Starbucks Expanding Free Wi-Fi at Most Shops

Starbucks Corp. says it will begin offering unlimited free Wi-Fi at all of its company-operated U.S. locations next month.

The free wireless Internet will be available on July 1 at about 6,700 locations.

The coffee house had previously offered two free hours of Web access each day to registered customers. Now, access won't require a Starbucks loyalty card.

After that, consumers at the Seattle chain were charged a small fee.

The announcement was made Monday by CEO Howard Schultz who was speaking at a conference in New York.

Let's see. Starbucks items are way overpriced. And their service is notoriously slow whether one is standing in line inside a store or waiting in a drive thru. And as it stands now, people frequently hog the tables, outlets and bandwidth when using the wifi. It's bound to get worse with wifi being free and unlimited going forward. Forget it Starbucks. It's more convenient to make coffee at home and it much more economical too. I'm not one of those who needs to be seen at a Starbucks or carrying one of their drink cups. Sadly it seems many folks act like doing so equates to some sort of a status symbol or somehow defines their worth or rank in society. Besides, the coffee at McDs is better tasting, more economical and the service is faster. No thanks Starbucks. And there are better places with wifi than McDs or Starbucks.
