Lohan to Get Powerful Drugs in Jail?

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  Actress Lindsay Lohan is enjoying her last few days as a free woman.

On July 20, she must surrender in a Beverly Hills courtroom and be hauled off to jail to start her 90-day sentence for violating her probation.

What will life be like for Lohan in jail?

As an inmate at the Century Regional Detention Facility near Los Angeles, CBS News correspondent Ben Tracy reports, life will be very different for the starlet.

Melanie Bromley, West Coast bureau chief of Us Weekly, told CBS News, "This is going to be a huge transition for Lindsay Lohan. She's used to living a very free lifestyle doing what she wants to do -- now she'll be in solitary confinement."

Lohan, Tracy said, will spend a majority of her time in a jail cell. She'll spend all but about one hour of her day there.

Lohan won't have a cell phone, computer, or cigarettes. The jail is smoke-free.

Also, the only drugs she can take are those prescribed by a doctor. But her probation report lists five powerful medications currently prescribed to Lohan, including Adderall, Dilaudid and Zoloft.

Tracy noted Lohan won't be getting the star treatment in jail, but her celebrity does buy her one thing: her own jail cell. Authorities say it's for her safety and the other inmates.

An inmate who was just released from the same jail says the notoriously social actress won't enjoy the peace and quiet.

Daniela Aguilar, a former jail inmate, told CBS News, "She's probably going to go crazy in there. It's going to be hard for her cause she's not going to have no one to talk to."

Lohan will be locked up the same jail where Paris Hilton was held in 2007 for a probation violation. Lohan herself was behind bars here for 84 minutes that same year after she was arrested for drunk driving and cocaine possession -- the crimes that started her legal mess that's lasted for nearly three years.

Lohan cried Tuesday as she pleaded with the judge for mercy. It didn't work.

Judge Marsha Revel told Lohan, "You're someone who cheats and doesn't think it's cheating until they're caught."

Yet while Lohan was sentenced to 90 days in jail and then rehab, thanks to overcrowding, authorities say, she is likely to serve just about three weeks.

Every time one of these yahoo celebs get pinched with prescription narcotics, a ripple of fear goes through the medical world and people with legitimate need for narcotics find their Drs reluctant to help. If they do help, they make the patient fill out questionnaires and sign papers holding the Drs not responsible for any issue arising from the use of said drug. Idiot celebs are a waste of space and breath! This tarty woman-child is looking haggard and is wasting all the best years of her potential career. Hollywood has already moved past her, and she's no Robert Downey Jr. or Drew Barrymore.

Why does a young person need powerful narcotics for pain meds? I'm "old" and I've got legitimate pain and the over the counter stuff works fine, such as naproxyn or ibuprofen. It makes me mad when I hear that all these kids are on drugs that are usually reserved for severe traumatic injuries, post surgery or dying cancer patients. I don't see any reason for it, I even find it hard to believe that dental work would require it. And the problem is, if they take narcotics for minor little pains when they're young, it's nearly impossible for old druggies to get any pain relief when they're old (and need it), because their nervous system is so wrecked by abuse that nothing works anymore. I've had old addicts tell me that: they PAY for it when they're older, and it's a heavy price. Why doesn't anybody warn the kids about THAT. There can be lifelong damage from drug abuse. I've seen it happen to friends of mine.

What doctor in their right mind would prescribe Dilaudid for her "dental" pain???? I can see the Zoloft, and maybe the Adderal, but Dilaudid?? That should be a very short course prescription if needed at all. She has enough money to get whatever dental issue that is supposedly causing her pain corrected. She will have a very difficult time kicking that drug and it needs to be done under medical supervision. Jail would be a good place to do it.

In NORMAL jails/prisons, these prescriptions wouldn't be allowed. Too expensive. I'm sure her mom or whoever will be permitted to bring in her refills. Kinda like when Phil Spector was allowed to be drive like over 100 miles to go to HIS dentist. Unshackled at that. And he's in for murder. I know a person who was in prison with a toothache and she was made to wait 2 or 3 weeks for the dentist. It was killing her and she was given Tylenol. I've had toothaches and Tylenol absolutely doesn't cut it. But, that's what the normal person gets in prison. Anyway, this same person was on a couple prescriptions (not narcotic) and the jail promptly began giving her diffent prescriptions of their own choosing. Said hers were too expensive. I don't think that's right at all. If a normal doctor (one on the up and up) gives you something he says you need, then you need it. They have no business "substituting" them with something else. BUT, that's what they do. And try getting medical attention. You'll play hell getting it. Under any circumstance.

Why shouldn't she get powerful drugs in jail, she gets powerful drugs outside of jail - give her all she wants and then a little more so we can pay attention to real news.

I'll wager that if I was convicted of the same thing Lohan was, I wouldn't be getting out in three weeks because of overcrowding. She's getting special treatment because of her money and fame, and there is no denying it. This won't teach her a thing. Just like Paris Hilton.

These escapades by spoiled rich celebrities are becoming tiresome...It is occurring so often that they should no longer be newsworthy.
