah that money. Of course most of the TARP money has been paid back where as the money taken by people like the one family in my neighborhood, woman who does not work yet has custody of 13 yo grandson and 9 year old grand daughter because the grandsons junky dad died so he gets $1,000 a month social security payments when the dad didn't pay in $1,000 his whole life. She also has her 24 yo daughter living with her who is on welfare, has never been married, has 3 kids by three different criminal immigrant fathers. Now they also have the womans 35 yo junkie daughter living there (the mother of the 13 and 9 year old). They are section 8 and the junkie daughter is there illegally. So basically we pay for their rent, most of their utilities, their food which seems to be mostly ships and soda and hot dogs, and the mothers and 35 yo daughters cigarettes. Ufortunately this is not an isolated entitlement case. This is the majority. Generational wlefare. And they feel they are deserving to have everything handed to them
