Van der Sloot Arrest "Not Enough" for Holloways

Joran van der Sloot is now on his way back to Peru to face charges in the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores.

Investigators say Flores was found on Sunday by a hotel maid face-down, her neck broken, in a hotel room registered under van der Sloot's name.

Five years ago, 18-year-old Natalee Holloway went missing on the island of Aruba and van der Sloot was the chief suspect in that case, as well. He was never formally charged in Holloway's death.

On "The Early Show" Friday, Natalee's stepfather, "Jug" Twitty and Carol Standifer, a close friend of Natalee's mother, Beth Twitty, discussed Flores' murder.

Twitty said he hopes Flores' investigation in Peru is conducted better than Natalee's in Aruba was.

Twitty said, "We could have had the answers in the first couple of days down there had they done their job right. And this should have never happened what's happened in Peru. And I actually lay blame on the one person in particular, that's the (police commissioner, Jan van der Straten), in charge at that time. Because he knew what happened. And it just happened to be political connections and friendship that kind of let Joran slip off the hook."

As for the Holloway family, Standifer said Beth Holloway is "overwhelmed" now at the news of Flores' death.

"She's just really very disturbed," Standifer said, adding, "Every Memorial Day weekend, it's hard for her and it's hard for all of us who went through this because it brings it back, and we remember what happened."

Could the arrest and possible prosecution of van der Sloot be enough for the Holloways?

Twitty told "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez, "It's a start. It's not enough. I think what Beth has worked so hard for, and will continue to work hard for, is to find out what happened to Natalee. And to find if it there are remains from Natalee. That's what we want."

Rodriguez pointed out the FBI is also charging van der Sloot with extortion after he allegedly accepted $250,000 to reveal the location of Natalee's body -- the information he provided turned out to be false, authorities say.

Standifer said she's not surprised by these charges, nor about any of the other news she's heard about van der Sloot.

She said, "There's nothing that could happen that would be shocking because we've had such unusual events happen throughout the last five years."

I question how the Holloways hand of justice is so far reaching. This is not a slam dunk case. People should question if this was your son or daughter would the FBI give up 25,000.00. No they would not. Who to say that their private investigators did not kill this girl when he went to the store. I believe Natalies family would do anything to get justice. The Peruvians are probably a just people but they probably used means of tourture too. the bottom line prisones of war have not gotten this preferential treatment by the goverment and this husband and wife have been from Aruba, talking bad about the goverment when her daughter failed to stay with her friends in a forieghn country. When does some of the responsibility of safety lie with the person. They have cost the tourist industry in that country millions of dollars thats food of the table of children. I'm saying is this one girl worth the life of thousands and if so why, because her family is powerful.

I'll consider having empathy for Mrs Van Der Sloot on two conditions:

#1 - she comes forth with EVERYTHING she knows. Her husband (at the least) helped convince their child that it was better to hide all evidence of a crime than to stand up and face the consequences. She obviously went along with this. Their power and wealth could have served him better seeing that he got the help he needed while serving time. And if she doesn't personally know where Natalee's body is and what REALLY happened, she certainly knows who does. Both parents are accomplices to murder, albeit after the fact. Only one is now (hopefully)answering for that, and I don't see why she should get a free pass on her own possibly criminal actions. What else has she been involved in covering up? There are two more sons - what are their patterns of behavior? Was Joran the only 'bad boy' in this family? If she wants any respect or sympathy from the rest of the world, she can start with full disclosure of what she knows.

#2 - The Holloway and Flores families deserve public apologies, most especially Natalee's mother. From what little coverage I've seen, she has been nasty and vicious to a woman who was suffering because of the actions of her son (or lack thereof if you want to believe his first bs story of leaving her unconcious). If she couldn't be sympathetic and gentle toward Beth, the least she could have done would have been to keep her fat mouth shut. Now another young life is snuffed out and another family destroyed because she covered for a monster when it was her duty as a mother to get him help long ago. Don't think for one minute he hasn't displayed his potential for violence within his own home over the last 22 years. His call for 'assistance' 5 years ago was most likely shocking, but probably not all that surprising. I imagine it was the sound of the "other shoe dropping" that she had been dreading for many years.

If old lady Van Der Snoot climbs off her high horse and does those things (not that I'm holding my breath, mind you), then I might have a prayer for her soul. Until then, I'll be praying that you learn a little something about priorities.

The reason Joran is a sociopath is because of mommy and daddy. How do you think bullies are made? It's these ******* parents who continually lket there kids get away with everything and constantly say, "Oh not myt Johnny, he would never". This kid had a terrible reputation long before he murdered Natalie, because mommy and daddy looked the other way and bailed him out. They created a monster. The murder of Miss Flores goes to show just how bold and cocky he is. He's been getting away with everything for so long in his mind he was invincible. I absolutely agree that she is guilty of murder after the fact and should be prosecuted as well.

Well, the time has come for this guy to pay for all his offenses to society. He has chosen the right place to be arrested and now he will be enjoying the many "good" things of a peruvian jail, including "daily massage" sesions by other inmates, which are really delighted to give special treatment to women killers. Chances are really scarces that this fellow will ever come alive from such a wonderful place. And this is exactly what he deserves.

How sick this young man must be. A very young teen at the time of Holloway's murder. I do so hope his "judicial father" has seen the light. This young man is evil. Had his father not blocked and plead with Arubian authorities 5 years ago, relative to Natalie Holloway's murder, this Peruvian woman would be alive today.
I pray this man is convicted and never sees the light of day again.
May these two young women rest in peace.

My heart goes out to the families of both victims. There's a lesson to be learned here. Laws were created by societies. I'll admit, it's easier to follow Ten, then not knowing was is and isn't legal. I'll see you in hell, van der Sloot. I am going to make it nice and hot for you...Eternally!

People, Let us not rush to judgment. Is it not possible, as many in Aruba still maintain, that Joran Van Der Sloot is a two-time victim of circumstance, and a good kid with bad luck following him like wet toilet paper stuck to his (bloody) flip-flops? What if the whole thing in Peru was another terrible accident involving a date rape drug and a game of Twister in his hotel room gone horribly wrong? What if it was someone else who did it, like O.J., or maybe those Surinamese Kalpoe brothers, or even the Jonas Brothers? Who has even bothered to ask their whereabouts on the day in question? These are things that typically only defense attorneys think of while they are busy counting their money, but every citizen should in fact consider. I for one dont trust conjoint twins from countries I cannot find on the map. Plus, you have to give this guy credit for his entrepreneurial creativity. He is somebody who is always trying to get people (and journalists) to part with their money and, possibly, to get people into body parts. Let's aspire to be more like the Aruban authorities and their system of government which goes by the inspiring motto: If you dont catch us in the act, it 'aint no fact!
