McChrystal Relieved of Duty over Comments

A senior administration official tells The Associated Press that President Barack Obama has accepted Gen. Stanley McChrystal's resignation as the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan over blistering remarks about administration officials in an interview.

After an Oval Office showdown with McChrystal in the morning, Obama huddled with a bigger group of war advisers and then planned to announce his decision on the general's fate to the nation. The official spoke only on condition of anonymity, because the president's announcement was not yet public. Obama was speaking at 1:30 p.m. EDT in the Rose Garden about the controversy.

Obama is naming Gen. David Petreaus, who now oversees in the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq as head of U.S. Central Command, as McChrystal's successor, the source said.

Always hate to read stories such as this...not because of the content of the story, but because of "accepted the resignation of...". lolll..means "with full retirement benefits and perks".

Now a non-commissioned officer who got caught badmouthing his or her commander in a national media source getting out with full retirement and perks...

President Barack Obama is so awesome. Right on!!!! "Wimpy" President Obama just fired a smart$ss general!!!! I am pretty suspicious of this general, as the Afghan's including Karazi's shady 1/2 brother stuck up for him - why???? There are so many in the news media that criticize President Barack Obama no matter what he does. But he was raised in a tough situation by a dynamite mother so he is tougher than nails. I bet people would criticize him if he let a bg f$rt right into the microphone!! Yeah, they would!!

Any nation that allows its military leaders to mouth off and act superior over elected officials is in danger. I didn't care for George Bush, but I wouldn't have wanted a loose cannon like McChrystal to dis him publicly either. Our military is the best in the world because we have a solid chain of command. The General evidently forgot that. Obama did the right thing.

Obama doesn't "dither" decisions that involve challenges to his ego. McChrystal's sin - - "telling it like it is".
