McDonald's Recalls 12M Toxic "Shrek" Glasses
McDonald's is recalling 12 million drinking glasses it is selling to promote the new "Shrek" movie because painted designs on the cheap collectibles contain the toxic metal cadmium.
The fast food chain said early Friday that it wants customers to stop using the 16-ounce glasses, which have been sold for about $2 each and were available in four designs depicting the main characters from the animated movie.
Cadmium is a known carcinogen that research shows also can cause bone softening and severe kidney problems.
In the case of the Shrek glasses, the concern would be long-term exposure to low levels of cadmium, which could leach from the paint onto a child's hand, then enter the body if the child puts that unwashed hand to his or her mouth.

Am I to understand that these glasses are safe or not?
Am I to understand that they were made in the US?
I blamed the Chinese for this incident, now I damand accountablity in our own government, as CPSC should be clear about this.
However I still have the same regard for my feelings about foreign products made in China.
We must move to protectionism and forward with tariffs.
We must enact laws against Chinese industry.
We must enact laws against Chinese meddeling with our internet.
We must enact laws against Chinese finance.
IF WE WANT OUR COUNTRY BACK, THEN WE MUST ACT AND ACT NOW.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND? WE MUST ACT NOW.
IF OUR PRESIDENT DOES NOT AGREE, THROW HIM OUT FOR ONE THAT WILL ACT FOR THE BETTERMENT OF OUR PEOPLES.
IN FAIRNESS TO OUR PRESIDENT, HIS PROBLEMS ARE DOUBLED BY POLITICAL HIJACKING OF CONGRESS. DEMAND OUR CONGRESS TO UNITE AND STOP THE BICKERING.
IF CONGRESSMAN ARE CORRUPTED, ITS UP TO YOUR LOCAL DISTRICTS TO DO THE SAME.
IF BUSINESSMEN DO NOT AGREE, TARIFF LAWS MUST BE ENACTED TO PROTECT OUR NATION FROM ENEMIES BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.
I DEMAND IT.
IT HAS BEEN LONG IN HAPPENING, I'VE BEEN WARNING PEOPLE THAT PRODUCTS MADE OVERSEAS HAVE NO SAFETY CONCERNS AT ALL.
THIS IS A RESULT OF BOTH GOVERNMENTS BEING CORRUPTED.
IN THE U.S., OUR CONSUMER PROTECTIONS HAVE BEEN DIMINISHED BECAUSE OF SOME DREAM THAT INDUSTRY CAN POLICE ITSELF.
CHINA COULD CARE LESS.
WE MUST START TO PROTECT OURSELVES AS OUR GOVERNMENT WILL NOT.
BOYCOTT ALL CHINESE PRODUCTS POSSIBLE.
EACH STATE MUST MAKE THE DECISION TO MOVE AWAY FROM CHEAPER FOREIGN GOODS AND START TO REBUILD OUR ABILITIES TO MANUFACTURE GOODS AND PROVIDE QUALITY BACK IN OUR LIVES.
I AM FED UP OF THE C.R.A.P. WE HAVE BEEN SPOON-FED FROM ASIA.
THEN SO BE IT.
TRUST NO CHINESE UNLESS HE IS USA BORN.
CHINA IS WINNING WW III WITHOUT EVER FIRING A SHOT~~~~
Yes, this could very well be true. Who knows how long they have been poisoning the food and putting toxic stuff into products? Some things are now being pulled from the shelves, but even at that, not everything is being tested.
We know that years ago toxic stuff was used, even by our own countries. So you have to know that China was doing it way back when too. But they are still doing it. Just think, they could have been deliberately poisoning us from way back when. Maybe that is why we have so much cancer, and other diseases, like Kidney disease. When you gradually are poisoning people, it goes undetected. You get people getting sick, but no one would suspect them. They could be biding their time and then one day just take over. : )
People might think that silly, but there is one fact that can't be denied. China wants to be the most powerful nation in the world. The United States is standing in the way of that. And with the way things are going with the U.S., they probably don't have much further to go before they reach their goal.
Hello!! The company is named "International". Their offices are only located in NJ but it doesn't mean they make anything in NJ. My bet is they are a brokerage for an over seas manufacturer.
Hello!! It doesn't really matter. The fact is that the U.S. does make stuff with lead and who knows what other toxins, in it. It isn't just China. Canada has banned lead, but like I said in my other post, there are probably people crossing the border into the U.S. to get paints and glazes that do, because of the brighter colors. And because they are getting if from your country, I'm quite sure that it is in a lot of YOUR products.
A: They were all out of lead paint.

Hey, I'm just going by the quote from the company's Vice President I've copied below. Who do you think I'm going to believe, you or him?
"The company that makes the drinking glasses said it only learned of the problem late Thursday and will look into it. Tom Reed, vice president of human resources at Arc International's plant in Millville, N.J., said the company received a copy of a McDonald's memo on the recall but has not heard anything else."

Fair enough.
Nowadays it is nearly impossible to enter any retailer without seeing some listing of recalled items.

Arc International only has 1 to 4 employees according to Manta. I highly doubt these glasses were made in New Jersey.
Why not? My 2 daughters worked for a woman who made ceramic products. They were her only two employees. She did a great business. She had customers all over the world. And guess where she got her glazes from? The United States. Why? Because you guys have such nice BRIGHT colors. : ) Of course they were brighter because they had lead in them. It's banned here, so she used to travel across the border to get them.
They didn't work there much longer after I found out that bit of information.
