Repeal the Patriot Act. Any law that makes it easier for government o come in to my home, is not patriotic, it is bad law. It is as if the 4th amendment does not matter to either party.

I'll agree with you on this one. Big mistake in october 2001.

CBS News did a lot to get Obama elected and to diss a supposely unprepared Palin who had experience as a Mayor and Governor dealing with Big Oil. I wonder if CBS NEWS has any regrets?

OK. I am from the right here are some of MY ideas:

Iraq: Get out soon. I was wounded there on January 29, 2005. It is time for the Iraqis to take this gift of democracy we have given them and see what hey can do with it - pass or fail.

Afghanistan: Drop tactical nukes (not the big ones) on top of and in to the caves in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan. This will render them uninhabitable for hundreds of years. Obama has hamstrung the US Military in Afghanistan the way Johnson and the micromanaging Democrat congress did during Vietnam. Fight to win it, which means adopting the U.S. Grant style of warfare, or get out.

The Spill: Where to begin. Bush was faster and more competent addressing Katrina than Obama has been in his first real test as President. Nonetheless, Waive the 1920 law which keeps foreigners from entering gulf waters so they can clean it up and stop cow-towing to the unions. Fire the EPA director who would not take measures to build barriers between the oil and the shores citing a need for an Environmental Impact Study." The oil spill is enough of an impact. This individual should also be fired for stalling on the cleanup by ships that filter the contaminated water and return it 99.5% clean. The EPA let oil contaminated water continue to linger demanding technology that returned it at 100%, which is not doable. A principle of Patton's - a 70% solution now is better than a 100% solution in a month - seems appropriate. Firing these incompetent political bureaucrats will send a message that in the future, Obama and his staff will be decisive, bold, and aggressive. Leadership by committee does not work - a camel is a horse designed by a committee.

Energy: Every President, even my favorites, talk about energy independence and then they go bow figuratively and literally to the Saudis. Drill everywhere ? Alaska, the Rockies, the Appalachians, etc. Go nuclear. The technology is there. Pass tort reform that makes it hard for enviro-nazis to stop us from building refineries, nuclear plants, and drilling. Solar and all the stuff ought to be developed, but do you really think you can power New York City or Los Angeles with windmills and solar panels?

Race: No progress will be made until Blacks admit we have made progress and stop pretending it is 1956 and whites admit we still have work to do. The quickest way to solve this issue is to create more private sector employment so black males between age 18 and 65 can work, create businesses of their own, and provide jobs. Until you fix schools in ghettos and bring discipline to the classroom, even if it means a police officer or two teachers in some classrooms ? one for teaching and for discipline, you will not solve any race issues with the black community. They must be educated to compete in the work force. See my education blurb below.

Healthcare. Repeal Obamacare. Start over with a blank piece of paper. Why not Healthcare stamps? If you have a government program, make it truly voluntary with no financial punishment/consequences to employers or employees who opt for the private sector. It is unconstitutional to force Americans to buy a commercial product anyway, so all this arguing may be moot.

Economics: Repeal the 16th amendment. Eliminate the federal income tax. Replace it with a 10% national sales tax, capped by constitutional amendment. Everyone will pay taxes. Rich people will pay more because they buy more. Poor people will pay less because they buy less. Even drug dealers will pay taxes. Revenues will triple in less than five years, the economy will boom. Eliminate all inheritance tax so families can keep their farms. That money has already been taxed. Remember when Jackie Kennedy died and the Kennedys had to sell JFK's rocking chair and other items to cover inheritance taxes? That is insane. The Kennedys certainly paid enough taxes over the years. Eliminate all capital gains taxes. The only federal tax, should be the sales tax, period.
Use the bully pulpit, Mr. President, to encourage Americans to pay off their loans on cars, houses, and credit cards and go to a cash economy. If just one third of Americans were debt free, the economy would rebound as that cash went to the market place instead of to what amounts to legal loan sharking.

You sir have a lot to say that is valid. I agree with most of what you say and wish someone in government believed this. However; remember we have been in Germany and Japan since WWII. We went in and totally destroyed their inferstructure (which means not just physical BUT policital and ideolical) and have been there since rebuilding and as a presence. In Iraq we did not do a total destruction of their inferstructure and will most likely be there for many years while we teach them what standing up for themselves is about.

Finally, I wish to thank you for your service to this country and hope you make a total recovery.

