Sarah Ferguson is finding the United States very inviting despite the scandal engulfing her in her native Britain, reports CBS News Correspondent Elaine Quijano.

Getting caught on hidden camera in England telling a newspaper reporter posing as a businessman she wanted $700,000 in exchange for access to her ex-husband, Prince Andrew, "may have cemented her sordid reputation overseas, but the attention may have helped her here," Quijano says.

In fact, she adds, "The Duchess of York might as well be known as the Duchess of New York" as she makes a round of well-received public appearances after the scandal that "all but destroyed her reputation in the U.K."

"Fergie" continued her tour of New York Wednesday, promoting her latest children's books in seemingly good spirits, Quijano observed, "alluding to her latest scandal casually. And comically."

She quipped during a speech, "It was quite difficult for me to get to the Javits Center (for an appearance at the Book Expo there). (There were) one or two people in the way!"

Fergie says scandals of the past - specifically, when she was snapped topless in 1991, getting her toes sucked by her then financial adviser -- taught her something: When you feel bad about yourself, do something for someone else.

She says her work for others is for kids, and for literacy. "I'm a children's book author. I'm Sarah Ferguson. I'm a mom. And I'm very, very proud of that."

But, Quijano points out, if you listen to friends, she'll have plenty of opportunities beyond book-writing.

"She's shocked with the generosity and support in New York," says Popeater.com's Rob Shuter. "Not only has she been flooded with well-wishes, she's been flooded with job opportunities."

Industry insiders tell CBS News Ferguson is courting a number of lucrative offers in the U.S. -- including some from TV reality shows, prompting speculation she may move here.

And CBS News contributor and longtime royals-watcher Neil Sean says Fergie's more popular in the U.S. than the U.K. "In America," Sean says, "I believe they'll just reembrace her, and I think she'll become bigger than ever. You're lucky to have her, actually!"

You know this tells a lot about what the effects of capitalism has done to us. We have abandoned all morality and what we know to be right just so we can keep our greed satisfied. This woman is a outright hypocrite, but she has "draw" and that's all that matters to today's Americans. What a sorry society we have become; all the more sorry because we use "money" as the sole worth by which we gauge people. No wonder our government and churches and even our belief in ourselves are crumbling all around us. If we don't change, we will change our world into a place that has no future.

I do not wish her ill but giving her a job and treating her like royalty (no pun intended)!
Hey New York, there are many, many Americans far more worthy of that work and pay.

American "culture" worships backstabber, grafters and thieves as long as they portray an air of sophistication whilst committing their crimes. Just don't get caught stealing a loaf of bread, if you are hungry; no quarter will be given.

Fergie will always have a job available at Wall Street.

I wish she'd GO BACK to the United Kingdom! And, the sooner, the better!
America has enough "SCAMMERS" in it, we don't need any more, and we don't need her, either!

craig9 where have you been. What country are you living in? A cable network is about to give Elliot Spitzer a job, one of Tiger Woods' got a job on one of those nighttime entertainment shows and the Salahi's are going to be on a reality show and media keeps interviewing them like they are heroes yet they break security rules and regulations knowingly to sleaze their way in to the White House.

We're living in America and loving every bit of it. We lay down at this level and we become this level. Period.

She will be co-hosting 'The View' sometime soon. We are a low end society with an appetite for this type of person and that will never change as long as media keeps promoting and hiring these people.

The problem with Sarah Ferguson is, she cannot manage money - ANY MONEY -period! I live in the UK and she lives far and wide beyond her means. She agreed to ?15,000 per year from Andrew, which isn't much, but she lives in the same home with Andrew, even though they have been divorces for 14 years so there's no expense there. She gets paid well for speaking, etc. etc. I cannot feel sorry for someone who tosses money around so foolishly.

She would have been better off writing a book and publishing it in New York than trying to pull off a money scandal.
