Palin: Obama Would Ban Guns if he Could

(AP)  Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said during a speech Friday that President Barack Obama and his Democratic allies would ban guns and ammunition if they could get away with it.

The former Alaska governor said in a speech to the National Rifle Association that political backlash is the only thing stopping Obama from gutting the Constitution's right to bear arms. Palin said the public needs to stop Democrats in their tracks, starting with the November elections.

Palin praised the anti-tax tea party movement as a grassroots effort "to get government back on our side." She left the event to travel to South Carolina for a campaign rally with a Republican candidate for governor who is popular with tea party activists.

Addressing an anti-abortion group, the potential 2012 presidential candidate said she understood how some women might consider abortion, citing her own experiences as the mother of a child with Down syndrome and the parent of an unwed teen mother. Last year, Palin said that "for a fleeting moment" she considered having an abortion when she learned of her son Trig's prognosis.

Palin said Friday that abortion is morally wrong and women should carry a fetus to term.

"It may not be the easiest path, but it's always the right path," she said.

Palin used a speech to the Susan B. Anthony List to remind activists why they rallied behind the Republican ticket and why they should work to stop Obama's agenda.

She said Obama is "the most pro-abortion president ever to occupy the White House" and asserted that the historic health care reform law would fund abortions.

In fact, Obama's health care law would not allow federal dollars to pay for elective abortions. Roman Catholic hospitals and organizations of Catholic nuns backed the measure. U.S. Catholic bishops and major anti-abortion groups opposed it, arguing that federal dollars could end up paying for abortions.

Palin challenged Republican women - "mama grizzlies," she called them - to help the Republicans "take this country back" and elect anti-abortion lawmakers. A grizzlie is a bear. She praised female leaders of the tea party movement and invoked her 2008 acceptance speech where she compared herself to a pit bull.

"You don't want to mess with moms who are rising up," Palin said. "If you thought pit bulls were tough, you don't want to mess with mama grizzlies."

Tea party activists believe that government spending and influence should be limited. The movement's name is taken from the Boston Tea Party, a 1773 protest in which activists in the then-British colonies in America boarded ships and threw their cargo of English tea into Boston Harbor in a symbolic act of protest against taxes.

Like the old joke on the liberal lion Kennedy. Ted Kennedy killed more people with his car than I did with my gun.

When you go from a job that pays 100 thousand, to one that pays 10 million dollars, I would hardly call that "quitting"......unless you are a jealous ignorant libtard, that guzzles hater-aid* like it's going out of style....I won't mention who

Regardless of how much money she made, to the Alaskans who elected her, she still "quit". And the sad part about it is that she didn't leave office to advance to a higher one, she did it for the money, period.

Notably sad and unfortunate perspective, Admiral Empire.

Guns don't kill people, they just make it real easy. Let's let people bring them to ball games.

I can't go to work today, the voices told me to stay home and clean the guns. Let's continue to let people buy guns at shows with no background checks.

An armed society is a polite society. Let's let our 12 year old bring guns to 6th grade.

With this administration, all you have to ask yourself is what would Hugo Chavez do? Disarm the population of course...

Any nation does have to have a certain number of laws to have an ordered society... You're never going to let kids bring guns to school... I would expect such a comment from the likes of someone like you though noloyalisti...

Do you really think, that with as many guns as there are in this nation, that you can just get rid of them all? If you had the motivation and big enough majorities in congress, you might be able to get most of the guns from law abiding citizens but never from the criminals... If you don't already live in fear where you are now, you will then...

It's kind of like Chicago's mayor praising his city's gun ban on the same day that one of his policemen was shot to death... Studies show that if only the criminals have guns, crime increases. This is what gun control laws do, take away guns from law abiding citizens and make the population helpless...

More gun deaths in the U.S. each year (for over twenty years now) than in the next 23 largest industrialized nations combined.

The difference: The majority of these countries have strictly enforced gun laws.

Is there some reason you fail to mention Knife Crime and murders ? in the UK knife crime is way up. but hey, keep targeting inanimate objects and maybe you might find a criminal mixed in there.....bad news for your point...criminal don't stop commiting crime because they don't have a gun, sharpened objects do just fine....they laugh at your ignorance and naivete'

What a ludicrous response. Less than 100 murders in all of the United Kingdom last year. The same is true for the 25 largest industrialized nations in the world. I live in an affluent town of 75,000 people and there were more people murdered here in 2009 than in all of France, Japan, Germany, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and dozens of other countries more progressive than our own.

My ignorance and naivete? I recently completed a book about the history of guns for a major publisher. It's fair to say that I have some knowledge of the material.

Part of the message of romantic violence is that if a powerless person
gets a gun, that gun can make him feel powerful. This is not a
message we need to teach with weapons that easily kill and maim.

I'm sure she would... At least if that would take us back to a time when the country had a few more morals... Where sex was commonly reserved for the sanctity of marriage... Where pregnancy, was seen as blessing. Not something to be taken care of in a doctor's office... A time when a person worked hard for a living but was still able to support the family... Now instead of supporting the family, we support the government who gives away our money as entitlements...

The moral times seem to indeed be gone now though... In it's place is a drug and entitlement addicted society... Crime is rampant and a liberal's idea of solving it is to take away or restrict the ability of the few honest citizens to protect themselves...

Too bad Obama can't ban "stupid". Then we'd never have to hear from Palin again....

Between 1979 and 2009, gun violence killed more than 120,000 children
and teenagers in the United States. Every year since the 1970s, more children and teenagers have died from gun violence than from cancer, pneumonia, flu, asthma, AIDS, and all other natural causes combined.

The rate of firearm deaths among kids under age fifteen is twelve
times higher in the United States than in the other twenty-five
largest developed countries combined. American kids are sixteen times
more likely to be murdered with a gun, eleven times more likely to
commit suicide with a gun, and nine times more likely to die from a
firearm accident than children are in the other twenty-five biggest
industrialized countries combined. Every single hour, two American
kids are killed by guns. Every day, nearly 100 Americans die from gun
violence. Nearly 13,000 people are murdered with guns every year in
the United States. (Compare that number with these from nations with
strict gun control laws: Canada, 150; England, 50; Australia, 50;
Japan, 19.)

For more than 100 years the use of guns has been romantically
presented in movies. For longer than fifty years gun violence has
been glorified on television shows. For almost thirty years the same
has been true for the way gun violence has been depicted in video
games. During this same period of time, guns have come to be abused
in increasingly casual ways.

I know, right.....having no constitutional rights, and no way to protect yourselves except calling the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, is so great isn't it ? having no rights is wonderful, right daffy ?

the RCMP will be there in that remote Nenavut village to protect you from that polar bear....so glad you are Canadian, ignorance is bliss, isn't it ?

I'm sure Sarah... Did he say that? I didn't think so. Obama wouldn't do anything that would infringe upon our constitutional rights. Otherwise, if we thought this would happen..I'm sure that he wouldn't have been elected. Simple as that.

You must live in a different world is all I can say... Obama's biggest impediment is our constitution... He's trying to dimantle our rights under the constitution... Despite what you may think, Obama and the left are not in favor of our second ammendment...

Unbelievable times... My constitution says that the United States shall protect every state against invasion... Not only is Obama not protecting us against an invasion from Mexico, but he's helping them do it!

The closer you look at this administration the worse it is... The left hated Bush. While I'm not really a big fan of his, I certainly didn't think he deserved what he got from them... Obama, on the other hand, is so bad, it's hard to believe the whole country is not crying for impeachment!!! You still see the media just preaching the party line and what they're told though.