I'm more on the left side of the spectrum but I agree with about 90% of what you said. For some problems there are not liberal or conservative, Democratic or Republican, solutions. There are common sense solutions. Many of those you have listed fall under the category of common sense. Have to disagree on repealing health care reform, but only because the whole system is backwards and corrupt. Until the system is totally rebuilt (which will probably never happen), reforms like these are unfortunate necessities. But overall, kudos for making sense in a world, and especially a federal government, that increasingly fails to do so. I believe Obama himself is a common sense guy and I hope that ultimately prevails in the end.

These poll questions demonstrate a lack of understanding of cause-effect relationships and betray an astounding lack of knowledge about economic matters and how all of these problems are interrelated. Look at the question about the economy at the bottom of Page 1. It's like asking which is worse: drought, low crop yields, or being hungry? If producers were not worried about the debt they will eventually be asked to pay for, they would actually be hiring people, lowering unemployment and keeping jobs here, and more people would be able to pay their mortgages. We all know that Obama is a malignant tumor on the economy, but what's shocking about this poll is how utterly dumb the questions are.

We need to get really serious about economy again - It's insane that our auto fleet economy has been pretty much flat to declining since the 80s - it's a lack of patriotism among the righties who happily support Arabic terrorism every time they fill their duallies 50 gallon tanks - but we can't sell many of our Hummers to the Chinese or the EU because oil companies aren't on welfare over there and so gas cost alot more. We need serious incentives and a national will to get more efficient - cash for clunkers was a decent start, the Tesla loan was great also - we should also have serious incentives for the new Chevy Volt - we should strongly support this project as it is actually a product GM can sell to the EU, China, even Japan that is a big leap forward in automobile technologyn - finally the US is producing a state of the art vehicle again and the Righties want to kill it because they want the President to look bad and they want to punish the Unions.

We need to get nuclear plants going again - President Obama is doing that. We need to make sure that drilling is done safely, with multiple relief wells in place for deep sea drilling. We need to make sure BP pays to clean up their mess, our President has been the first to secure significant clean up funds from an oil company, that is a great success. We also need to make sure the Coast Gaurd is ready to respond to the next leak - they need ships, people, training, and equipment they have never had before to do this, of course.

We have long needed to get make health care universal and affordable - single payer would have been much better for small business - entrepreneurs could start businesses (like they do in other civilized countries and Hiwaii) without fear of losing their insurance, they could hire employees without fear of having to pay for it, etc. What we got from health care reform is better than what we had, though not ideal, it spreads the cost more evenly and stops the most egregious abuses of the insurors like pre-existing conditions, age discrimination, and exhorbiant costs for the self employed (who were often shafted by insurance companies if they did get sick).

There is a lot to left to do, but President Obama has done a great deal more for this country in his 18months than W did in his 8years, though he's made about as many people mad about it...

These are just some of the solutions the Democratic Party and the President are trying to implement to solve America's current and future problems - the Republicans just come in with a universal No - their big plan is to take over the Congress so they can block every solution - they do have a few solutions they thought of all on their own:

Surrender to the Taleban and give up trying to bring Al Qaeda to justice for 9/11.
Apologize to BP for letting our beaches get sand all over their oil
Give some tax cuts to the rich so they can spend it on buying foreign goods (seriously Repubs on this very board saying they won't buy American cars because they are made by Union workers) -meanwhile sell the parks, drill on the beaches, strip mine every last inch of American soil, break the Unions, and let the unemployed have camp outs on the streets
Cause the American economy to totally crash so they can garner short term political gain.
Drill every last remaining drop of American oil in the next few years with no plan for alternatives and then stand around looking surprised and wondering why the free market didn't magically put some more oil in their dry holes while they slept
Meanwhile they'll probably start a few more wars so when a democrat gets elected again they can blame him or her for them.

At least buy a Volt instead of a Beemer and don't try to crash America's future because you hate American workers and you want the President to look bad...

Thank the greedy Unions and Execs for destroying the Auto Industry. Plan on subsidising GM for as long as it survives, It is in the hands of the Union now, no way it can make it without taxpayer bailouts. They are guarenteed the standard Union failures, but who will they blame? Start looking for the "Auto Manufacturers Reform Bill", it will require you buy a Union built Automobile every other year or pay a penalty. NO WARRANTEES.

Get your information from someone other than Rush, Glen Beck and tent preachers and you MAY begin to understand. Until then, you remain ignorant and manipulated by those who make a living running America into the ground.

He was also the first President to make a major corporation pay to clean up a mess it made - in the past corps (including BP) have paid a pittance of the damage they caused, while President Obama is making sure that BP pays for it's mess. The Righties would handle the situation by apologizing to BP for letting our beaches get in the way of their oil, and then bending over and saying "drill baaaaaby drill!".
