Children's OTC Cold, Allergy Meds Recalled

More than 40 over-the-counter infant's and children's liquid medications are being recalled in the United States and 11 other countries because they don't meet quality standards.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued the recall for children's versions of Tylenol, Tylenol Plus, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl after consulting with the Food and Drug Administration.

The company is recalling the products because some did not meet required quality standards, the company said in a statement Friday.

Some of the products recalled may have a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified on the bottle.

Others may contain particles, while still others may contain inactive ingredients that do not meet internal testing requirements.

The company is advising consumers to stop giving the products to their children as a precautionary measure. The recall was not undertaken because of any adverse effects, the company said.

The problem is with cutting corners beyond the point where quality is affected.

Where's the rest of the story? Breakdown of quality control in several areas? How did that happen? For how long?

There have been many stories on here about the fact that these medicines don't work, and that parents are over dosing kids on them, because they don't read the directions, or they are just too stupid.

There has been no adverse effects. There is a problem with them because of a higher ingredient, and that is reason enough to pull them from the shelves. BUT, I think the real problem is that they are afraid with parents already over dosing their kids, it could cause some serious damage, or death.

usaoutsider, I can see why you picked your name. You sound very unintelligent and an outsider. If I say I don't want to buy Chinese junk, that doesn't make me a racist. It says I don't like Chinese products. Try educating yourself before making a fool out of yourself like you just did.

erasmus111, you're right, just like we could call you one too. Yawn. Let's not mention the fact that the products could be killing and maiming our children; why would that be important.

"The recall was not undertaken because of any adverse effects, the company said."

I guess we can classify you as one of the idiots. You obviously didn't read the article.

And it isn't the medications that are killing and maiming our children, it's their stupid parents over dosing them on them!

I actually didn't come to the conclusion that you were an idiot from this comment, it was all your others. : )

America is a very racist country, but I don't know that I would be calling him a racist for that comment. It's only natural to assume that it could have come from China because most things in the U.S. do come from China. And also, most things that come from China are toxic. That's just the facts.

But you could call him an idiot.
