Chrysler Recalls 600K Cars for Bevy of Problems

By
CBSNews
(CBS)  Chrysler is recalling nearly 600,000 vehicles, including five models in the U.S., over a series of concerns: doors that could catch fire, possibly faulty brakes and sticky accelerator pedals, according to a Reuters report.

The automaker informed the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the problems last week, agency reports show.

Among the models involved:

Up to 284,831 Chrysler Town and Country minivans and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans from 2008 and 2009, which could have problems in their electrical systems that could cause the vans' sliding doors to short circuit and catch fire, according to the report.

Up to 288,968 Chrysler Jeep Wranglers from 2007 to 2010 that might have brake fluid leaks that could lead to brake failure.

Last Friday, up to 25,336 Dodge Caliber and Jeep Compass vehicles from 2007 were recalled due to potential problems with sticky accelerator pedals.

Chrylser will notify owners of affected vehicles this month and provide repairs at no charge, according to the report.

as I have been saying for a while I expect the President to take the same measures to punish Chrysler as he took with toyota. If he does not I believe that would be illegal in some way, since he was responsible for the govt' takeover of Chrysler. You cannot take over a compnay and give them preferential treatment.
I hope all of you contact your representitives and demand that they seek the same actions as were taken with toyota. Even though those actions would shut Chrysler forever (toyota was profitable, chrysler is not) it is only fair.

Maybe they should check into the Chargers as well. Michigan State Police are using these vehicles for slick top units and have had fires in them that was not related to after market electrical installations.

As I have previously suggested.....there doesn't seem to be any car maker, making a safe and reliable vehicle any more.

Not to mention, my recalled Grand Caravan, had the brake linings wear out at 28100 miles, and the brake drums required replacement, as well, because "the metal is too thin to turn down". Really instills confidence....you know?

There have already been several quiet replacements of other "problems" as well.

This coupled with high vehicle cost, says the consumer is getting a really bad deal.......while the car maker unions are getting excessive hourly rates and benefits for workers.

There needs to be major change in the car industry.

It sounds like the problems in your vehicle and in the latest recall are due to poor design or inferior parts. The union workers putting them together don't have control over that. If they are given junk to assemble, assemble junk they will. Don't blame then and their hourly wage and benefits. Someone else is making the wrong decisions.

I had my own issues with a Ford Windstar's transmission and head gasket. Someone decided to use an aluminum pin in the transmission instead of steel. It failed and cost me $1500. Head gasket had to be replaced twice. I vowed never to buy Ford again.

So I am curious where are the front page news stories and flamboyant videos ala Toyota. A vehicle with sticky gas pedals, faulty brakes and considered a fire hazard coming off the line is just as dangerous a one that has a sticky gas pedal.
